I really respect how much games cost to make since I’m in IT myself. I want to support good developers too....but the new price tag on ps5 games really doesn’t do it for me. In Canada the base price is $90, and no matter how much the games cost to make I can’t convince myself that they are worth that.
Ratchet and Clank is a good example of a game I really want to play, and my kids will probably play too.... but the price increase is probably the difference between me buying at/near launch and waiting for deep sale.
Now I’ve always been one to wait for sales, generally waiting for the $39.99 (CAD) price point before buying most games - but I would often splurge on something that either I’ve been waiting for or that I could justify based on kids playing.... but I keep seeing $90 and just can’t bring myself to pull the trigger.... and that sucks because I’ll be playing stuff like a year after release.
I do see alot more people going the used game route/sale route this gen due to the prices of current gen games. I know that alot of people want to get a game right at launch especially to avoid spoilers but with prices as they are, I don't think alot of people will go that route.

Atlus tried something similar on 3DS, where they'd start charging $49.99 for their major new releases. So I went from preordering all of their games to waiting for steep sales on their games. Eventually they went back to MSRP, and I started preordering again.
Atlus is literally my favorite third-party developer in the world, and that's how I treated their pricing antics, so it should come as no surprise when I say that I won't pay $69.99 for new home console games. Period. Any game that releases at that price goes to my "half-price list," where I'll refuse to buy the game until it hits half the MSRP.
Although I don't buy Sony games for more than $30 these days regardless, because most of their games crater in price before even a year has passed since release, so paying day one prices ends up being more of a sucker's tax than usual.

I generally end up paying for price I’m prepared to pay for a game. I’m prepared to pay £70 for ratchet and clank so I’ll probably end up playing that day one. I’m prepared to pay £40 for a returnul so I’ll probably end up paying that considerably after launch.
I don’t feel like game should be a certain price. It makes most sense for them to sell to everyone for the maximum price they are prepared to pay.
I rarely buy new games on launch, either wait til black Friday or sony has some deals in the store. I remember game prices in the nes days with them ranging from 30 to 90 usd but the system was cheaper in theory.
Haven't bought a single PS5 game, and I don't need to when the PS4 games are so cheap. I do wonder if Horizon 2 is going to be cheaper on PS4, or if it's also going to be €60.
I really don't mind spending €80 on God of War if it's as good as the first one. But for plenty of other games, like Returnal or Ratchet & Clank, I don't see myself paying 80 for it.
Developers need sales in the launch window of the game to stay afloat. Preorders are also critical. The 3DO and Jaguar also charged $69.95 for a game and we paid it gladly when the game launched.
If the game is great,, it’s worth the extra cost. It covers the added development costs that ninth generation consoles demand. Games need fans to stay afloat, especially now.
I myself like $100 dollar collector editions with all the cool stuff inside.
The PSVR is the best VR system on the market today.
There is not so much that I am hyped for this year except for Horizon FW and the next God of War, but those don't have set release dates yet so I find it hard to be excited for those. Everything else I can wait until I'm ready to play them before getting them. Nowt to about the prices just don't feel the need to get them on day one. Which is normal for me, last year was an anomaly for with so many games I was interested in.
I got Demon's Souls for 62 quid on day one, so games can be bought for a bit cheaper if you shop around. And with digital games you can use sites like shopto or cd keys to get cheaper PS store credit. All the games I bought last year I did not pay the full rrp for, and only Demon's Souls and Cyberpunk were the physical versions.

I’ve been looking at various retailers this morning, and I’ve noticed a lot have already dropped the price of Ratchet and Clank to £59.99 or less (Curry’s PC World are down to £54.99). Returnal has also been discounted various places, plus I’ve seen pre order prices of Far Cry 5, Hogwarts, GOTG, and Battlefield 2042 at around £59.99.
Do we think the £69.99 price point has failed and has now been abandoned?
Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?
@MrGawain Hopefully so. Games are something I’ll buy with disposable income. It’s not uncommon for me to write off even £50 if I’m pre-ordering or really looking forward to a game. But £70 is too much to be able to write off and I’d end up saving across a few months to afford one game. £55 I’d be relatively happy with.
