Thanks for the tips, guys! I'm definitely going to keep at it. If I keep throwing myself against the wall, I'll break through at some point :') Even when I'm not doing well, I'm having fun with it. The game is gorgeous, and I love sci-fi, so I'm all in. I will definitely be ignoring the purple items, I made the mistake of picking one up already, and I also made the mistake of avenging a fallen scout. It did Not go well lmao. Live and learn!
@scpnightwing good to hear you're enjoying it. I'm also bad at those type of games normally and wouldn't have bought the game myself, but now I can basically try it for free on Ps plus im also going to try it. That's why I like to read these kind of comments from people who aren't that good in these type if games but still enjoy it. Gives me hope I might like it as well.
@scpnightwing The thread for Returnal might help you too. It’s too big of a beast to read through but lots of people were on the verge of quitting the game but pushed on thanks to advice/support in there.
@scpnightwing Ahhh yes, I remember avenging my first 'fallen scout' and don't think I ever did it again afterwards!
Honestly, keep giving Returnal a chance...
For perspective, I'm mid-thirties with 2 kids and a demanding job. I managed to beat (and platinum) this game, after nearly 10+ years away from gaming in general. The pandemic pulled me back in to gaming, and Returnal was one of the first games I played. I began to love it so much that I grinded out the platinum trophy purely because I didn't want the experience to end!!
Weapon choice plays a huge part as well, as some weapons are grossly OP vs some of the more inferior options. For instance, the Shotgun is generally quite appalling. But I found the greatest success with the Hollowseeker (rapid machine gun, great unlocks/traits) but also the Electro-pylon driver (allows you to set up pylons that cane enemies, whilst you hide in the distance ha).
I'd be more than happy to co-op if this takes your fancy, any excuse to play Returnal.
Good luck man! Just wait until you beat the first boss, this is when the addiction kicks in
@CJD87@Thrillho Ah yeah those were the days, back when we were playing the game for the first time and finding all these things out. I'd love to be able to experience that all over again so @scpnightwing count yourself very lucky that you don't know too much yet 😉
@render Do you remember the stress of playing pre-patch? (ie no 'suspend run' feature?)
I was leaving my PS5 in suspend mode overnight, having nightmares about automatic patch uploads that would force-close my existing Returnal run lol! So stressful
@CJD87 Those were interesting times. I tried never to leave it in suspend mode but I probably did once or twice. I struggled to get up to speed once I'd started off again so it didn't work out to well for me 😂
Those drones though, they were brutal! Having heard that they'd been nurfed it was interesting to get that confirmed the other night when playing co-op with @Kairu. They were no where near as numerous and didn't seem to hit anywhere near as hard as I remember them doing.
So far I've played and got the platinum on concrete genie (didn't have plus when it was 'free') and now playing I am dead. Both enjoyable.
Guardians, demon's souls or sniper elite next. For the £16 it cost me to upgrade for 6 months its proving a bargain.
Playing a lot of WRC10 lately. Enjoy a bit of rallying and getting the latest one is nice, has a 120fps mode as well surprisingly but I just settled on the 'balanced' 60fps one. Career would be going better if Skoda would stop overlooking all my wins and draft me in for that sweet Fabia.
Nothing yet, but I did install Syphon Filter with the intention to play it next weekend maybe.
Update: I platinumed Syphon Filter last weekend. Short game but was fun/challenging, until I decided to turn on the cheats to rush thru to the end.
I added some random PS4 and PS5 games to my library thanks to PS+ premium, been trying to play thru Demon's Souls but still stuck at the beginning after the prologue.
Lawn Mower Simulator...I mean...why is this game not number one on the downloads chart. It's like a Driving/Puzzle game where you have to create the most efficient track on the fly. Amazing!
Also SpiderMan Mile Morales - Lots of fun but just more of the original. South Park Stick of Truth - also fun and very "South Parky", A retro-themed racer called Hotshot Racing that is interesting.
Just downloaded Shenmue III and I am not sure what to think yet. The localization and voice acting is so terrible I think it might be a feature. Have not experienced any "game-play" to speak of yet but the dubbing was so distracting I had to shut it off. Why is there no option for the original Japanese audio?
I am looking forward to next week with Stray like many others. This was going to be a day one purchase for me but now I get it for FREEEEE!!! {with paid sub}
I’m ashamed to say that the inclusion of Avengers into the Extra tier has me tempted to upgrade. I’ve been wanting to play the single player campaign but don’t want to drop $15 to buy it because I’m just not all that thrilled about the other live-service aspects. Still, I’ve got other games on the docket right now, so it might wait.

I just started Nights of Azure. Saw it was on Ps now in the past and didn't know if it would stay long so I decided to give that a go. Not far with it yet but it's an action type jrpg which I generally love.
@Th3solution I wouldn't upgrade for Avengers sp alone no unless you have only 1 month to go or something. Otherwise I would wait until there are more games you want to play then upgrade and play those games at the end of the subscription so you get the most for the least amount of money
@Lavalera Yeah, that’s a good strategy. I have a handful of games on Extra that I now want to try, but nothing immediately. Stray, Avengers, Last Stop, Deliver Us the Moon, FF7R DLC, Elder Scrolls Online, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Prey, Everybody’s Golf, GoT Iki Island DLC, etc. But nothing that I’m going to play right away so I’m waiting until I’m ready to play one of those, then I’ll upgrade.

Post Elden Ring, I downloaded a bunch of games from Extra including:(takes deep breath) Guardians of The Galaxy, Tetris Effect, SoulCalibur VI, Townsmen, Car Mechanic Simulator, THPS 1 + 2 and Curse of the Dead Gods. OK, the last two are from Essential.
