Hi all. Need a bit of advice. I have pre ordered the PS5 pro and thought it was also worth looking at upgrading my TV. I currently have a 58" 4k LED TV. I was looking at 2 options. Philips PML9009 55" or Panasonic MZ800B 55". Both are priced the same. Panasonic is OLED and the Phillips is Mini-LED but also has VRR up to 144hz. Thoughts?
I second rtings. They're Canadian, so some TV models may differ slightly depending on your region, but I find them to be very impartial and they breakdown the strengths and weaknesses of TVs very well. Their comparison tool is good, too. ππ»
@obiwan3001 if you're in the UK, wait for black Friday, which is right around PS5 Pro release, and check out Richer Sounds to scope some out beforehand to make sure you're getting a good deal. Richer Sounds will price match anything up to a few weeks after, as well, so it's the best place to get a TV.
I'd recommend OLED, but it depends on your budget, but again, your budget will stretch further on Black Friday anyway.
I have an LG OLED and Philips OLED. And I like them both, the LG has better response times, the Philips looks better overall. So it depends what type of games you play to decide what would be best feature wise.
If you list the kind of games you play, budget and what other uses the TV has in your set up I'm sure me and others will be able to recommend a few tvs.
Also, you can email your local Richer Sounds and give them a few details of what you are looking for and they will give you great advice too based on what they have available π
@obiwan3001 in that case I'd go with whatever tv you think has the best picture quality along with the hdmi 2.1 features. To me, I much prefer OLED screens now, but it might be worth seeing some demos to decide between OLED and Mini LED for your own tastes.
Otherwise it's the same advice, wait for black Friday and get a TV that is currently slightly above your budget for the same price as the ones you are looking at now.
When it seems you're out of luck.

@Ravix If you decide on an LG OLED (recommended) then go for last year's model if there are any still available. This year's only have very minor, incremental upgrades and will cost you significantly more.
@LN78 wrong tag. OP is looking for the TV. I have an LG and Philips hooked up to PS5's and both are LG panel OLED's anyway π but I agree OLED is definitely the choice for my own personal tastes and recommendations.
In my case the Philips actually looks better, but the LG is a wee bit more responsive in game mode if that helps anyone on deciding what matters more to them.

@Ravix I can't really comment on the game mode performance of the Philips but in filmmaker mode the LG (I've got last year's 77") looked better in side by side tests (to my eye at least) during 4K blu-ray playback which was definitely my main priority.

Both of those TVs are solid choices, but Iβd probably go with the Panasonic MZ800B. OLED just hits different when it comes to deep blacks and vibrant colors, especially for movies and shows. If youβre big on gaming, the Philips with 144Hz VRR could be a better pick, but for pure cinematic experience, OLED is hard to beat. Either way, once you get your new TV, youβll definitely want to test it out with some good content. There are plenty of streaming options online, like https://ww25.soap2day.day/ , where you can find tons of movies and shows to see what your new screen can really do.
