Topic: The 'Abandoned' Kojima Silent Hills game

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the potential for Blue Box's Abandoned actually being cover for the re-emergence of Kojima-San's (this one's for you @JohnnyShoulder 😉... but having done a little bit of research San can actually be used with either surnames or given names 🤣) 'abandoned' Silent Hills game.

The following info is courtesy of having watched MBG's steams on the subject the last couple of days. Obviously he knows nothing official and is just purely speculating being a huge Kojima fan but even in his exuberance he does raise some salient points

The gist of which is, Blue Box tweeted earlier this week regarding Abandoned = S__________L. They since tweeted to apologise and state there is no such connection to Silent Hills, which you would think would be the end of it. The thing is, there are actually quite a few things which could indicate that this is just one huge Kojima troll.

1. Kojima has used proxy (fake) development studios and fake game titles previously as cover for his work.

2. Apparently Blue Box was created at much the same time that Silent Hills was in production.

3. The only games Blue Box has thus far made are essentially PT knock-offs.

4. Although Blue Box's output thus far has been very poor, Sony seem to be putting an extremely large amount of faith into them and Abandoned.

5. I havent played any of Blue Box's games but there are apparently clues within the games that they are attached to the Silent Hills project in some way.

There are more connections, the deeper down the rabbit-hole you go but let's leave it at that in the interest of keeping this post within readable length.

I'm kinda inclined to think there could be something to it but I am ever the optimist.

I'm not even a Kojima or SH fan (or horror games in general) but I'm curious how this develops lol

@Voltan curious is definitely what I'm feeling too. I am a Kojima fan, though that has only been since playing Death Stranding and subsequently some of his Metal Gear Solid Games. I've never played a Silent Hill game but would definitely be interested in playing this one if it turned out to be true.

@colonelkilgore Yeah you can, but it would be the incorrect way of using it. If you wanna continue using it wrong, carry on fella. Like I said before, it would be like addressing people as Mr/Mrs and then their first name. Which generally does not happen, but you could still do it if you wanted to. 🤷‍♂️

In regards to Silent Hill, this has been going on for ages now but still nothing official or anything that is not originated from rumour or speculation. I did fall under the same trap before, but until we see something official or not from someone overhearing a conversation whilst on the bog, I'm not sure there anything actually interesting has happened yet.

@JohnnyShoulder in regards to San, it appears that San in Japanese culture is a false-eqivalent to Mr (or indeed Mrs) in Western culture. There just isn't a specific equivalent (like there is no word for Sorry in Klingon if you will) that the correlation between San (in Japanese) and Mr in the west has been incorrectly applied merely for a sense of commonality. In Japan it is most commonly applied to one's Surname but is equally applicable to one's given name.

In regards to unsubstantiated rumours and official press releases, I have no problem chatting or mulling over potentially exciting rumours. I was sure Blue Point were making a Demons Souls remake long before they released the famous job advert for a graphical artist who has experience with various armours. Chatting games and even potential games is the main point of this place right?

Some tweets pointed out that “Hideo” translated to from Japanese to Turkish is “Kahraman”, which is this game’s director’s last name (both mean “hero”). I checked and it’s true - according to google translate anyway.
Surely too much of a coincidence to be an actual coincidence?

Voltan

JohnnyShoulder

@colonelkilgore Weird, in all the Japanese media I've seen, it is contrary to that.

How do you explain Black Box saying they have no connection to Kojima? Surely anything else now is just pure speculation and coincidence. Just seems people are clutching at straws now and looking for things that aren't really there, just in some faint hope that it is true.

@JohnnyShoulder I wasn’t following it then but apparently he created a fake company to market MGS5 and they also said they had no connection to Kojima at some point?

@JohnnyShoulder listen, I'm not saying it is... but I'm also not saying it isn't. I'm saying it's quite fascinating and possible. If (& notice I'm using the word 'if' here) this is an ARG (marketing term denoting alternate reality game that involves people who are being unassumingly courted by marketing using an seemingly unattached interactive medium) and they have gone to these great lengths to set it up... do you honestly think they would just admit to it prior to the big reveal?

So, although it's American, there is a pretty famous movie from the 80's. It involves Japanese characters and culture. I'm assuming you've never seen it as the term Daniel-san became a pretty famous expression for a while. Its called The Karate Kid... its a great movie and still holds up, you should definitely watch it.

@colonelkilgore Tbf I would definitely not trust American movies from the 80's to get any foreign culture things right
I'm not necessarily saying they didn't but it might just as well be super offensive and nobody would care at the time

colonelkilgore

@Voltan very possibly, I'm just using it topically in reference to the @JohnnyShoulder quote to prop up the information I've already gleaned from 2021.

@colonelkilgore Yeah not the greatest example there.

In regards to Demon's Souls, c'mon that was one of the worst kept 'secrets' out there. It is easy to say things like you were sure the game was coming at that early stage in hindsight.

I just been disappointed far too many times with these things and try not to put so much stock into stuff like this when there is hardly anything concrete to go off.

@JohnnyShoulder you've actually triggered my curiosity and I've looked into it a bit more, San can even be applied to shops and businesses so, while Mr and Mrs are the closest honorifics in relation to San in Western culture they are definitely different.

And in relation to Demon Souls it is on my IGN profile from the day I joined it sometime in 2016/17. I had many debates with people at the time that were adamant that Blue Points next game wouldn't be Demon Souls. They were wrong. I think they must've been Klingon as they didn't say sorry 🤣

@colonelkilgore Yeah you are boring me now! 😴

I didn't think development had started until 2018, after Bluepoint had finished Shadow of the Colossus?

@JohnnyShoulder hey, you started it bruh...

Anyway, just logged into IGN for the first time in a looonngggg time to check when I joined. Its all changed though and I can't even work out how to access my profile now. Your probably right though, it must have been once SotC had released so must've been 2018.

@colonelkilgore I probably didn't care about it then to take much notice. Generally hate hearing about a game so far out from when it is released. Much prefer when you just see the game for the first time and it is out in a few months. But with leaks and stuff being all consuming these days, those things are getting rarer.

I kinda hope that if it’s all a marketing stunt and there’s no link then they get a backlash. It’s not really ok to piggy back off other people’s reputation.

@nessisonett totally agree, if it all comes to nothing Blue Box definitely knew what they were doing with the S & L tweet and deserve serious blow back.

With how tight Sony have control over their 'partners' though, I couldn't imagine Sony would just allow some small indie developer this much 'rope'.
