@LuckyLand offset sticks hurt my hands after prolonged play, it's they way i have to hold controllers you see, i have bad wrists and the way the PS controller is set out is a lot more comfortable for me to use

@FullbringIchigo @RogerRoger I agree, I had a DS when they were popular but in retrospect, wish I had gotten a PSP. The PS Vita is probably my favourite handheld of all time and I've always got at least one game on the go for it.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

Honestly - if Sony had had the foresight to open up (and suitably licence) the Vita to be plugged in to a display, as we all know it can - it could've set the world alight. PSTV was a shameful afterthought and ruined by handheld/home licensing restrictions.

I think with the success of the Switch - there is clearly the demand for a portable machine that will play at home. Look at the Neo Geo X even!

@RogerRoger i wouldn't use it but then again it wouldn't work with me as it required both of your eyes seeing each image and being blind in one eye i couldn't do that

@FullbringIchigo How do you cope with that if you don't mind me asking?

I have moderate Keratoconus that I manage with contact lenses. I'm down a lens as have some inflammation - which renders anything more than a few inches away from my right eye basically illegible. I tried playing a couple of titles but found that I just couldn't follow what I was doing.

@RogerRoger I like the 3DS and picked up a cheap second hand OG 3DS to play some of the games, but after playing for a little bit, I wasn't feeling it and ended up upgrading/downgrading to a new 2DS XL which suited me better. I know some love it but for me, I found the 3d hard to deal with for long periods of time.

One day, I'll get a 2DS and catch up with the, what... three? If that, the three games I wanted to play but couldn't. Sonic Generations and the two Sonic Boom games.

Sonic Generations for 3DS/2DS is crap. I have Sonic Generations on PC (and I really like it) and on New 3DS and the 3DS version just sucks. There is an improved version of Sonic 1 on 3DS (for example you can use the spin dash move) I higly recommend to buy that game instead.

@RogerRoger Sonic 1 for the 3DS is great in every possible way, it is just the best version possible of that game, but made even better! It's not like the GBA version

Spider-Man 2 The Movie The game wasn't actually a good game, all it had was decent web swinging physics

@Kidfried yeah they are rather small, OK when they are in the control dock though

I've never had an issue with the joycons, personally. And I have large-ish hands.

I personally prefer them outside of the grip, though. Not having my hands locked in place when I'm playing on the dock is great.

@Kidfried The D-buttons work surprisingly well for most games. They're actually superior when it comes to Puyo Puyo Tetris. Although nothing will ever replace a D-Pad for me. My preference would have been to have a D-Pad on the L-Joycon, but 2D games are perfectly playable with the D-buttons.

In terms of layout, I find using the D-Pad on the Xbox 360/Xbox One controllers and Nintendo Switch Pro Controller to be uncomfortable.

Your thumbs reach L and R... in what position?

The joycons nestle down in my hands and are delightfully comfortable. Sans shoulder straps, of course. The shoulder straps make them too wide

@Kidfried They're probably my favorite controller(s) ever. Extremely comfortable and flexible and long-lived. And the HD rumble is kind of neat with certain games.

I'm not a fan of Xbox-style controllers at all, which is why I'm not interested in the Switch Pro.

DS4... the general layout is comfortable, and it has a great D-Pad and triggers, but the battery life is horrible, as are the options/share buttons and that useless touchpad.

Unpopular Opinions:

  • SMT IV: Apocalypse is one of the best games Atlus has ever released.
  • Radiant Historia, on the other hand, is one of my all-time least favorite Atlus games.
  • West of Loathing looks horrible, and no amount of "clever writing" could possibly justify that game's presentation
  • I don't remember if I said this before, but Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii and New 3DS is my least favorite Xeno- game.
  • Metal Gear Solid 2 > Metal Gear Solid 3
  • I prefer waggle controls in DKC: Tropical Freeze to more traditional controls.

@Kidfried Eh, the battery life is pretty important, and it's a huge strike against the controller in my opinion. But. overall, it's a pretty great controller. Factor in gyro controls when used with Steam games and it becomes probably the best general-use controller I've found.

In terms of comfort, I'd say:
1) Freeform joycons
2) Gamecube controller
3) NES "dogbone" controller (shaped like the SNES controller, but without the weirdly positioned shoulder buttons)
4) Wii remote + Nunchuk (my feelings on this have improved A LOT over the years, to be honest)
5) Dualshock 4

@Kidfried did you ever get to try the Atari Jaguar controller? Now that is THE worst.

Other awful controllers;

Megadrive 3 button pad
(The 6 button with amazing d-pad was way better)
Xbox Juke
(Hugggge pad with none working d-pad and 2 face buttons out of reach)

Being completely objective, I'd have to say that the Master System Joystick is one of the absolute worst I've ever used.

When I was a kid a mate had a Batman joystick. It looked amazing, but it was really, really uncomfortable!
