Topic: GTA 6 Leak

Twitter is full of apparent GTA 6 leaks - they are looking like the real deal but most people forgetting it’s so early on in development.

Do you think they are real?

Sure Push Square will publish something about it soon.

@itsfoz They also leaked source code, which is really stupid as that could now potentially cause internal delays.

I know the the general consensus that it is cool to see leaks, but when someone is hacking to steal source code, that doesn't sit right with me.

@JohnnyShoulder Publishing source code is bad enough but I hope that doesn't mean it was a ransomware attack that could paralyse development for a while.
Either way, it sucks for developers that these things seem to become more and more common lately.

@Voltan Yeah, I’m not happy about the way gamers are celebrating this. They’ll be quick enough to complain when delays happen because of it. This is entirely unfair judgment of an unfinished game. Wish people would just be patient.

@nessisonett @Voltan I don't totally understand why some people find joy in this kind of thing and trying to make excuses for this kind of behavior.

The gaming industry recently has been far too reliant on reporting leaks as actual news. Not something I agree with. Especially as it then could lead to the developers getting harassed.

@JohnnyShoulder It’s the fact that anybody’s dunking on a clearly unfinished game that gets me. You might as well get annoyed at a solitary meatball for not being an entire spaghetti bolognese.

@nessisonett I'm the total opposite to games and much prefer to know as little as possible for the games I'm interested in. Take the latest state of Play for example, I skipped the God of War stuff as I've already seen enough. The 2018 game there was loads which I wish I had not seen previously in trailers and stuff. I quite like the 'wow' factor in these things, and with the way trailers are presented these days, that seems to have gone out the window.

@JohnnyShoulder It was Pokémon which ruined the hype process for me. I basically knew every single Pokémon before the ones on the 3DS came out so any discovery for myself was gone. It was actually quite refreshing not being able to Google for help in Blasphemous this week. I do miss being surprised by games.

Apparently the hacker wants to sell some of the acquired data (GTA V source code, GTA 6 documents)... which I hope leads to them getting caught very soon (I'm not betting on it though)

Voltan

nessisonett

@Voltan That’s a sure fire way to go from being done for simple unauthorised access of confidential data to being absolutely annihilated by Rockstar’s lawyers for attempting to extort money for it.

@nomither6 Such a childish take. For starters, nobody is under any obligation to make sequels. GTA V could have been the last one in the series and that would be that, series continue until they don’t. It’s not been 10 years since the game entered development, it’s been 10 years since the last multi-year development finished on GTA V, and exclusively the single-player while development continues to this day on GTA Online. We’ve had Red Dead Redemption 2 as well in the meantime, yet another massive project that spanned multiple years.

We’ve all read the reports about crunch in Rockstar’s studios, which combined with the fact Rockstar make incredibly large and detailed games, means a prolonged development time is necessary without treating workers like cattle. Even with sweatshop levels of overworked staff, the game would still take several years to develop due to the scale. Gamers are incredibly entitled, no other industry has to justify the production process in this way. The game will come out when it’s ready. Leaks set that back. They benefit nobody. Rockstar aren’t a single entity, they’re a collection of individual workers on differing salaries whose livelihoods rely on games like GTA VI being completed to a reasonable standard. It’s entirely possible to have the slightest bit of empathy for the many workers whose lives and careers were impacted by this leak, especially when times are this tough for everybody.

@JohnnyShoulder @nessisonett I've got to agree with you guys, this type of stuff is only going to have negative impacts on the industry as a whole.

And in terms of gamers/customers thinking screw developers why do people have this type of self entitlement? I understand that we have come to expect certain products and quality from developers but the way that some of the community acts is honestly pathetic. They are the same people that will absolutely cry when Cyberpunk 2077 happens. There is enough games out there to allow all developers to plod along how they like and take as long as they like. Am I happy with how some developers have worked over the last 5 to 10 years no, money making and greed has crept to the for front of gaming like it does with any money making industry but this type of behaviour and attitude by people in the community is not going to make things better.

I now prefer to know as little as possible about games even to the point i don't even care about release dates until their almost set in stone, and I also don't see the point in whinging at developers about how long a game is taking or how much their messing up with development or other issues when I'd rather a game just be released when it's ready, like I said earlier it's not like there's nothing to play in the mean time.

JohnnyShoulder

@MaulTsir 100% agree mate.

Wow, the hacker is apparently a 16 year old kid from the UK. Not even old enough to legally buy the previous games in this country lol.
