There's something about the Demon's Souls HUD that just kinda makes it look mediocre next to the PS3 original or other Souls games, but I can't quite put my finger on it
@BAMozzy Thanks for sharing! The fact that the games I decided not buy because my PS4 is struggling work great on PS5 makes it look better than it probably is!
Interesting about the lack of VRR and ALLM, hopefully won't be too long till they add the support.
What's interesting is that comment from MS about series X being the only next gen console that has the full features set of RDNA 2, also make me think to AMD launch presentation where they repeatedly mentioned how they been working closely with MS on the development of the chips, direct storage was mentioned a few times.
@InvaderJim It’s definitely strange, I’m glad I’m waiting to buy a PS5 to be honest. Feels like there’s loads that Sony will probably patch in but as it stands, there’s a worrying amount that the PS5 just seems to lack or not quite land. I’d never buy an Xbox but looking from an outside perspective, I do think the choice will be harder to make for your average person on the street.
@InvaderJim Having the full features of RDNA 2.0 doesn't mean that Sony hasn't opted for their own proprietary version. We obviously haven't heard that the PS5 supports VRS, Mesh Shading etc - part of the RDNA 2.0 feature set and whilst we know, the PS5 won't support DXR, DX Machine Learning, Direct Storage or Sampler Feedback as those are also part of the Microsoft Direct X12 suite, we don't yet know what Sony themselves implemented. Some features are not important on a console, you don't need the full desktop suite of features so it saves space on the APU to remove those or even replace them with some other custom option.
MS were much later with their APU design as they were waiting for RDNA2.0 but we also know Sony were working with AMD too. Maybe they have something that gives them some advantage bespoke to the console format. You have to remember that MS will want their Console to align well with the PC and to use the same API as PC's because they want their games to run on multiple hardware. Xbox isn't just the console and so may need to align more with PC's where as Sony can be a bit more free to build a custom piece of hardware with their own bespoke feature set.
Sony's Geometry engine maybe bespoke (not RDNA2.0) for example but offer an alternative to some of the RDNA2.0 features and by opting to go that route, its not 'entirely' RDNA2.0 because its got some custom bespoke silicon - not necessarily 'worse' for it either and maybe better. Sony/MS don't go to AMD and pick a CPU and GPU off the shelf and ask AMD to merge the two into one - they will design a chip with a certain number of clusters, features etc to fit their design profile - opting to discard some features that are not needed and add others that they want too.
I still think it will be a few years before we see what these consoles can truly do when devs take full advantage of the features they offer. The vast majority I bet are designed around current feature sets and engines that don't fully work with all the new features.
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@InvaderJim@nessisonett The comments about “full RDNA2” are just marketting talk. Sony Doesn’t have full RDNA2 because the customized the chipset. I’ve read speculation that this is just because they were able to drop “dead weight” that Microsoft has to keep in order to keep compatibility with PC’s, because they want PC gaming to be just another way to access the xbox games library.
The power difference seems to be real, though, e.g. Valhalla needing upscaling on ps5 but not XSX allegedly.
TBH I have no idea what the last few posts meant in the main. And I don't really care that much in all honesty.
Most of the negative stuff over the last fews days makes for good headlines, but I don't think there is anything that I've found too alarming or that couldn't be fixed with a future firmware update.
I'm happy with what I've seen of the PS5 so far. Along as the system works, the games are good and they are both an improvement of what currently have then that is good enough for me.

The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.
