So I just received a friend request from a friends alt account on PSN. Long story short, his account got flagged on PSN Profiles and he had to create a new account. I get that everyone isn’t into trophy hunting etc but for those that are I’d imagine that like me I’d be a bit perturbed by having to start over. In fairness he seems pretty pragmatic about the situation but for context he had been chasing plats on old PS3 multiplayer titles for months. Something that takes a lot of time and effort to co-ordinate… and now all that effort has been for nought as his new account shows none of that.
So, back on point… what is the point of PSN Profiles? It just looks like leaderboards and guides and such, unless I’m missing something I wouldn’t be ditching a profile I’d put considerable hours into just because some website flagged it 🤷♂️.
@colonelkilgore I’m not signed up at PSN Profiles, but I’ve considered it several times. I don’t exactly understand the issue of why people are being banned. I guess it’s to do with the EULA and some breach and threat to security or something?
Either way, are people being perms-banned for it? It’s not just a temporary ban or a warning? If so, that does seem really excessive. All that work with trophies and also probably thousands of dollars invested in a digital game library, gone.
“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”
@Th3solution yeah, so I’m ‘considering’ joining up, post the chat with my mate, though the fact that I’m only really hearing that I should sign up off of the back of a friend essentially losing the account he has poured years into ‘concerns’ me.
As @JechtUltima mentions, I think the ‘flag’ was something to do with a hacked trophy but I don’t know the full story. He didn’t mention any prior ‘flagging’ but maybe there had previous. Personally I have no intention to hack anything (wouldn’t have a clue how to go about it even if I did) but the idea that someone can ‘end’ your account (rightly or potentially wrongly) gives me pause for thought.
@nomither6 ok so there’s a forum too… that could be useful actually. As a recently minted bonafide Trophy-Hunter I have come across a number of glitch/issues when attempting to earn platinum trophies, I’d imagine that the guys on PSN Profiles (a lot of which will have been trophy hunting far longer than me) would have experienced considerably more. A place to chat through the potential pitfalls and offer solutions sounds like the best reason I’ve heard yet to join the site.
@JechtUltima he was a little vague when I asked but he did say something about a hacker popping a now unobtainable trophy.
@JechtUltima yeah, I’m left a bit confused as starting from scratch will mean he’ll never be competitive now though… so why not continue with a profile that while may not be on the leaderboards still shows your journey? 🤷♂️
