@FuriousMachine Outer Dark and Suttree have been my highlights so far, I have a habit of approaching things in release order so can’t speak for the later ones with the exception of The Road, which is what I was lent by a friend when I had no idea who McCarthy was. It’s a bleak and brutal novel, I hear the film is grim too though I’m yet to see it. Good luck anywhodle 👍

@AgentCooper @FuriousMachine
Only ever read No Country for old men and have seen the adaptation of The Road of Mcarthy's works.

Finished The Canary Keeper and that was a good read. Decided to forgo reading The secret chapter as the books were due back at the library anyway.

Next up Ghosts in the Gloaming by
denzil Meyrick and How are you going to save yourself by Jim Holmes!

Thanks, great tips. I'd forgotten about The Road; been meaning to add it to my list but kept forgetting. Now it's in
Glad to hear about the Canary Keeper; keeping it on my list then. Do you think you'll go back and try The Invisible Library from the beginning? If so, I'd be interested in hearing what you think.

@FuriousMachine I’ve read No Country and The Road which I really enjoyed (as much as you can, particularly with the latter).

Blood Meridian always gets high praise but I was kind of indifferent to it. I guess it is trying to push how brutal the period was but I didn’t find it a particularly enjoyable read and it seemed gratuitous for the sake of it at times.

But then again, it’s often hailed as a must-read so maybe it’s me that’s wrong

@Thrillho Good to know, I'll check it out. From what you're saying, it sounds like I might end up sharing your opinion on that one (though I have been known to enjoy a bit of gratuitousness every now and then )

@FuriousMachine I might do, will do some research on it but like yourself I've got plenty to read as it is.

Finished Ghosts in the Gloaming, enjoyable wee tale that I just read today, the author has a 10 book detective series, so on the list they go.

@MightyDemon82 That reading list only ever grows, doesn't it? A quick tally of mine shows that, given I continue to average around 30 pr. year, I will run out of things to read in about 25 years....

@PixelDragon Cool, Raven's Shadow is on my reading list, too. I assume you enjoyed Blood Song, at least enough to continue the series, so that bodes well

Currently Reading the original Alien Earth War Trilogy.

Book one is called Earth War.
Book two is called Nightmare Asylum.
Book Three is called the Female War.

Basically the books totally disregard Alien 3 & 4 and pick up right after the events of Aliens. Hicks is still in the Core but suffers from depression and alcoholism and nightmares from is ordeal on LV 426. Newt is locked up in a mental institution dealing with nightmares as well and the fallout from losing her entire family.aRipley has disappeared until the end of Book two.

The gang gets back together at the end of Book 2 and take the fight to the Aliens Home World and take care of business. It's awesome and I so wish the films went in this direction.

Just finished "Raising Steam", the penultimate Discworld novel and it was a little bit of a disappointment for me. I've enjoyed the earlier Moist von Lipwig books quite a lot, but something just didn't click here. Still, a disappointing Pratchett novel is still good, so I gave it 3 stars in my Goodreads review.

Now I'm starting "The Three Body Problem", which is being adapted for a Netflix series to be released early next year (and just got a rather cracking trailer). Looks interesting and I have high expectations

Concurrently reading Finnegan's Wake and a Skeleton Key to Finnegan's Wake.

Edit: Finished those two now. Now onto Mike Brearley's latest work.

Finished "The Three-Body Problem" by Cixin Liu and was a bit disappointed. Not the epic I was expecting and it got maybe a bit too dry and "sciency" for my tastes, even though everything was explained in such a manner that all the ideas and concepts were understandable for a "non-sciency" guy such as myself Gave it three stars in my Goodreads review, and will read the next in the series to see where it goes. Will also check out the chinese TV show available on Rakuten Viki at one point and also the Netflix series that hits next year.

But, before all that, I'm going to dive back into the world of Geralt of Rivia and check out Andrzej Sapkowski's "Baptism of Fire"

@FuriousMachine I found books 2 & 3 to be much better than the first. So I hope you enjoy the others more than you did The Three Body
Problem. I've added The Witcher to the ever expanding list, as I loved the Third game!

I finished How are you going to save yourself by JM Holmes this morning, next up Cry of the Wild by Charles Foster. Been a
Bit slower on the reading side with FFXVI occupying my time.

MightyDemon82

FuriousMachine

@MightyDemon82 Thanks, that is excellent news! I do want to see where this goes, but I was a bit worried that I might fall off. Got the second book lined up right after Baptism.

Been dragging a bit on the reading front myself lately and discovered to my horror that I'm currently two books behind on this year's reading challenge! (<gasp>) Time to drop everything and get to reading

Done with "Baptism of Fire" and the Witcher novels continue to be my preferred way of following Geralt of Rivia. Have not yet bothered with the third season of the Netflix show and I probably won't until I'm done with the books either. BoF wasn't the strongest in the series, though, but I still enjoyed it and I really liked a couple of the new characters that were introduced in this one. I gave it 3.5 stars in my Goodreads review.

I realise it's been a while since I read a non-fiction book, so I'm bumping the follow-up to "The Three-Body Problem" down a notch and will tackle "Unfollow: A Journey from Hatred to Hope" by Megan Phelps-Roper first. Phelps-Roper grew up in the notorious Westboro Baptist Church and this book chronicles how she got out.

Just finished "Unfollow: A Journey from Hatred to Hope" by Megan Phelps-Roper. A very fascinating and illuminating read which also tugs quite hard on the heartstrings every now and then. The book, and the author herself, is a true testament to the fact that keeping an open mind, listening to other people's thoughts, ideas and beliefs while also examining and re-examining your own thoughts, ideas and beliefs can only make you grow as human being and is never a bad thing. I gave it 4.5 stars in my Goodreads review.

Next, it's back to Cixin Liu's "Remembrance of Earth's Past" series, with the second book, "The Dark Forest"
