@render Thanks for the encouragement! I'm working on improving my movement and grappling about during fights in biome 3, to be able to keep more distance and be less of a sitting duck. Not there yet, but I'm sure it'll click at some point. It was really piling on the drones and damaged automatons last night
@Voltan Hitting you up in the Returnal forum thread per your statement. I am definitely looking for some assistance on Scout Log 9, but also any tips on Biome 2 cyphers, because after countless runs i'm still missing like 6 there.
@Bri-Die Ok then - about the scout log. It is crazy rare indeed so instead of fully exploring the biome while killing everything in it (which would probably take 40-ish minutes per run), you should just focus on finding out if it's there or not.
Here's what you do:
Just run through the biome ignoring the enemies. If you're fast and dodge right, they won't hit you. Getting a few hits is not a big deal either.
Enter every side (triangle) door that's not locked. Importantly, there's often a side door inside the room that's the gateway to the Citadel - the room with the log seems to often spawn there so don't forget about it (that's where I found mine).
If you get into a lockdown, just restart cycle and try again.
This one I'm not 100% sure about but some say you can't have the room with a big chasm + an orb to shoot and the one with the scout log in the same run, so you might want to restart early if you see that one.
This way you can check all the rooms you need in like 2 minutes and immediately try again if it's not there. I even restarted the run anytime I woke up in the cockpit because it was faster than exiting Helios lol.
I found this to be very effective, once I started doing it, I found the log in just under 30 minutes.
As for ciphers in 2 - if you're missing 6, I'd stick with just doing full runs for now. Some say it's most likely to find rare ones if teleport to the summit and work your way down, the opposite way than you'd usually do. I don't think this is true but it might be that the rare ciphers are in the upper parts of the mountain so this way you'd find them earlier in the run.
Note: there's a cipher in the area with the summit portal that doesn't update the counter for most players (you still need to find it but you'll get the trophy at 19/20).
I used this video to identify the one I thought I might not have seen and it told me it was always the last room in the upper side of the mountain so going backwards from the top indeed helped me get it (it was the one marked as 16/20 in the video).
@Voltan Thank you so much! I will try out this method today and see if i can get lucky finally on Log 9. Especially like restarting the cycle if in the cockpit. Hadn't even considered that.
Also good tips on Biome 2, starting at the top and working my way down might be my approach considering the first section I've played dozens of times and keep getting the same rooms to spawn.
I really appreciate you taking the time to write all that up for me. I will let you know if I have success later using this method.
@Bri-Die No problem. The best part is that I still had a lot of fun while grinding for the trophies
Returnal is easily my favorite game of the year so far.
Is it just me that struggles to see the value in the astronaut figurine? Yes it brings you back from a kill but only with limited health and also chucks you right back into the danger. The large silphium vial is cheaper and refills more health..
I’ve been enjoying doing a few infected scout corpses. Got killed and then got a notification in the app later to say that someone had dispatched my corpse.
Yep, dead scouts galore this evening. Successfully avenged the first one I saw, but I've left them alone since then.
The game's piled LOADS of tough enemies on me this evening, or at least it felt like it. Enjoyed playing, but not great for any chance of making any progress
I'm with you @Voltan Returnal has become one of my favorite games of all time.
So question. Overgrown Ruins Survey, is there something after Act 3 or a Scout Log in the numbers beyond 10 that apply to it? I have all the ciphers, glyphs, visited every room type, completed the vault, got the sun fragment, and finally got what I thought was the missing scout log (number 9), but the Trophy didn't pop.
That felt like a very stressful run through the final biome. I picked up a malfunction that gave me 50% weapon power at full health which took ages to get rid of and the game threw a couple of horrible rooms at me.
A slightly underwhelming finish but I’m not too surprised. I think the ending to act 1 was the best/cleverest.
@nessisonett Biome 5 has some real mph tough enemies. The sentinels are pretty tough, the turrets fire annoying shots, and the droids are no pushover.
@JigsawPieces@Scratchy_Seal They are all over the place now, I must have done 3 or 4 tonight. Good fun though.
I’m inching towards getting all the cyphers. Still need 5 from the Crimson Wastes and 3 from the Citadel so that might take a few more goes through. Still enjoying the combat which is my problem as I get into it and end up clearing out every room in the joint 😆
@Kidfried You’re lucky that you haven’t been affected too badly by the bugs and crashes. Returnal would probably have been in contention for my GOTY but the crashes, runs bugging out, dodgy RNG, lack of advertised features and trophy issues actively impacted my enjoyment of the game. The only real issue I have with the game itself is in terms of the difficulty curve and a general lack of content. So it probably would have been an 8 in my eyes but I couldn’t really give it anything more than a 7 based on my time with it.
