I always keep my PS5 in rest mode.

Is this ok or not ?

@hypnotoad I would say no, just incase there is a power cut or something like that. I only leave it in rest mode if I'm downloading something overnight. Used to use it a lot more one PS4 if I was in the middle of a game and I'm coming back to it later that day. But don't feel the need to use it as much on PS5 as everything loads so quick.

Others may tell you differently and that is OK, but that is just my way of thinking towards it.

I hardly ever use it on PS5 but used it all the time on PS4. It's not like it's doing anything bad to the console unless your power goes out - and even then it shouldn't be a big deal.
I just don't really have a reason to use it - it takes 30s to be in a game from a cold boot, my downloads are fast and I always finish my runs in Returnal before going to sleep lol

@hypnotoad when ps5 first was released there were some specific problems around rest mode - quite rare. In particular Spider-Man: Miles Morales exposed this issue but it wasn’t the game AFAIK, it was OS. I believe also this was related to external drives being plugged into the USB slot. I haven’t seen an explicit patch or anything but I would say that (a) may as well disconnect any external drive before rest mode, (b) if it was a big issue it would be patched by now, and (c) ask @god_of_nowt if he’s still lurking here he seemed to have good info.

@hypnotoad Similar to other people, I used to utilize Rest Mode a lot during PS4, leaving it for days on end. Then once I left it in rest mode overnight and there was a power outage overnight which occurred apparently during the syncing process and it messed up things - the trophies in particular. My console worked, but I got some kind of weird error when trying to bring up my trophy list. It was all fixable by doing a hard reset and restore process, wiping my console clean and then staring over from scratch. I didn’t lose any save data or trophy data, thankfully everything was in the cloud from before. But the experience made me skittish about using Rest Mode for too long. I certainly always fully shut down if there is a storm in the forecast.
Tagging @Jimmer-jammer because we were just talking about this! 😂

I always leave my PS5 in rest mode. The only times I turn it off are if I hit that option by mistake or if I power cycle for an update. I've had zero issues, though I have never played Spider Man and I believe there were some issues with that game in particular at launch. The main advantage of rest mode is that you can leave a game exactly where you want, especially if it's a title in which saving anywhere is not possible.

One more kweschun for you experts...I've got an Nvidia Shield TV Pro Android box and I recently paired it with my Dualsense.
Since then, I've noticed that the DS doesn't glow when in rest mode.
Is this right ?

Apparently doing that is no good, but I leave mine in rest mode every single time I'm done and I've never had a problem with it.

@hypnotoad It only glows when it's charging - stops when it's full. If it's supposed to be charging at that moment and it's not, that's not exactly right...

@Voltan Thanks again Sir.
Thing is, I play for a couple of hours and then plug it into the ps5 and there's no glowing but it tells me it's on full charge.

@hypnotoad I think it doesn't start charging until it's depleted to some degree - and maybe if you're using it with the Android thingy without haptics and stuff, it just doesn't drain it much?
Not 100% sure but if it says it's full, you're probably ok.

@hypnotoad I use rest mode only for long updates. We live in an older house with some old wiring and if you start the dryer when the stove is on, it kills the PS4. Not the T.V or anything else, just the PS4 - even with a surge protector. Can’t figure it out but it is, as they say, what it is.

@Voltan Brilliant !
Once again, thanks mate, and to everyone helping this moron out.

Always turn mine off after use. What's the point in paying for electricity when it's sat there doing nothing all day even if its a tiny amount.

No I don't think this is right. This was happening to me the very few times I used rest mode and charging the controller. The controller actually wasn't charging. Try plugging the controller into another non ps5 option while it's turned off to see if the lights glow. I bet they do.

DORE

I leave it on rest mode overnight to charge the freaking battery since it seems to drain quite quickly but when I get up in the morning I turn it off before I go to work.

I would say rest mode isn't necessary for anyone who plays mostly offline/SP games anyway . Rest mode is really for people who play online often and put their systems on stand-by incase of any hard-drive-eating update the size of 3 PS3 games combined. I use rest mode because of the convenience nonetheless . its really convenient .
