@RogerRoger Are you telling me that you don't need the big, strong critics to bravely shield you from bigotry by propping up a bad film as an act of progressive activism?
The dumb thing is that, for all the "support women" energy they put into it, the film was directed by a dude known for directing gross-out comedies. And, in that light, the real villains come to light: the idiotic executives who thought assigning a guy who specializes in sex comedies to direct a big-budget family-focused comedy was ever going to end in anything but disaster. And that's entirely on them and the director. I'm not a huge fan of the cast of that film, but you could absolutely make a decent Ghostbusters reboot with that same cast. Just... give them a good script. Actually respect the tone of the source material. Give Leslie Jones something to do other than yelling like a maniac (not sure when it became progressive to write a character that leans so heavily into the loud black woman stereotype).
@Foxy-Goddess-Scotchy It's telling that they advertised the previous American Godzilla film with Bryan Cranston front and center. Absolutely false advertising, but imagine a real "honest trailer" for that film instead. 90% of it would be that generic military dude, and nobody would have seen the film.
If you ever get the opportunity, you should at least see the original 1954 Gojira (not the American localization that added in American characters who had no business being there) and 2016's Shin Gojira, which was directed by Hideaki Anno, of Shinseiki Evangelion fame.
I do hope Godzilla vs. Kong turns out well, because Skull Island and King of the Monsters were both very fun American kaiju films. Finding that out about the director doesn't fill me with hope, though.
@RogerRoger Oh man, what a time capsule that reference was! I haven't even thought about that film since before graduating High School.
I actually liked the movie. But I'll admit Gyllenhaal trying to be a cowboy, with the mustache and the phony accent, always came off as a bit ridiculous, from what I remember.

Joker is good. Worth a watch and obvious that the critical response is predictably sensationalised.
The leap from watching this (or any) film to going on to try and emulate it is one is one of deliberate malice or the sort of mental imbalance that requires very little spark to get going.
At worst, there is one passage of dialogue that could be considered inflammatory( Joker's rant before he shoots Murray ) but that is delivered to a character who hasn't been particularly antagonistic and in a way that doesn't inspire sympathy.
The running 'eat the rich' theme is nothing new either, so for the generally rich(er) entertainment media/sjw crowd to have such an issue with it is perfectly telling.
I've seen it said that this is the best portrayal of the character; It is a fine film, and Phoenix will undoubtedly take home awards, but I couldn't disagree more. A brilliant take for sure, but proto-Joker isn't quite The Joker.

Groundhog Day, just saw that for my first time on TV. It's about a man who keeps waking up to the same day over and over again. Good film, I rather enjoyed it.
@KALofKRYPTON I almost felt the same with 1922 on Netflix, but managed to stick it out till the end!
Think the last time I gave up watching a film before the end was Nymphomaniac. I didn't even make to to the second disc!

Welllp... It's a bit early as it isn't exactly Halloween yet but after watching Oz the past few days I needed something a bit more cheerier... So decided to watch the Halloween Masterpiece that is...
Hocus-Pocus
Campy and hammy as hell but oh so enjoyable too.
Plus the voice of Thackery Binx (Yup the actor is dubbed over for some reason) is also the voice of Haku in the english dub of Spirited Away, Boone in Fallout: New Vegas, a bunch of people in Skyrim and Noel Kreiss in FFXIII-2!
Anybody watched Parasite (Korean movie)? It's getting rave reviews. I'm a big fan of the main actor Song Kang-ho so I'm hoping it'll be on Netflix eventually.
Alien (Blu-Ray) - Although I've seen bits & pieces of it in the past, this is the first time I've fully watched this sci-fi classic.
Pros:
It's a marvel in practical effects work. I mean, sure there were times when something showed it's age, but man was everything meticulously put together for the most part. The eggs & facehugger in particular gave me a believably squeamish reaction.
Tense & moody atmosphere that made it a perfect evening watch, with a genuine narrative twist or two. I never expected Ash would be an android.
Cons:
A small complaint in the grand scheme of things, but I didn't care for the incessant strobe light effect during the climax.
I can definitely see why this is a classic. It certainly holds up.

Since Alien was the last film in my last batch, I've ordered my next set of Blu-Rays.
A View to a Kill - the next Bond movie in line. I was going to get Never Say Never Again next (even though it's apparently not proper Bond), but it must not have had a rerelease in awhile. Walmart only has it through a 3rd party seller offering it for over $150! Heck, even the DVD was $60 or something like that. Needless to say I'm not spending that much on a movie, so I'm skipping it.
Godzilla VS King Ghidorah - the 90's version, comes in a double pack with the 90's Godzilla VS Mothra. I was going to get Godzilla VS Biollante, as it was next in-line after 1984/5 (which I last watched), but apparently Walmart only has it as an in-store purchase only, so I'll have to look for it next time I go.
Godzilla VS Mothra - Look above.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High - I tend to enjoy 80's teen films (and have seen parts of it before), so I've decided to get it.
Starship Troopers - A violent sci-fi epic with a more humorous tone (a satire of nationalist militarism), I've always liked it.
@JohnnyShoulder, @jacobia, yeah, I'll definitely check out Aliens (which I've heard is good as well, and have also seen some of). Not sure about the others though, as I haven't heard much about them (maybe Prometheus, which I caught on TV a few years ago, and is connected if I'm not mistaken).

@RR529 Yeah, I love the Alien franchise and Aliens is a top notch sequel. You’re mileage may vary with Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection though. Prometheus and it’s sequel Alien: Covenant are prequels to the first Alien film...again, mileage may vary. Enjoy 😊

@RR529 Aliens is my second favourite film! It's a different beast to the first one, much more action orientated. The films don't get any better than the first two. I didn't mind the third film, but it had a troubled production. Part of me wishes they had stuck with the wooden planet idea. Alien Resurrection is a mess of a movie. The two prequel movies are not that bad, just not very good Alien movies. I didn't like all the religious stuff very much in those films. I won't even go there with the AVP films.

@RogerRoger, I don't remember Never Say Never Again being THAT different in quality in relation to the official Bond films last time I saw it, so I'd like to buy it one of these days.
Hopefully it's not too long before it gets another release.

I watched Toy Story 4 the other day. I'd rate it as not quite as good as the first one or the third one, but better than the second one. Which basically still means it's a masterpiece.
I'd love to say I've watched some actual, grown up films. But no. Just Toy Story 4. Unless anyone is interested in my opinions on Thunder and the House of Magic.
Good job, Parappa. You can go on to the next stage now.
Alita: Battle Angel. Technically impressive but the rest of the film was pretty average i thought. I never really cared for any of the characters and the story was quite formulaic. And the design of the main character was really off putting. I understand they were trying stick to it's manga roots, but it just looked out place in the world. Awful sequel baiting ending too.

@RogerRoger This was my approach going in, although I was still very keen to watch it, being a massive Pixar geek. The fourth film certainly has an 'epilogue' feel, given that Toy Story 3 has one of the best trilogy endings ever, in my humble opinion, but it definitely does enough to justify its existence, even if it sometimes feels like you're watching an extended short.
