@JohnnyShoulder you know i love how everyone blames Netflix but forgets that Disney/Marvel was also involved in the decision
still like you said it's not surprising and i'll be honest i wasn't a big fan of the Netflix series anyway

@FullbringIchigo I've enjoyed what I've watched so far, but I've still got the final seasons of everything to watch. Not sure if they will stay on Netflix that long though.

@RogerRoger I really wonder about how Netflix is doing and what their business plan is going forward. They must be making money hand-over-fist because there is hardly a person I know, either in person or online who doesn’t seem to have a subscription. It’s the closest thing to a monopoly that we have in entertainment. However, the enormous volume of Netflix original content they create certainly can’t be cheap to produce, so I have to give them props for investing in their product. There does seem to be more and more recent movie releases that make a showing as well, although the overall movie library appears to not be as much a focus as it was early on. With Disney+ streaming service coming out this year, I wonder how Netflix will respond. And how does Netflix attempt to show business growth as surely they have maxed out their potential. Is there still a target audience that doesn’t already subscribe? Maybe the 65 and older demographic, but good luck trying to capture the senior population and getting them to stream. I guess we’ll know if they start carrying old TV series like Gunsmoke and I Love Lucy. 😅
The Netflix original content seems pretty good usually, but lately it seems to be getting pretty bizarre and honestly there is almost too much of it for me to even bother keeping up. I know I’m in the minority since I usually choose playing a video game over watching TV, but still I have an inkling that Netflix is on the verge of a slight dip in profits over the next couple years.

@RogerRoger In fairness to House of Cards, they were dealt a bad hand (Boom Boom!). I'm not really sure how they could have done better in the time they'd given themselves.
@Th3solution I'd say of their original content that for every three duds, they get a banger. Which for any network is probably quite sustainable. Certainly as the relatively captive audience vs costs associated with a cinema release targeted to reach the same sort of numbers is a no brainer for film releases.
I think Netflix strikes a nice balance of original and bought in content, and it's cheap , and they got in early. i know very few people (IRL) who bother with Amazon Prime beyond the shipping benefits - and every new one that rears up just gets met with rolled eyes when it's another very specific streaming service (here's looking at you DC/Disney/CBS).
Cinema is in more danger than Netflix I think.

@KratosMD Sad news Luke Perry passed away today. Not only did I really like him as Fred Andrews in Riverdale but grew up watching him on 90210. My thoughts and prayers go to his family of course but I wonder what this means for Riverdale.

@RogerRoger I loved the first day - they very much lost me with the second and the 'sexy inprobable adventures of Kim Bauer'. I never really went back to it other than to watch a few bits when Peter Weller showed up.

Maybe it's my age, or maybe they simply "don't make 'em like they used to"... heck, it's probably a little of both.
Anyway, long story short? 24 is awesome.
they certainly don't make them like they used to, instead of making a show for the purpose of making a good and entertaining show they now make them for the lowest common denominator or to esensually "tick a box" as in "do we have this kind of show? no, then make one" or "do we have this kind of character? no, then lets get one"
either that or it's another cheap reality TV show

@RogerRoger yep instead of trying to create new and exciting content they just copy what is "trendy", you know like how every drama has to be "Game of Thrones", dark and brooding, it even infected Star Trek with Discovery, Star Trek was usually a light and hopeful series is now full of angst and darkness (which is the kind of series Gene DIDN'T want and i know DS9 had some dark episodes but it also have fun too)

Just watched a recap of seasons 1 - 7 of Game of Thrones, in preparation for next week. Such an outstanding show with so many stand out moments, I'll miss it when it is finished. Oh well, hopefully the prequel show will fill that void.

Ned's beheading, The Red Wedding, Cersei blowing up the church, Olenna's death, Joffrey's death, Tyrion's trial, Oberyn's death, Daenerys imagining Drogo, Daenerys acquiring the Unsullied, Melisandre birthing her demon baby.... and I'm sure I'm still missing plenty of great moments.
Hope season 8 can finish the show in a good manner. Whatever happens, it's bound to be divisive with all the different finale expectations going around. Season 7 wasn't all that great, and season 4 remains it's best. Let's hope the final season can come close. I just pray they don't kill off Cersei immediately. My favourite character of the show, and I'm surprised she has even survived this far.
Everyone should give Fleabag a go. The writing is incredibly sharp!
I started up The Santa Clarita Diet again after seeing that there was a third series out. It'll never set the world on fire, but it is a satisfying watch. Timothy Olyphant and Drew Barrymore spend pretty much every episode engaging in very well written exchanges.

@KALofKRYPTON Have you watched Killing Eve? It's also created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and shares the sharp, often hilarious writing of Fleabag. Definitely recommended if you haven't. You might also enjoy Catastrophe if you haven't already seen it and are longing for more British comedy close to Fleabag's humor.
Since there seem to be quite a few DC fans around here, I was wondering what all of your thoughts are regarding the upcoming Pennyworth show. (Trailer for reference)
I've heard quite a few mixed opinions on it. It's from the Gotham team, which I believe I've seen mentioned in this thread before. I'm mostly interested because it comes from Epix, a network which provides the excellent TV show Get Shorty, so I want to see what they do next (between this, Godfather of Harlem and Perpetual Grace, LTD). I'm interested to hear how DC fans here feel about it, though, considering you approach this project from a different perspective.
@RogerRoger I liked the first season of Gotham but mid way through the second I just couldn't do it anymore. It was bad just didn't feel like Batman to me which I guess they were originally planned to do. I did like how the first season centered on Gordon that was but the the second they decided to shift the attention to Bruce and tried to make it like Smallville, which I will admit I am not a huge fan of. I think if it stayed built around Gordon I would have been able to enjoy it still.

I did a survey a couple of days ago from NOW TV. Usually I don't give them the time of day, but I thought what the hey I got nothing better to do. So in the survey it presented what could happen when Disney+ comes in. Well i assume it was Disney +, it was never mentioned by name and was always referred to as an app from Fox/20th Century Fox. Anyway here is part of it which I copied.
"Instead, all the TV shows and movies from Fox/20th Century Fox are only available to watch directly through two separate apps. These apps will also include content from Disney which would still be available on NOW TV.
One of these apps would be specifically for kids and family friendly shows and movies, and the other for content less suitable for kids.
Favourites from Marvel and Star Wars would be available in both.
These apps would work like other TV and movie apps, being available on a number of devices, including smart TVs and devices you can connect to TVs. On the apps, you’ll be able to watch what you want when you want.
Imagine these new apps cost £6 for one or £10 for both. You would pay on a rolling monthly basis.
NOTE: Fox/20th Century Fox movies would be available to rent or buy through Sky Store or other digital services or to buy on DVD, but the app would be the only place to access them as part of a subscription."
It went into further detail about which shows would be leaving, what plans SKY have once the changes happens, and would you be happy still subscribing to NOW TV. The plans that had were a bit vague and it kinda felt they didn't exactly know what shows were coming in.
I basically said no I wouldn't continue subscribing, especially as a sky cinema pass has just gone up to 11 quid a month (I was cancelling it way when the current offer ends).
