Realistically Brazil have been below average in all four games so far and have relied on luck (dodgy penalties, shots hitting the woodwork, penalty shoot-out win). Soon as they meet a team who have real quality they will get hammered unless they sort themselves out. Colombia, if they get through, will beat Brazil. Even if they somehow jam their way through that one I think Klose and Muller would be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of getting a hat-trick.
Intrigued tonight to see if Cavani is any good. Every time I've seen him he's been just a long-haired Danny Welbeck yet everyone raves about him. Would like to see why so hope he has a good game finally.
That is the reason that I hate penalty kicks shoot out. IMO the team that deserves to win doesn't win due to that factor. Seems more luck based then anything else. I wish they would just to to sudden death rules like the NFL.

Almost as terrible as the ITV commentary. Jesus, they're meant to be impartial, not slagging Uruguay off every second. No wonder the people there think the media blame Suarez for everything and that there's a witch hunt. Absolutely pathetic. Oh, and it's Ha-mez, not James - is it that hard to say?
Cavini, again, was useless. Biggest waste of space since Paul Konchesky (I still wake up in cold sweats about him).

England, Italy, Uruguay have all been terrible, okay Uruguay did OK against England but we were inept. Colombia deserve to be in the quaters, I think it'll be a very good game, neither team will sit back, hopefully. Loving this world cup, 2010 was fairly cruddy.

Agreed, it's been a real step up. I think it's great that so many teams are playing fast attacking football.
I suppose I better write down my predictions for today's matches in case I get them right. Ego inflating time!
Netherlands - 3 Mexico - 0
This is a hard one to call, but I don't think Mexico have the attacking power to do enough damage to Netherlands before they get in behind them and knock a couple of goals in. I do like Mexico, though, so I kinda hope this doesn't happen.
Costa Rica - 2 Greece - 0
Let's face it, Greece are probably the worst team in the last 16. They've got virtually nothing up front and even their well-known defence has been shaky. I think this may be a repeat of Colombia vs. Uruguay from last night.

1-0 to the Mexicans and the Greece. The Dutch are nothing special and Greece while being awful have the most incredible luck in football that they make Man United look unlucky.

Van Gaal looks perfect for United. Jammy bastard manager for a jammy team. The Dutch are awful, so poor, no ideas, no leadership and none of their big players (bar Robben) have actually turned up this tournament. Even RVP has gone missing since that wonderful header. Soon as they play a team who can finish they will get slaughtered. Since the Spain slaughtering they've gone backwards and even that has shown to have been not the big deal we thought it was then seeing as Chile battered them and even Australia did for a good hour. Was amusing though to see Holland turn into an orange Tony Pulis-era Stoke.
As soon as Mexico started standing off Holland I knew they'd get a goal - and they got two. Mexico are good, but it seemed as though the thought of winning got to their heads too early and they stopped playing.
Holland were pretty lucky, but with the players they have you can't count them out, and that's pretty much what Mexico did when it got to 70 minutes or so. Holland will get to the semi-final now, but I think they'll have their hardest game against Argentina/Belgium, hopefully the former.
Greece and Costa Rica turned into a good match by the end, penalties were tense. Glad Costa Rica went through, though, they'll give Holland a better game.
