@kyleforrester87 Ever seen The Fly II? It's not amazing, but it also has pretty great practical effects. There's one face-melting scene, in particular, that's just terrific. I love the gore and body horror in these films.
GitS1 is an absolute classic (the original, that is; not GitS 2.0 with its horrible, garish CG sequences). I saw GitS2 in a theater when it first came out, but I left hugely disappointed. The script was awful. Who makes 50% of a film's dialogue quotations from famous people?!
If you haven't seen it, the TV show adaptation Stand Alone Complex is absolutely worth watching.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy Bumblebee is incredibly charming and full of 80's nostalgia (which seems to be the 'in' thing right now, I've noticed). It feels like it was made by people who actually like Transformers.
@Ralizah yeah absolutely loved the awesome body horror in The Fly. I have heard bad things about number 2. Maybe I’ll watch it one day. Videodrome next, I think!
I was looking into Stand Alone Complex earlier, I think I’m going to try and pick that up next week. Think I saw it in HMV.
I'd have to say the Back to the Future & Jurassic Park films are undoubtedly my favorite sci-fi francheses, but I'll admit nostalgia plays a large part in that. I have an older brother, and since those were the movies he liked as a kid, that's what I grew up watching. I do know I watched the Star Wars films as a kid (in fact I remember going out with my dad renting them at Blockbuster, and he even took us to the theater to see the Phantom Menace), and while I like them well enough, they're just not all that special to me for whatever reason.
Also, it's interesting to see all the negativity surrounding Avatar, as my brother is the equivalent of a "Trekkie" for that movie. As far as he's concerned it's the greatest sci-fi film to ever grace the screen, and even has yearly meetups with other fans (a couple years ago they went to Disney's Avatar themed park when it opened up). Not sure where the love comes from. I don't hate the film by any means, but it has no connection to our childhoods so it was very much a sudden, adult-borne love for it he has.

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@Frigate I watched part of the first one over my lunch break. God I love that movie. One of my favorites. Judgement Day is one of my favorites too, but I have to give the edge to the original. Haven’t seen the others. I’m a huge sci-fi fan too. My favorite film genre. Been watching a ton of ‘80’s sci-fi the last couple of days. Probably going to watch Tron or The Fly next.
Species (Amazon Prime Video) - 90's sci-fi thriller/horror that sees government splice alien DNA into a human embryo (after they recieved a message from space detailing how to do so), and after the young girl rapidly ages into an adult and escapes the government facility, they must stop her from breeding with a human male before she can give birth to alien babies that could wipe out humanity.
It's alright. Her alien form was designed by the artist behind Alien's xenomorphs, so she looked like a slightly more human xenomorph, now with boobs, when in her true form. Overall the plot just seemed like an opportunity for lots of nude scenes (there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I really didn't think the film was really special otherwise).
Of course, the fact that the resolution constsntly fluctuated certainly didn't help my enjoyment of it. It routinely dropped just under HD resolution (just getting a little fuzzyness about it for a few minutes before recovering), and a few times absolutely tanked into a blurry mess. Especially during the climax (once they went into the sewer it tanked for the longest periods, and even during recovery periods never quite got back up to HD). I expect this from Netflix (which does this to me every once in awhile), but I've never had Amazon do it to me before and I'm really disappointed in them. This is really starting to put me off streaming, and outside of exclusive series, I think I may start buying all my films physical.
Saw Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse. Wow what a fun movie! The animation is fantastic, it really feels like you are watching a comic book. They do this wierd effect which I thought was 3D (as it looks like when you watch 3D without the glasses), but apparently it was done that way intentionally to get the viewer to focus on the action. Top notch voice acting all round and decent amount of character development in there too. My only real quibble is that Kingpin was kinda under used. Thought Prowler was really menacing though. Really wanted to played Spider-Man and wished I had bought it went is was on sale the other day.
Also watched Us. It has the same eeire feel as Get Out, but this is a more traditional horror movie. Get Out was probably a stronger film thematically, but Us is a better paced horror movie. It is pretty ambiguous in places, and I feel that I need to give it another watch, or at least part of it so I can connect all the dots in my head. Humour in horror films can be a tricky thing to pull off, but I thought it worked really well. Probably helps that the director has a bit of background in that field.
And in a bit of really good timing, I have Bumblebee to watch next. Hopefully you guys have not overt hyped it lol.
It's decent enough... Better then Salvation. Though I did appreciate Salvation being actually set in the future... Just.... It was pretty darn boring! 😅
I love the series too @Frigate ... I don't mind Terminator Genisys in fact barring the weird casting descisions (looking at you Jai Courtney & Jason Clarke)
T2 is the best though, along with it being one of the best movie sequels period!
Hopefully Dark Fate will be good @RogerRoger ! Linda Hamilton could do with becoming the badass older woman action star... I'd watch a Taken-esque film with her as the lead lol

"You don't have to save the world to find meaning in life. Sometimes all you need is something simple, like someone to take care of"
@kyleforrester87 yeah when i saw the trailer i thought to myself "i think it's time to end this series"
"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"
"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
@FullbringIchigo I thought that after the third film. I wish Hollywood would stop with all this rebooting and remaking films that I grew up with, it is beginning to make me resent them! ☹
@JohnnyShoulder Actually Dark Fate is not a reboot or remake it is the actually sequel to T2 the way Cameron envisioned it after making T2. All the other Terminators T3, Terminator Salvation, Genesys are alternate time lines according to Cameron.

@Tasuki for all intents and purposes it IS a partial reboot, though. The disappointing thing is the trailer makes it look like it’s channeling the poorer recent entries which begs the question, why bother? (Other than the obvious £$)
Personally I didn’t really mind T3 or Salvation, but they’ve raised expectations with Dark Fate and it doesn’t look like they’ll meet them with what we’ve seen so far.
@Tasuki A sequel to a film from 28 years ago. The principle is still the same and some things are just better off left as they were. I wouldn't mind so much, but most of em aren't half as good as the originals.
Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.
Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
@kyleforrester87 I.dont know but I never felt that any of the Terminator movies after Cameron left were actual sequels kinda like how I feel about the new Star Wars movies after Lucas sold them to Disney. The feel more like fan ficts so in away for me Dark Fate feels like the closet thing to a sequel to T2. Mind you I don't mind T3 or Salvation and quite enjoy them but as a sequel to T2.
I would probably feel the same way if Lucas ever returned to do another Star Wars movie.

I hope Dark Fate is genuinely good @Frigate . Can't blame the others for being worried though either as there's technically more bad then good Terminator films now
And thanks to Kyle's, Ralizah's and LN78's reccomendation it looks like I'll be watching Bumblebee pretty soon. If it's bad i'm gonna get the lot of ya
Also didn't see it initially but finally someone else giving Back To The Future some love!
I'm genuinely surprised to hear that devotion to the Avatar film your brother has @RR529 . I'm pretty much like the others here and don't really like it in the slightest, but glad your brother does!
I just ordered a bunch of Blu-Rays from Walmart, so I should be set for the next month - month & a half when it comes to movies.
The Wolverine - I actually like the newer X-Men films, and I've been wanting to see this since it's set in Japan (as a plus, it also comes with the 3D version, which I should be able to watch on my PSVR).
National Lampoon's Vacation - I enjoy all the Vacation films (except for the reboot) and tend to find myself watching them when they're on, so this was a no brainer. Plus, I won't have to worry about the TV censorship.
For Your Eyes Only - I like 80's-90's era bond films, so I figured I'll start buying them all from that era.
Oblivion - After the discussion about it here recently, I figured I may as well buy it while it is on my mind. I always seem to get really into it when it's on.
Of course, as always I'll post detailed thoughts on them when I get to watching them.
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy, yeah, he's been going to some pretty neat places on these annual trips & always brings back a few souvenirs, so I can't complain. Also, he insists on paying my way into any Cameron related film when they release in theaters, so that's pretty nice (we saw Alita: Battle Angel in 3D earlier this year, which was pretty cool).
