Well mine is hard to explain because I tend to over complicate things. So I will just say its complicated.
Lets say in a game like the Last of Us I will always try to kill everybody without getting noticed 1 by one by any means or try to kill all the enemies all at once or make that kill unavoidable taking in mind the tools availabe at the moment. So I may play stealthy all the time but I may rush out of nowhere if I find a way to complete the objective or get the enemy.
To sum it up: Make everything complicated Play safe Adapt to the situation Secure objective/Kill somehow
Slow and steady I guess you could say. One thing I love to do, even in shooters, is explore every part of the environment.
As far as actually getting through stages, it really depends on the game. Obviously you can just mindlessly blast your way through Halo, Killzone, Gears and even Uncharted. But for games like Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid or Deus Ex, I definitely play it safe. I'll stay in one spot for 5-10 minutes if I have to to wait for the perfect opportunity to strike from the dark. Those games definitely don't encourage you to run and gun and I get destroyed every time I try.
Stealth stealth and stealth. I am useless at run and gun. Lots of time exploring, strategising and finding a weak-spot. The I will either bounce or chip away depending on what is appropriate.
