@colonelkilgore You will love it

I kind of like that the Japanese from this period center everything around honor and that they don't consider that a life is worth living even in little shame. That small disregard for human life makes them so awesome

the old TV show, Lost is leaving Freevee pretty soon. Dang it lol. I swear good stuff always start leaving Freevee. they're about as bad as Netflix sometimtes

I'm four episodes deep into Sugar on Apple TV+ and I can't begin to describe how sucked in I am. It is as proper a neo-noir mystery you can possibly get, complete with the protagonist voice-over, jazzy soundtrack and a story where the layers of grime hidden under the L.A. glamour are on display. The show wears its heart and influences on its sleeve, even intercutting clips from classic noir films to surprisingly good effect. Colin Farrell was born for this role as the P.I. with quite a few secrets of his own who gets involved with a case that may very well be his undoing.
As a long time fan of the genre, this scratches an itch I've been waiting a long time to be scratched.

Watched the first 4 or 5 episodes of Ripley last night and overall I’m liking it. I’m a massive fan of the Minghella movie from the late 90’s so was interested to see this new take. It has quite a unique feel to it, at least for this current age. It’s very patient, with shots, scenes and line-delivery taking far longer than a modern audience is used to. That together with the shot selection and high-contrast B&W feels like Zaillian has gone for an Italian neorealism feel, which is very appropriate given the setting and period.

just wondering if Umbrella Academy is still a thing for Netflix or is that Rebel Moon all the craze now?

Watched the first five episodes of "Shogun". I loved everything about it except the definitely not Tom Hardy bloke who plays John Blackthorne. He's a bit of a block.

@colonelkilgore August 8th when I just googled it. Which is good news, as I thought it had finished.

@JohnnyShoulder yeah I was a bit surprised when I heard there’d be another season myself. Netflix are actually having a decent year to be fair.

Late to the party but I just finished the first season of Reacher. Have to be honest, I was kinda disappointed in this. I heard really good things, but I dunno, this just sorta felt to me like any of the direct to streaming action titles you can find dozens of padding out streaming services anywhere. The one major difference here is this was stretched unnecessarily across eight episodes. Don’t get me wrong, there were some solid performances and I enjoyed the chemistry the core cast get to enjoy as the characters warmed to one another across the series, but I already feel like I forgot about 95% of what happened in this show and I just rolled credits.

binging through Season 2 of Justice League on Netflix. the old cartoon is still great but have noticed that some of the citizens do get killed by having their Lifeforce sucked out by Morgana and even Cyrus Gold getting shot up by rival gangsters in a flashback. I think that's cool but the show does get a bit gruesome once in awhile for an old kids and the show is also for adults but I'm just saying that the show does get a bit violent during Season 2.

Didn't Young Justice used to be on Netflix a long time ago?

Finished "Shogun" and - Blackthorne actor aside - I thought it was superb from top to bottom. I had a few issues with shonky subtitling, though - they were either missing or mistimed/overlapping - which made the scenes with multiple characters (like the crucial council meetings) difficult to understand. Started "Fallout" - after two episodes I'm not impressed at all. The aesthetic (lifted wholesale from the games) is good and the acting is fine but the writing is getting on my nerves - is every character an idiot or dislikable or a dislikable idiot? I don't think I can stick this for another 7+ hours (Walton Goggins or no Walton Goggins) if that's the case. Looks to me like a major instance of style over substance but it's early days so I could be wrong.

just wondering if Hulu Live is worth it instead of having regular tv from the local TV cable company?

While scrolling through amazon prime yesterday I stumbled upon season 2 of Them. The missus and I really enjoyed season 1 back a few years ago and just assumed that it was a one-off as there had been nothing mentioned about it since… but there it was, dwelling way down on one of the lists you’d only check when unable to find anything else decent to watch.

We watched the first few eps last night and seems pretty good so far… it’s an anthology horror show, so a bit like American Horror Story but centred around African-Americans. Looking forward to watching some more this evening.

@colonelkilgore I didn't realise there was a season 2 of Them. I will have to check that out, as I'm currently watching stuff on Prime in the build up to season 4 of The Boys.

Last to the party as ever, but I thought Backlash 2024 was a solid show, overall. I thought both of the women's matches kinda dragged the show down a bit, but outside of those we got three good matches. (The redhot French crowd who brought it the whole show helped, too.)

I know AEW was in part his company, but Cody is a very WWE wrestler to me, I always thought his style of wrestling felt out of place in AEW which is generally a much more indie style of promotion. Faster, harder hitting, I always felt like Cody was wrestling in slow motion compared to everyone else in AEW. Maybe that should have made him stand out, but it just made his matches boring to me. In WWE, however, he feels right at home working main events like this against Styles.

Also gonna be interested to see what the new Women's Tag Champions do, this match absolutely came off the rails but it seemed to be more down to language barriers / communication issues with Asuka and Kairi, than the fault of Cargill being green. However, she is obviously still quite green all the same and it'll be interesting to see how long they can structure matches where Bianca does the majority of the work and Cargill is just brought in for brief spots. Unless they do this intentionally to build up a feud between the two of them, that is, I think they could have a great match.

@JohnnyShoulder yeah same, was my high school years. Loved the west coast gangster rap of the time too, which is cool as season 2 is set in Cali afaik.
