@Hogs-of-War-General "Slither" and "Crawl" are excellent fun I still think "Interview..." holds up well, though it was never a match for "Bram Stoker's Dracula" for me. As for the "Conjuring" universe, outside of the original "The Conjuring" (which I love) and maybe the sequel, none of the other movies have done anything for me. I found them for the most part trite and boring and that is the worst insult I can give a horror movie I love the creature design of The Nun, though, and she creeped me the hell out in The Conjuring 2, so the spin-off movie was a huge disappointment for me.

My revisit of Darkness Falls was not a good choice that was not fun 😂

@Pizzamorg Hahaha! Sometimes you need to revisit older films you enjoyed from the past, helps perspective

It was karmic balance I feel like, since I thought Ghost Ship had held up well. 😂

Saw two films yesterday because the first one was such a disappointment didn't want to end my night with a bad film:

1. An American Haunting - DVD - The reason why I bought this film from my local thrift store, mind you it was only a buck, was because of the main cast it had: Donald Sutherland and Sissy Spacek. It started off decently with good atmosphere and pacing but the last 15 minutes was complete garbage. Endings make or break films and this ending destroyed the entire experience. Do not waste your time fellow film buffs.

2. Wolf - Prime - I remember liking this film as a kid when I watched it and so I decided to watch it again. Talk about a night and day difference from the previous film! Top notch in all aspects, editing, pacing, characters, acting, writing, effects, score (Ennio Morricone no less), and overall a great film. Resonated with me on many levels and one of the best films I have seen all year. Not a full-on werewolf film but it delivers very well with the human element and besides, mid 90s Nicholson and Pfeiffer were top-tier!

Highly recommend

Finally checked out Prey, I guess with all the hype around this I was always destined for failure. Thought I was in for something great, when really the film was just okay.

@Pizzamorg I haven't seen it yet but it's on my watchlist. Do you mind elaborating more on why it was just 'okay'?

The only way I will see it is when I buy it on 4K but not at the price it's at now.

It has a cool ending showdown, and a pretty fun back half in general to be honest. But the first forty minutes could be skipped and basically nothing would be lost. Predator looks great, all the rest of the CG is awful. Its a matter of taste, but I really don't like the shaky cam cut a second style of shooting action scenes, and found much of the action really underwhelming and hard to follow as a result. You may like it more if you appreciate that style.

@Pizzamorg That's unfortunate to hear. I have read mixed reviews on the film and it sucks that the CG parts are not good. I have been noticing much more as of late 'fast' editing and 90% percent of the time it's garbage. Directors and editors need to slow down because slower one shot action sequences do a scene a lot more justice than 25 shots in 3 seconds. Shaky cam is cool but it depends on the film genre and style.

Of all the Predator films(if you've seen them all, including AVP 1 & 2) which would you say is Prey more comparable to?

Prey is probably closest to the original, to be honest. Really strips out a lot of the stuff that has been added over the years to take it down to basics. Moving it into a sort of feminist western direction for flavour, but the core beats are largely the same as Arnies original outing (without all the scenes of people unloading billions of dollars of ammunition into trees).

Also to answer your question above, I am on Letterboxd by the way, I only really use it in October when I do these marathons these days: https://letterboxd.com/Pizzamorg/

@Hogs-of-War-General I really enjoyed Prey myself. Best in the series since the first film. Am interested to see what they do with the next film, which i way more then i could have said in years for the series.

Life is more fun when you help people succeed, instead of wishing them to fail.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

@JohnnyShoulder Haha thanks! Yeah I've been wanting to watch it since I first heard about it years ago but the fact that it came out on Hulu and not theatres really pissed me off...
