I was quite intrigued by the Oddworld and Harry Potter trailers from yesterday.
That said, I reckon it'll be at least a year before I get the console. I still have plenty to play from this gen, particularly as FF7R is the only game I've picked up at launch in the last 18 months.
It's also weird that I'd almost certainly get the disc based console but haven't bought a game on disc in about 18 months (partly because of the disc eject issue but, linked to above, also because I've only bought things in PSN sales).
3 Launch games isn't bad - better than 2 (Killzone and Knack) I guess but only if you want to play those 3 games. Personally, the only one I have any interest in playing is Spider-Man. Sackboy or Demon Souls do not appeal at all. Arguably, I don't need to upgrade at all - just yet because I could play Spider-Man on my PS4 Pro... LOL
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@BAMozzy I think it's 4 exclusives from SIE (Destruction Allstars as well), as well as a few more from third parties, games like Godfall etc. but yeah, if you aren't interested in any of them you can probably give the PS5 launch a pass.
I'm honestly cool with cross gen games and don't get what the hubbub is about considering it's nice to have the option there for those who aren't compelled by what the PS5 exclusively has to it as of yet
The main reason people are whining, is the games would look graphically better and perform better if they were truly made exclusively for PS5/PC/next gen.
Having to also release on PS4 means the games had to be "dumbed down" so the PS4 could play them.
@KidBoruto I’d say it’s less about graphics and more about scope. You can always make a potato version if you put the effort in by cutting down on key drains in performance. However, accounting for the lack of SSD means that Miles can’t swing as fast on the PS4 version, and they’re unlikely to make him faster in the PS5 version. Setpieces that take advantage of the PS5’s extra heft to provide lots going on at once also won’t be able to be ported down without major sacrifices, meaning they’re likely to be changed completely. It just ties the devs hands a bit.
@KidBoruto
To be clear I completely agree. I'm disappointed too and I want all incoming games to be only on next gen even from 3rd party. Best to move forward in game design.
However I tried to explain, in a maybe unclear way, that it's only a few cross gen and there are many games coming only for next gen.
Some people are overreacting (even those who supposedly wanted games to available for everyone in the first place or supposedly are against all form of exclusivity).
Again it's not like ALL games are cross gen now. I've read comments who believe that's what it is.
Edit
Like let's not pretend cross gen games dont happen every new generation.
I've seen people complain Sackboy is cross gen too but LBP3 was cross gen too.
The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
@Kidfried
I think people get emotional and that is what I dont understand. Preference is fine. I prefer when games are next gen only. It has also to do with focusing on one console and the advantage of exclusivity I see in optimizations and development time etc.
However there is no need to make up some drama. Some games are cross gen, some games are next gen. Its the usual for a new gen. It's fine.

@Kidfried I think the main problem is the lack of communication, or rather, the hypocrisy. They said they believed in hard generation, a cut-off point. None of the games shown in the presentation and the June presentation have made it clear they were coming to PS4. And now suddenly they are, and it was revealed via the PS Blog. Almost as if they didn't want us to know about it.
Guerilla Games, for example, said there were several features they wanted to implement in Horizon Zero Dawn, but couldn't because of the (weak) PS4 hardware. It would be a shame if that's still the case because Forbidden West also has to run on the base PS4. So how about that? No word.
You can't use the DualShock 4 on PS5 because PS5 games require the DualSense and all its features. Like, okay, fine. But Miles Morales (and Horizon 2) are now playable on PS4 with a DS4, but once you upgrade to PS5 it suddenly becomes impossible. Those games can clearly be played with a DS4, any cross-gen game can for that matter. So why not allow the DS4 on PS5 for those who don't care about the extra bells and whistles? Microsoft does it, and it would greatly benefit those with disabilities who have custom PS4 controllers.
And it's good for those who just bought a PS4, but what about those buying a PS5? Do you need one right now? Will God of War 2 be on PS4? Can you just stick with PS4 for the time being? It's just all very vague, and there are no clear answers. Add in the pre-order mess, the confusing messaging about Demon's Souls. The whole presentation felt kinda rushed IMO, as if they had to react to Microsoft, but wanted the pre-orders to happen before MS. I don't know what's happening at Sony HQ, but they need to step up their communication.
@Octane
It just depends on the version you play. I think you can play the ps4 version on the PS5 and use the DS4.
However the PS5 version used the DualSense for the bow adaptive triggers and all that sort of enhancement. It makes sense?

Yeah I think the biggest "problem" is that PlayStation's message was very much about making games for the next generation now. Many PS fans went in on Microsoft's approach with Halo and the like and for it to now turn out that actually Sony are seemingly going down the same route is a bit of a backstep.
It also conflicts with a lot of what they were saying about how the speed of PS5 means games are now being developed purely for that. Now we have to wonder how the open world of Horizon Forbidden West might've been designed completely differently if it was purely for the new hardware, and is it perhaps held back by limitations of a 7 year old system?
@roe
They are not doing the same thing as Ms though.
It is true that there are next gen games on PS5 even from day one.
Horizon is a weird one but it is fine to have some cross gen games. Ms didnt want any next gen games for the first 2 years. Different.

Yeah I think Sony could have been more transparent with what games are comin out on both systems and not play the 'generations' game. People are right to feel peeved off, but it has been blown up like everything these days it seems. I am disappointed by it, but I'm still buying a console on day 1. Or at least trying to.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@roe
Yes. I dont think its 1st party though . That's what it's about. (Medium is also only timed and coming on ps5 I think)
To be clear. Yes Sony was misleading and they should have clearly said which games are cross gen..
I hope for GOW2 reveal they will clearly say ONLY ON PS5

Pre-Order sealed yesterday with Amazon UK for a PS5 Digital Edition, was in my office at work frantically refreshing at ten past 9 for the bloody thing aha!
Very happy with the Digital proposition, I know it restricts me to the PS Store but as someone who's library is already 100% digital it won't bother me too much, and I have a sneaky prediciton that digital games could become the slightly cheaper out of the two this generation, with Sony needing to justify the Digital Edition being a thing.
Either way the price hike doesn't bother me too much as of now, I have a steady job and only buy a few games a month in terms of new releases so I can live with departing with an extra £15-20 for games.
Going to buy Cyberpunk 2077, Miles Morales, FIFA 21 and a Pulse 3D to go alongside my set up this November!
@KidBoruto I think this is a unique case because if anything the games were designed specifically with next-gen in mind but can also be played on last gen systems for those who want that option. It reminds of what they did with Twilight Princess releasing on both GameCube and Wii in a lot of ways
Like yeah Miles Morales and Horizon are going to be on PS4, but they'll probably have none of the enhancements that the current gen version offers like the near-instant load times in Demon's Souls or ray-tracing and support for stuff like individual performance modes at higher resolutions. Those games give me the impression that they're MEANT to be played on PS5 for a more whole experience, but the option is there for those who aren't ready to upgrade yet.
@DonJorginho
Nice one.
It was stressing because the Amazon link to the console was busted and didnt work for a good while. Then I managed to order and it's only a few minutes before it was all over.
