Yousef-

Mainly making this to create discussions and ask questions about the PC port and how it’s treating people so far. I know @Ralizah plays on PC but idk if they’re getting this game. Not sure how expensive is it in America or UK, it’s 11 KD in Kuwait (35 usd, 27 British pound) so it’s not too expensive. Mainly curious how it runs on steam deck if anyone could answer that.

I could also check https://www.protondb.com/ for that kinda stuff.

Great site 👍, strongly recommend it for people troubleshooting stuff on their steam deck.

@Yousef- Based on what I've seen, it doesn't seem to officially support FSR3 atm on Deck, so things are looking a little rough. Still more playable than FFXVI and DD2, though.

It seems playable enough that some special attention via optimization patches should allow it to get to the point where it's reasonably enjoyable on Deck.

In a few months it should run better and be cheaper, so I'll wait for that.

@Ralizah thanks Mate, that’s a real shame. Yeah I heard about FF16 debacle. It’s not available in kuwait but I’m not a FF fan to begin with (trying to get into it with the pixel remasters though!).
What’s DD2?
Yeah proton will probably make it more playable. Not that I needed it for some ps5 games (rift apart ran flawlessly).
Tank you again.

As a side note devs need a “recommended settings for steam deck” feature.

I couldn't resist playing this after all.

Using FSR 3.0 as I can't stand playing PC games at lower framerates!

I was only able to play a bit, but the atmosphere is certainly on point so far. Interesting to hear the stilted original dialogue with modern voice acting.

@Ralizah Been hitting all the right notes for me thus far. Just about through Brookhaven. As has been said, they’ve done a remarkable job of modernizing the game without losing the essence of the original. I’ve really appreciated the more dynamic nature of Maria’s presence, adding narrative weight to her character in the moment to moment exploration.

I just finished the game earlier today and I think it's probably my favourite game out of all the recent survival horror remakes. It's just so well made.

@Bentleyma I have to agree with you. It’s been my favorite remake between RE4 and Dead Space. I’m going to be starting my NG+ run soon, and hopefully get the platinum trophy.

@colonelkilgore I just got to thinking, “I haven’t read anything from the colonel on his playthrough of this.” Still with it or did you have to put it on ice? My wife ended up noping out so I ended up playing the majority of it in darkness with headphones. It was glorious 😄

@Jimmer-jammer so me and the missus played a few hours a couple of Sundays back… we played it on her profile as I figured that might get her more engaged with it. She does struggle to get up the motivation to start a gaming session though as it isn’t something that she finds relaxing… she just finds gaming quite stressful for some reason. I do keep suggesting another sesh and to be fair she said she might be up for it tomorrow but I ain’t banking on it.

As far as the game goes, I was liking what I saw (while the missus was playing) and what I played (when the missus became a bit distracted). Even if we don’t return to it as a couple (which I hope isn’t the case) I look forward to immersing myself in it on my own profile at some point. Sounds like you had a great time with it which I’m glad about, knowing how highly you rated the original.

@colonelkilgore In fairness, it is a very plodding, oppressive and emotionally draining experience. As such, it doesn’t exactly leap off the screen. It is a challenging and robust work, which certainly requires the right kind of headspace to enjoy. Worth waiting for the right time. Here’s hoping things align for you two!

Yeah, Bloober Team absolutely nailed this remake. With some effort I could maybe nitpick a few things but I honestly have no real complaints. It’s so much more than just ‘new and shiny’ yet isn’t a complete reimagining either. It’s an intelligent, considered and respectful modern representation of a horror classic. The team pulled off something special here and entirely befitting of the source material. I’ll be singing their praises on this one for some time 😂

@Jimmer-jammer nice dude, it’s such a great feeling when something you love from your past is treated with the love, respect and creativity to reinvigorate it that it deserves.

The missus’ main issue was not the games fault tbh. She’s just so used to Skyrim and going ‘collecting’ (thieving 😉) that checking all those empty drawers just frustrated the hell out of her. I tried to explain the reasons for this but I don’t think it satiated her thirst for collecting worthless potatoes, apples and mutton 😅

@colonelkilgore That’s understandable. For what it’s worth, there is this 😂

@Jimmer-jammer it’s almost as if they put that in just for my missus at this point in her gaming journey 🤣
