I'm looking for some game suggestions on ANY platform (old or new), any genre of game, where you can basically PERMANENTLY kill everyone (so not GTA), both good and bad NPCs! Also, preferably without mods. Here are those that I know of:
Deus Ex (1, 2, Human Revolution)
Elder Scrolls V
Fallout 1, 2, 3 + New Vegas (kinda)...but NOT 4 apparently
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series
And here are some games where I THINK you can do it, but I haven't played them:
Dishonored (thinking about buying on PS4)
Divinity: Original Sin
Any other lesser-known or recommended games would be nice! Thanks!
Er... Souls games? Life is Strange, I suppose, and also other player choice games I suspect (although I havnt actually played these) Until Dawn & Heavy Rain? Wolfenstein The New Order also makes you choose one of two friendly NPC's to die in the beginning chapter but there is no way round this so not sure it is what you mean, plus it's not everyone only individual characters
One of the most famous attributes of Lord British is that he is almost invincible. In every Ultima game in which he has appeared, he is designed to be almost impervious to a player's character predations. However, there are ways for a player thinking outside the box to assassinate him.[6]
This phenomenon is the origin of the Lord British Postulate which states: "If it exists as a living creature in an MMORPG, someone, somewhere, will try to kill it."[7] Virtually every MMO game displays numerous instances of this, with players attempting to kill (or, in the case of friendly NPCs, cause the death of) virtually every NPC or monster, howsoever powerful, meek, friendly, or ethereal.
Lord British was killed during an in-game appearance on Ultima Online's beta test on August 8, 1997. A royal visit was conducted as a part of server population stress test. A player character known as Rainz cast a spell called "fire field" on Lord British that, surprisingly, killed him. According to Starr Long, the whole thing was just a human error: Lord British's character, like others, had been made invulnerable, but by design the invulnerability did not persist over several game sessions. Shortly before the incident, the server had crashed, and Richard Garriott had forgotten to set his invulnerability flag on when logging on again.[8] Shortly afterwards, Rainz's account was banned from the beta test for previously exploiting bugs rather than reporting them (frequently used by his character Aquaman to kill many player characters, a purported griefing incident). According to Origin, he was not banned for the assassination but rather for previous complaints against his account that were brought to light as a result of this attention.[9] After Lord British was killed, fellow Ultima Online developer Starr Long (also known in game as Lord Blackthorn) summoned some demons, who attacked innocent bystanders. This led to beta testers protesting both the indiscriminate killing, and the banning of the assassin. MMOCrunch calls it the most memorable event in MMORPG History.[10] According to Wired magazine:[11]
The event reverberated through the gaming world, giving players an unprecedented ability to change and influence the game. Scads of protests brought the phenomenon of player killing – whereby experienced players prey on new gamers, killing them to collect points in the game and keep them from progressing to new levels – to the attention of game designers.
@Kidfried: Same with Divinity as far as I remember..you do need certain NPC's alive to progress the story. But then if you include Divinity you might as well include Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale/Neverwinter nights etc. too.
@kyleforrester87: Dark Souls! Oh yeah, I guess that's true! I need to revisit that game (except I can't get it to run full-screen after I upgraded to Windows 10 on my PC, and my PS3 copy is packed away with the console itself). Is Bloodborne the same? I own that game, but haven't gotten a chance to really play it much.
And I haven't played really any MMOs (aside from Guild Wars 2), so I hadn't heard about the Lord British thing. But my understanding of what you said is...Lord British was like a healer/helper/mentor/leader character for everyone, and somebody just managed to kill him one day, and it affected everyone on the server (almost like a real-life assassination)? That's crazy! Haha!
@kyleforrester87: I see what you mean with those other games you mentioned, but I guess I mean...I'm looking for games where you can kill all characters at will, like attack and kill them!
But yeah, adventure type games where you affect who survives are soooo fun. Like The Walking Dead: Season 1....for some reason, having Lee kill / let other characters die was so out of character, it was hilarious. I mean...at one point, you can make him shoot an unarmed guy in front of his own family. C'mon Lee! Ya jerk!
@Kidfried: Yeah, you're right...I know you can't literally kill EVERYONE in Skyrim, but at least you could kill a majority of people, AND get away with it (from what I played...20 hours in, I found that ALL of my main quests were broken, even if I reloaded old saves). In my book, that's not so bad!
@Tasuki: Oh no, a Moderator! Okay, I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone asked. Honestly, I'm not sure why, but that's just what I feel like playing all of a sudden. I think it mostly has to do with my past experiences with games like this. Here are some reasons:
I play all my games on the hardest difficulty and love challenges, and in games like Fallout 1-3, it's often more challenging to fight an entire village of people than go to a hideout of enemies. Also, when you've done all of the quests for a village, it's a readily available way to get some extra XP
I hoard items and money in games, so taking stuff from a civilian appeals to me (and sometimes...you gotta be able to fight back if they catch you doing it)
It's nice to know you can kill off certain NPCs if you don't like them (kind of an ego trip)
I hope that's not too crazy of reasons. I'm also in the mood to play games where you can go prone or lay down (Call of Duty, Max Payne 3, Resident Evil 6, etc) but I decided not to start a forum topic on that...yet.
@kyleforrester87: I work a lot, so coming home after a long day and laying down in a game and possibly hiding in a bush for some reason is just what I need to unwind sometimes. And have you ever played Max Payne 3??? You can LITERALLY lay down on your back during entire gunfights. It's HILARIOUS!!! And you can also roll down stairs....name one other game that lets you do that!
@nyarth: Haha yes, I love Max Payne 3, one of my favorite games. I gotta say though I found being stuck on my back more of an inconvenient result of doing a badass dive through a window lol
@BAMozzy: I forgot about Carmageddon...I think there's a new one, isn't there? I should mention that my wife's good friend was killed by a vehicle, so I wouldn't want to drum up bad memories. Anywa, TMI, but thanks for the suggestion though!
@nyarth: I believe there is a new one out - or due out soon. Doom (old and new) is just kill everything - there are a lot of games that you just have to kill everything to move on to the next level, stage etc - even Space invaders, asteroids. Obviously with games like Doom once you have killed everything off in that 'area' they stay permanently dead - if you go back, they don't respawn...
A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!
Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??
Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...
@BAMozzy: Well...I guess I mean...I'm looking for more of games where you can kill off friendly, non-enemy type characters. I just didn't want to say it like that because it sounds a little sadistic! Haha. I'm thinking games more like Doom 3....think of the first part of Doom 3 where you're just wandering through the maintenance areas after you get your pistol and you can shoot the workers, or even later in the game where you come across survivors, like a guy hiding in a vent shaft and you can either listen to him or shoot him.
Now that I think about it, you can even do that in Half Life 1 with all the survivors, and you can even exploit Half Life 2 into letting you kill friendlies by carrying around an enemy turret.
Regardless, I need to checkout the new Doom too! I think I'll actually buy that tomorrow in the current PSN sale.
Cannon Fodder - Amiga
Streets of Rage 1 - Megadrive (you can kill your buddy at the end if you choose bad ending)
Fable - Xbox
Halo Reach - Xbox 360 (spoiler you even die in this)

Bloodborne - one of the best games on PS4, only one character you can't perma' kill I think but they're not technically alive to begin with.
Wasteland 2 - Anyone can be killed in this game and death is permanent. This includes any and all of the characters in your group. There are of course consequences for killing civillians or specific allies as you would expect as you're meant to be a sort of police force / service.
