Oh well. I’ll probably just end up waiting until February or March of 2021 to get one. My Switch backlog is decently extensive to tide me over till then.
@DualWielding My only Day One ever was the PS3. I just walked into Best Buy when I was done with work that afternoon and bought one off the shelf. No preorder, no lines.
@PeterN80 I reaaally doubt that's the case. It's not like they are unprepared, they can't just wish these console into existence. Manufacturing takes time, and with the pandemic, it's only logical their options are limited. That being said, I believe they've made more consoles compared to the PS4 launch, so it just goes to show how much demand there is.
Didn't get PS5 preordered? Don't worry you're not missing much, plenty of games to keep you occupied til next year, its not all about graphics. It is the story and gameplay.
The Story may not change with next gen versions but the gameplay can and will. 60fps isn't 'just' about the visuals looking smoother - you watch movies at 24fps and don't tend to think the film looks bad - although they do tend to use filming techniques to get around that...
60fps is more about gameplay than visuals. The game is being updated 60 times a second, its checking your input on your controller more often and can start acting on your inputs sooner therefore the game feels more responsive with lower input lag, feels more fluid. That is a 'game-play' difference.
Improved loading times too improve the gameplay experience - not just about 'getting' into the game at the start, but all the 'pauses' that break up the flow - whether its waiting for the next level to load, waiting as you fast travel to a point, waiting to respawn etc. I am not talking about games that are 'next gen only' because you are missing out on what ever game-play and story they offer anyway so I am only talking about the games that you can play without needing to upgrade.
Visuals do enhance the experience and can impact on the story/gameplay. Seeing objects, textures etc pop in is a bit distracting. Playing competitive shooters that have ranged combat gives advantages to those with higher resolution screens (at the same screen size and distance) because you have more 'pixels' to render the details, to make out enemies easier that would otherwise be a bit more blurry and blend better with the more blurry background. Visuals are not necessarily the most important aspect, but they are important - and anyone who says otherwise are wrong. How important can vary but if there is technical issues with the visual quality, it does impact on the experience and if they are 'off', that does affect the immersion.
I doubt BC will have a big affect on Visual quality - some don't seem to notice too much when the resolution drops due to dynamic resolution scaling, but playing at a locked 30 or 60fps with the PS5 instead will make a big difference to the game-play. Some 'so say' 60fps games or game modes don't get close to 60fps and when you need that high frame rate the most, that's usually when its at its lowest!
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
I guess we all have our own different preferences, but I'm highly interested in a number of PS5 titles that should be out at or close to launch. And I'm not going to buy those games on the PS4 and get a lesser experience. And for me, there really aren't many other PS4 titles coming that I want. So I might end up replaying games I've completed for the next however many months until I can get my hands on a PS5.
