I've noticed there are separate threads for other sports but didn't notice one for F1. Maybe that's because there aren't too many fans knocking about the forums but I thought I'd make one just incase anyone else wants to share their thoughts regarding the sport.
Also feel free to include opinions on the digital version of the sport which I haven't played for quite a few years but might be tempted to dip back in.
@BearsEatBeets Russell’s looked pretty good and comfortable in the practice sessions despite being over 6ft and being crushed into a Hamilton-sized car!
@nessisonett apparently Russell is also having to cram his feet into one size smaller shoes to fit in the cockpit. If he gets out hobbling after the race we will know why. Qualifying should be good in a couple of hours, with the shortened track they will probably be able to get more flying laps in.
@BearsEatBeets It’s looking like Hamilton will probably be passing the reins to Russell when he retires, he’s definitely an exciting talent and he has a bit of personality too!
@Thrillho With the shorter track it is definitely going to be trickier to get a clear gap to a good lap in. I won't be surprised if there a few 'getting in the way' penalties handed out this qualifying session.
Great showing from Russell to be that close to pole, shame he lost his record of out-qualifying his team-mate. Curious to see what happened to Norris in Q1, he seemed to be posting green sectors when he aborted the lap.
With the shorter track and 2 long straights I think there could be a lot of overtaking tomorrow.
@Arugula it was such a freak accident to end up going head on into one of those barriers on a straight I’d be surprised to ever see it again. Maybe they will add some of those tyre impact layers in front in future races just to add an extra level of protection.
I’m so glad that they didn’t show any footage of the accident until they knew he was out and okay because I never would have believed someone could have walked out of that. I remember when they first showed the wreckage I couldn’t even grasp where the front half of the car was.
It’s great to see him back in the paddock this weekend. I heard that the two marshals who got there quick with the extinguishers which helped him get out are members of the national military and earned promotions for it.
I’m with you in wanting a Russell win. Hoping for an eventful (but safe) race with everyone bunched up on the short track. Finding good timing for pit stops might be tricky.
Really interesting hearing Grojean telling his experience of the crash. Apparently a full 40-odd minute interview will be put online soon so will probably give that a watch.
@BearsEatBeets Someone just watching this season for the first time would probably think F1 was a full blown demolition derby with thrills, crashes and heartbreak 😂😂
Okay gutted for Russell but stellar drive regardless. Happy for Perez though, especially after last weeks engine failure. Crazy he doesn't have a car for next season right now.
Absolute nonsense. The truly sad thing is that this was Russell’s one chance to win some silverware. Bottas can go and screw up again next week but Russell doesn’t have that privilege. Nice to see Perez win considering he’s being bumped next season. Plus Russell still managed to salvage from points from that debacle.
Although tbh Hamilton might not be ready for next GP so who knows.
