I’ve played around 15 hours, and so far, I’d agree with the review here in that it’s the first game, but better. The only possible caveat I’ve seen so far is that planet hopping seems even less of a thing than in the first game. Instead, it seems a lot of your time is spent on a single, large planet, with a couple of others thrown in for good measure.
As for bugs/glitches, I’ve heard there’s a glitch that prevents a collectible from spawning, but that’s about it.
@Ernimus_Prime I’m playing Jedi survivor in performance mode on PS5. It seems to be in a similar condition to Jedi fallen order at launch.
The most noticeable bug I’ve come across the screen tearing. Every hour and a half or so, it’ll only update the bottom 2/3 of the screen.
If you like to Jedi fallen order and you were happy with it around lunch, then Jedi survivor should be a good experience for you. I’m really enjoying it.
@TheBrandedSwordsman I’ll move my detailed ramblings over here about the game. You know how I can drone and on. 😅 Sorry in advance if this is too much!
As far as Jedi Survivor difficulty, I’m playing on the default Jedi Knight (normal) mode and it’s not too hard, although there are larger difficulty swings and spikes than I recall in the first game. I’m one-shot killing a lot of common enemies and then will suddenly struggle sometimes with an encounter of more advanced enemies. I guess that can be typical of a Souls-like, but it’s a little more unbalanced than my memory of the first game’s difficulty. A couple of the bosses have been fine on the normal difficulty (you know - a good balanced fight where you struggle to kill them at first but after 3-4 tries you can get their move set down, learn their patterns and prevail with the typical Souls dopamine rush) but a couple of them have been super hard and after a bunch of deaths where I don’t even get close I’ll have to admit that once or twice I dropped the difficulty level to ‘padawan’ (easy) just to get through that boss. In each of those instances it was an optional boss though where I got exploring around and probably uncovered the boss earlier than the game probably designed for me to be there. Nevertheless on ‘padawan’ difficulty setting every encounter has been pretty breezy. So afterward I reset the slider back to ‘Jedi Knight’ for the common enemies and exploration. On top of that, there’s even a ‘story mode’ difficulty setting that’s akin to ‘very easy’ mode where you take hardly any damage at all during combat.
Also, there is a some gameplay modifier settings for accessibility which can make the game much easier too. One of those is a ‘slow mode’ that can either be set to automatically slow movements when any combat scenario initiates or it can be set so that you have the ability to initiate slow mode manually when you want. This ‘slow mode’ essentially makes the combat go much slower, kind of like a bullet mode (although not that slow) where it makes it much easier to react, parry, block, dodge, attack, etc. I tried it out on one of the harder bosses and it helped but for me it actually threw my timing off also, so it was just more effective to switch to ‘padawan’ for the encounter. (Of course, one could put the game difficulty setting on ‘story mode’ and also engage ‘slow mode’ at the same time and be virtually indestructible and impossible to lose 😅)
The approachability is probably more excessive than it needs to be, although there’s also ‘master Jedi’ and ‘grand master’ difficulties, but I haven’t messed with those. It is nice to have the options though, because the game is quite large and with so much content, I’d rather not be stuck on a boss or a tough group of enemies for hours and hours trying to clear it when there is so much of the game I want to cover in a limited amount of time. So I try everything on normal and then pull it down if I’m not seeing myself make quick progress with a fight.
As far as the platforming and exploration, yes it is slightly more complex this time around with a few more moves and such. But it’s not been too difficult. And actually, unlike the FromSoft games, in Jedi Survivor when you fall while trying to make of jump, or even if you fall off a cliff during a combat encounter, you don’t automatically die like you would in the Souls games. You immediately respawn into the spot you were and just take a small amount of health damage. It’s not even very much damage, so I’ll experiment a lot during exploration with jumps just to see if I can clear a gap, since I know if I can’t then it’s low risk and only a small health penalty. But yeah, there’s a grappling hook, wall runs, a double jump — and so there are a few sequences where you have to chain together a few sections and time them right in order to cross a gap. I think there might even be some accessibility settings for the platforming, one of which is disabling fall damage if you really want to make it easier.
Another aspect of the game that is easier than I remember from the first game is that the meditation points (the game’s version of bonfires) are pretty generous. So far there has always been one (or a shortcut to one) right next to every major encounter. So there’s almost no long journeys back to recapture your lost XP like in some of From’s games. I’ve lost my XP once or twice due to boss battles, but in both instances it was my own fault for not picking up the ‘bloodstain’ before I was killed again. Since your health bar is filled when you pick up it up I was trying to save it for when I needed health and I misjudged and died before I could get there. 😅
The game probably is easier for those who have played the first game because unlike most games, you’re not starting off as a weakling with no powers. You already have the double bladed lightsaber at the beginning, for example. And you already have force pushing and pulling and mind control early on.
The game is quite lovely in a lot of parts, with great environments and textures. There’s some good enemy variation, both humanoid subtypes and also various animal creatures.
There’s some technical hiccups even after a couple patches, but it’s not been egregious. I did get kicked out of the game a couple times already but it had saved progress. I think the performance mode is still not perfect; I’m playing in regular fidelity mode which is supposed to be more stable.
Overall, it’s really good and I’m sure if you enjoyed Fallen Order you’ll really like it. You need to get a PS5 first though!

@ThinkDonald In order to avoid de-railing the other thread, I’ll respond over here. But yeah, I really do like the game. I have some extended comments I wrote a couple months ago a few posts above. It’s depressing to see how long I’ve been playing the game since that post was June 14th and I’m still not completed it! 😅 But in my defense, I have taken some prolonged breaks from the game and from gaming in general over the last two months.
The only thing I’d add is that as I’ve moved through the game into the latter stages now, I have noticed more performance issues than I had before. I suspect it’s due to new enemies and new NPC’s populating older areas and so these larger open areas become more taxing on the hardware with all the new variables going on all at once. I don’t know. Regardless, the technical performance issues of the game are still overblown by most of the gaming media and fandom; it hasn’t been enough to detract from my enjoyment.
I’m still torn between whether I like this one better or Fallen Order. I would say Survivor is the better gameplay-wise, and Fallen Order has a better story.
