Im 32. Male. I'm deeply into literature like Lovecraft and Poe, I usually like more serious stuff in all kinds of media. Is there an anime series you could recommend to me thats maybe about sci-fi? Time travel? Space? The occult? I never really got into the anime-craze (besides watching whole of Sailormoon when I was 14 and crying at the end of season 1... lol) except "Bubblegum Crisis". I can take "japanese weird humor" but it shouldn't be all sillyness if possible.
Any recommendations?

"They played us like a damn fiddle!" - MGS5
"Finish your mission, prove your loyalty." - MGS3
"We could take a s*** on you from such a height, you'd think God himself has crapped on you!" - GTA: SA
Currently Playing: The Phantom Pain.
Having had the opportunity to get to know your tastes (and agreeing with them to a scary degree), you must check out everything you can get on "Neon Genesis Evangelion". There's comics, movies and an anime series, but you should start with the series, as it's the original gangster, so to speak.

Ha Skeeve, I was just waiting for you to show up. Yep. To a scary degree. I didn't get into NGE to be honest, but the last time I tried is years past. I'll try and get hold of the series. Im absolutely no fan of mangas (you know, the books...) - even though I really enjoyed UZUMAKI!

Give it a shot again, buddy! It's really good stuff, especially a little bit farther into the series! The sense of hopelessness and despair is really chilling.
Didn't watch much of Gundam, but what I saw was awesome, so heed the Roks recommendation as well, I say!
Definitely Death Note, Light is of the most awesome, and the best protagonist anime, and one of the best in everything really. Quite possibly the most intelligent there is, and Light is definitely the most intelligent person in anime. Death Note also has my favorite art style in anime. Vampire Knight is also really good, definitely the best vampire thing there is. Very good plot, keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is a must - you can't not watch it and the Rebuild films are brilliant, especially the last two Fractale, man that was great Ghibli films too, of course Summer Wars is fun Towards the Terra Attack On Titan Steins Gate Persona animes Black Bullet Sankarea Hellsing Ultimate Highschool Of the Dead (lots of 'fan service' in that so be warned) Cowboy Bebop Outlaw Star Eden Of the East Perfect Blue 5cm Per Seconds The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Ghost In the Shell (all films and shows) Paprika (stunning music, had the theme as a ringtone for about seven years) Kill la Kill
I recommend going out of your comfort zone with anime though, I love shows like... A Channel Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko Madoka Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai Kids On the Slope (from the people behind Cowboy Bebop) Ouran High School Host Club Love Hina (the manga is MUCH better though) despite them looking completely not what I like.

Thanks for even more advice, I really like DOKURO CHAN though!
