Yes I know. Probably not gonna happen. Ever.
But what do you think, maybe at some later time, maybe some kind of Smartphone-Vita-Mashup (I know those have been done to the death since the ill-fate Nokia N-Gage).... oh gosh forgive my ramblings, I just still think there'd be a market for that if they went with the original ideas as posted on this site earlier, like have an HDMI out and SD-Cards would have been the killer. But what about they switch the architecture to something more mainstream (like they did with the PS4) do you think there could be a chance for a successor and if how would you suspect it to be designed to have any chance of success.
Lets dream.

Maybe the selling point would be to have a portable system that you can take on the road with your morpheus headset, assuming morpheus is a success. I think they could build some fan support if they admitted their mistakes with the memory cards and used sd-cards, and basically left everything else the same except more reliable remote play.

@Wesker: @Scollurio: This. The Vita is hands down the best handheld I've owned, and with a few minor tweaks it'd be an absolute juggernaut. Throw a high end 1080p screen and better wi-fi capabilities in to the mix (for Remote Play on par with the Xperia Z3 series of devices) and it'd be perfect!
From 16/08/15 I’m going for sober for six months to raise money for the Princess Alice Hospice. Donations can be made here and anything you can offer is greatly appreciated: https://www.justgiving.com/Stephen-Butler5
@Punished_Boss_84: Then call it something else, but by all means let us hope for another "Sony Handheld". If it would be compatible with Vita and PSP, that'd be the icing on the cake!

Sony: climate "not healthy" for PlayStation Vita successor - due to the dominance of mobile gaming....
I don't find this news - fresh out today - to be sad, in fact we can look forward to Vita support for the next 5 or so years which is great news!!

I don't see another handheld from Sony, they botched the Vita with no games on shelves (only the same 5 games at Best Buy, Walmart and Target all the time, only Gamestop sells a good amount of them) and no advertising, the memory card not being included without getting a bundle was a bad idea too. If you are a parent you aren't going to buy your kid the $200 system plus a $20-50 memory card and there are only 5 games on the shelf at the store, you will probably pick the 3ds or just let them use your tablet and play free games. It's true that mobile gaming did hurt sales especially being you can't compete with free or $5 games. however the 3ds did much better than the Vita so there still is some market for it out there. It's really too bad, however I enjoy jrpgs so I will continue to get use out of mine.
I'm happy with my Vita for the moment, still plenty of games on the way, and quite a few I still plan to buy that are already out. Hopefully Sony release a successor in a few years, fingers crossed. But I see no need to rush. They'll be focused on PS4 & PS VR for the moment anyway.
Maybe, but it would probably go the Nvidia Shield route.
I could see a new android like gaming device that runs a store through PSN, so you have those Vita and PSP titles.........Sony would continue to encourage indies and ports, but no big first or second party offerings from their own part.
I don't think the market for portable tactile control gaming device will ever go away, but outside of the Nintendo realm, it's a niche product. Compared to these Chinese firms, Sony could offer a quality made product that is supported with its own store.
