Topic: I want a Playstation Direct

I think Sony/Playstation should implement a monthly stream similar to Nintendo Directs.
I really love the feeling of suprise and getting something revealed out of nowhere it just makes it feel like an early E3.
This came up after that epic Little Mac's reveal for SSB4, even thought it got me by suprise for not paying complete attention.
I was doing some homework and was only hearing the sound on the latest directand check the video out the video when there was something cool coming up, so when I heard that they were going to show a new title trailer and heard the a slicing sword sound I decided to tune in for a sec.

I spent the first minute with my memories getting haunted by this whole theme without knowing what game they were showing and knowing that I've seen all this before, trying to remember where I heard the voice that voice before and figure out who was this guy with his covered on the pink hoodie and was really just trying to remember from what game was this and who were these guys, I knew I've seen all this before somewhere, the Champion's Belt, the training, everything was foggy until Doc Louis said "Hittem baby" while Mac was airboxing with his gloves on and everything finaly made sense I thought " Punch out for Wii U,? this is going AWESOME", and then he finaly punched the Sandbag from Smash Bros to make this even better.

I just exploded with excitement with excitement with this reveal, the way it was implemented, how everything was teased, it was just amazing and I want Sony/Playstation to do something similar, its not the same to hearing the news from a headline here or other site or watching, after all you already know what's everything is all about thanks to the title, I think it would really work really well for them thanks to Yoshida's recent customer centred approach everyone should be fine with him hosting few livestreams every year to show up some new games.

It does help with transparency for Nintendo fans.  From my perspective it seems to be very effective at getting fans excited for games

It would be nice, even if it is small previews of seeing games in various developmental stages.  A quarterly direct would be nice that way we can get updates on the progress of games and maybe even hear what's new.

I agree. There aren't many things that Nintendo does better than the competition these days in terms of advertising/loyalty building. But Nintendo Direct is definitely a good move. But, to be fair, Sony has the blog, which is kind of like having a Nintendo Direct except updated daily. In most cases it's Nintendo that has a lot of learning to do.

But I agree, the more surprises the better.

There is the problem of rampant disappointment and almost never ending complaining and doom threads, I think around every three months would work better gives Sony time to really put on a show while fans still stay relatively in the loop.

The charm of the directs for me, aside from the actual announcements, is how goofy they are. Iwata and co frequently get dressed up in silly costumes and make fun of themselves, which is incredibly endearing, and, in some cases, almost makes up for the lack of amazing announcements. And while Sony has certainly been going in the same direction - by really trying to humanise its executives - I don't think a "PlayStation Direct" would have quite the same quality to it. As someone else mentioned, we do have the PlayStation blog, which is like a "daily direct".

With all of that said, the hype that builds up before a Nintendo Direct is a whole lot of fun, so having two separate "directs" to be excited about would mean double the fun!

There is also a bigger problem of ridiculous expectations among many fans though

This is about as likely as AAA Exclusives from Sony on PS Vita, Wait! Its much more likely actually. A PD won't likely get my interest in their brand any further and neither does ND. There may be rare moments if would get interest but those are rare moments. The PS Blog is a better alternative as over a million visit the blog receiving at least more than three news pieces a day, this news spreads onto sites and it gets further. Nintendo direct does the same thing but in video/direct/in person form, the result is the same. They did have those Vita Heavens things, it was okay initially, needed improvement. It was silently canned like ZOE HD for PS Vita.

I wouldn't mind one is all i'll say.

Out of curiosity, what is your definition of AAA games and are they really that important to a system?

Nintendo needs the Directs because frankly, it does literally nothing else to get information out there. As somebody mentioned, Sony has its blog and in general both Sony and MS are much more open with the media than Nintendo is. I don't really think a PlayStation Direct would do much for Sony other than be a slight waste of resources.

AAA? There is no solid definition but usually it is a game, with a good budget & good marketing campaigns and these efforts usually back up the hype and AAA quality of said games. Its best explained using examples such as GTA 5 or Mario Kart or Halo Or Uncharted.
This is important for many reasons 1. My maximum enjoyment of a system. 2. To see the potential of a system being achieved. 3. To get sales up and as much third parties back, which again increases my enjoyment of said system. 4. To see more commitment to the system. Its very much important not only for me but for the system plus its owners.

Sure a system can try to live without AAA games, Ouya comes to mind but that is a different story but its necessary for the foreseeable fortune.
