So here I am, after being focused on PC and 360 for a long while I finally got back to my Nintendo roots with a 3DS, being largely impressed with its lineup from late 2012 onwards. Then I jumped the ship and got a PS3 for The Last Of Us which I love dearly. Totally worth buying a console for. Further down the line I'm happy with the many great exclusives the PS3 has and since I never owned a Sony system before Im not introduced to a whole new world of gaming. I love what I see so far.
Now I was wondering if it is worth picking up a Vita at this point or better to wait for some potential releases. I don't know much about the games on Vita so could anyone please advice me 3-5 games worth having, at least one of them for multiplayer? Please let me know your personal taste.
Another thing, when buying a Vita, what should I get alongside with it? What about those memory cards?
Some pro-advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Top 5 Indies I'd recommend you try: #1 Lovecraft's Untold Stories, #2 Moonlighter, #3 Hotline Miami, #4 Inside, #5 Into the Breach.
There's a pretty strong roster of Vita games right now. I'd cite Gravity Rush, Super Stardust, Persona 4, LittleBigPlanet, and WipEout as all must-owns. Soul Sacrifice may fill your multiplayer request, too.
I would definitely recommend getting a Vita along with a PS+ membership if you don't have one already. I've had mine since launch and have greatly enjoyed it.
There really is no down side to owing a vita, loads of great games, both retail and psn. I own both vita and a 3ds and there as good as each other, but in different ways. There is a listing on ebay.co.uk at the min, for a boxed vita, looks like in great nick, with 43 games and a couple of mem cards. Its worth a look, only £300 at mo.
For the record, I own both a Vita and a 3DS, but I think the 3DS is better. However, the Vita has some great games. My personal 5 favorites are: 1- Persona 4 Golden (great RPG that took me 55 hors to finish, but I would like to revisit it soon) 2- Gravity Rush (Great action/open world/super hero game that is unique and very much fun to play. 3- Sound Shapes (a great platformer that is only for download, but has a fantastic soundtrack and great gameplay). 4- Uncharted: Golden Abyss (Good 3rd person shooter) 5- Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 (because I love fighting games on the go).
If you didn't own a PSP, there are a lot of great PSP games for download, like Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Dissidia Final Fantasy, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, God of War, Person 3 Portable. There are also the PSOne classics that are great. In my opinion, the lineup for this year is a bit weak, with only Killzone Mercenaries and Final Fantasy X HD being on my almost must buy list and Tearway on the may be interesting list. For me, there are still no interesting games announced for the next year. If you can afford, get the 32GB memory card. I have one of 16GB and it filled more quickly than I expected (some games use a lot of memory).
Must have's for your Vita: 32 gb memory stick Sound Shapes Guacamelee Uncharted: Golden Abyss Gravity Rush Super Stardust Delta
Should consider:
NFS: Most Wanted Assassins Creed 3: LIberation Unit 13 Resistance: Burning Skies FIFA Soccer (not FIFA 13, they are the same game) Virtua Tennis 4 Persona 4: The Golden Soul Sacrifice Playstation All Stars LittleBigPlanet Vita Mortal Kombat UMVC3
If you're on a budget or don't wanna spend loads just get the Vita, a memory card and PS+. The console only has a couple of must have exclusives and two of them (Gravity Rush and Uncharted) are free on + while as the console struggles all the best games will come to + to try and encourage more people to buy a Vita. It's a double edged sword for Sony really. Plus as you work through them you can start getting others.
"Oh smeg. What the smegging smegs he smegging done? He's smegging killed me."
Vita. Memory card. PS+. Two of the four must have Vita games are free on there, one has already been given away (Virtue's Last Reward) and Persona 4 will be on there before the year is over. If money is tight or you just don't want to spend too much then that's the perfect way to go.

As a guy who formerly had a Vita and has recently sold it, it does have some great games, but you'll probably be ultimately disappointed. Is it a terrible system? God no, it is built very well and the way everything is laid out on the system is just fantastic, BUT the memory cards are terribly expensive, and there just isn't enough great games, just....ok. Your choice, but I would advice to just keep with what you got, and maybe later down the line, maybe when the game library gets better, consider a Vita if you want, but for right now, I wouldn't advise getting one
It's got a great library of games but Sony hasn't done the best job advertising it and memory card prices suck. I do recommend buying one but at this point I'm going to say hold off for a bit because I can't imagine there not being some kind of price drop in the somewhat near future. Could be memory prices, could be the system or it could be both. The other thing is, if you're planning on getting a PS4... I may say save up for that instead.
I can't imagine a price drop not happening soon. The system hasn't had the sales in needs and there aren't that many games coming in the future exclusive to the system (I'm thinking in the single digits). Just look at all six of the upcoming games coming to Vita according to this site (granted, that definitely doesn't give the full idea of what's coming soon. Where's Ys? Or Valhalla Knights 3? Or all the indie games?)
Frankly, Sony's approach to the system just indicates a price drop. They aren't advertising it, they aren't really showing much support for the system when it comes to them publishing stuff, at least not to the levels Nintendo is doing it at. It's like they've given up on it. I'm not expecting it to get discontinued, but there will be a price drop either for the system or the memory cards this year, mark my words.
And heck, even if there isn't, there's always Black Friday on Amazon.
That's not to say there aren't good games on it; far from it. And then there's the PSP stuff if you never jumped on that system. But considering that it sounds like you *just* got a PS3, how about getting some more games for that first?
Thanks so much for all that much appreciated advice, Ill give it another few weeks seeing if the price is moving, or maybe im waiting until black friday, but this year Im sure Ill get myself a Vita with 3-4 games - all of which i found in your educated advice. Thank you all!
