Microsoft got there first and it looks a lot better than the original Xbox One but can not see what the specs are apart from 4k support. Suprising it is coming with a 500gb hard drive thought they would have gone with 1tb. $300 seems reasonable its a shame that that price in the uk will not be converted at the exchange rate and end up probably at about £250 but again that seems fine. Be good to know more details soon.

It's not all that different from the current Xbox One. It just allows 4k video/streaming/bluray. I'm not sure it will even support the new Ultra 4k bluray. It looks really nice, it's way smaller, and it has a built in power supply... all very positive changes considering the price point. I'd be a little disappointed if I had purchased an Xbox One recently....

In terms of gaming, it's no different other than some better color support (if you have a UHD display) and maybe a 4k upscaler? That part is unclear. It's an interesting move considering the more powerful Xbox One will be out sometime next year. If I had a UHD tv, I know I'd be waiting for the new version... but if I could afford a UHD display, I could afford a temporary Xbox One S for the time being. There's no competitor on the console market to the S yet.

It does look nice.............hope they stick with white as the main color, the market doesn't need two glossy jet black boxes.

The Slim will have 3 HDD sizes 500GB, 1TB and 2TB and comes with a 4k Bluray player, HDR (meaning it supports Ultra HD Premium) and will upscale content to 4k - games included (but the Scorpio is expected to play native 4k) and includes HDR in games too - Forza Horizon 3 has HDR coding in it. Aaron Greenburg was interviewed on IGN about this.

The original Xbox One looked like they made it based on a VCR and it did not look good (only my opinion). Now they create a great looking machine. Not that looks matter of cause. But this is how it should have looked from day one. Being as it takes up a lot less space I might end up purchasing it.

It is a sexy looking machine, I'll give you that. I'm intrigued as to whether this will affect sales that much - I think what we may see is that both PS4 and Xbox (1 and slim) will both flatline as we get closer to the new iterations with upgraded specs. If I were to get an Xbox1, I would probably wait for scorpio.

Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot

yeah it does look nice, but then they announced the Scorpio and it kind of makes it obsolete already, why buy the slim if the Scorpio is coming not long after

As it stands at the moment, Scorpio is not due out for a year after Slim. The Slim offers 4k streaming, full 4k UHD Bluray player and HDR for £250. It will give games the HDR treatment and upscale to 4k. Visually it looks exactly like the XB1 aesthetically but obviously a lot more compact. If you put 2 side by side you would notice the difference but if you put 2 pictures side by side and scaled them similarly, its difficult to see much has changed. I see the controllers have now added Bluetooth too so that is a big deal as Sony gamers already know.

As it stands at the moment, the Slim is a very good deal if you have a 4k HDR TV and want to stream 4k HDR content or watch 4k HDR blurays. Considering it plays games too and will give them the 4k upscale/HDR treatment (as shown/available in Forza Horizon 3 and Gears 4 - both HDR) - its possibly better than buying a dedicated 4k HDR Bluray player - just like year ago we used our PS3 as a Bluray/DVD player instead of buying a separate.

If the Neo however has the same 'media' capability and not just an upscaling bluray with no HDR, then the Slim could be in trouble. At £250 (500GB model), the Neo for a £100 more (also 500GB) or less if you consider the 1 or 2TB models could well be the much better buy. Not only will it give you the 4k options BUT will also improve the games and gaming experience. Who would buy the Slim when it plays games at 720/60 when for a £100 more you could play those at 1080p (or above) natively.

If you are in the market for an XB1 and have a 4k TV (even if you have a 1080p TV of course), want a cheapish 4k HDR media system that can play games, interested in the growing list of XB1 exclusives/backwards compatibility games specifically and not overly bothered about native resolution/frame rates in 3rd party games - its a very good deal. The Scorpio is still a tear away so you could wait and miss out on a years worth of content and buy the Scorpio later on. In essence it offers a bit more than the vanilla PS4 from a media PoV but like I said it could very much depend on the Neo and its specs too.

Even though I do have a 4k TV, I am more likely to wait until the Scorpio myself - primarily because I have a XB1 already and therefore can wait that extra year. I am hoping that the Neo will arrive at a similar time point and offer the same 'media' options but because it promises to improve my gaming far more than the Slim will, that will take my money.

Slimmed down consoles with better power effeciency have always come in the cyle of consoles since the early days. Will people who already own an xbox buy the slim probably not but it does hav new features which no slim models in the past have had. I do not own a 4k tv but would still consider buying this I prefer the size of the console to the first generation model and would fit better in the house. It will be inertesting to see when Sony bring out a slim version of PS4 (which i assume they will) if they add a 4k playback for movies or just keep it as a traditional bluray player. I still do not really know what the take up for 4K TV's is. The content for 4k is still very limited in the sense of movies and tv programs and even less for games on any platform

@dryrain: It looks pretty good indeed. By reducing the size considerably, removing the power brick and adding 4K BD player it's a sweet deal for those who don't already have an Xbox One. But, if you want the power beast, wait until 2017-2018 holidays for Scorpio.

Slim model pricing is the following:
2TB: € $ 399 / £ 349
1TB: € $ 349 / £ 299
500GB: € $ 299 / £ 249

I am seriously considering picking one up. If anything for a few exclusives like Rare Replay and Ori and the Blind Forest.

I might rebuy a Xbox One S just for the Forza Horizon series.........such awesome open world racing titles.

The main reason I was debating getting a X-Box was for Scalebound. Now that they have announced it's coming to PC I have no need.

@sub12:
Might be better holding out for the Xbox 'Scorpio' though.

@Gamer83:

I'll probably get the PS4 Neo and pay close attention to the Scorpio................whenever I have more than two systems at the same time, I kind of feel like I'm neglecting both by just focusing on the AAA releases and not really allowing myself to learn all of the small details of a title that multiple playthroughs allow.

With that said, I think I have learned this generation that I prefer the Microsoft exclusive IP's over that of Sony's........with the exception of Naughty Dog titles...........I like Forza and Forza Horizon more than GT, I don't think Sony really has anything that matches the Gear series, as far as action. Sony doesn't really have an exclusive quality FPS like Halo, etc.

@sub12:
I feel like 343 has taken a gigantic sh*t on Halo and ruined my favorite franchise but yeah I can agree with you on the other points. Gears has been my favorite third person shooter since the series debuted in 2006 and Forza rules both sim and arcade racing with an iron fist. MS is a better publisher than given credit for imo.
