So today they announced the 2015 Video Game Hall of Fame Inductees which are

Pong
Pac Man
Super Mario Bros
Tetris
Doom
World of Warcraft

Honestly I can say this is a very good list. Each one of those games made a huge contribution to the video game industry. I can't really argue as to why these games don't deserve the recognition they will receive. What are your thoughts?

Like you say, each made a huge contribution to gaming in some way - enough to be copied i some way and even parodied in TV shows too.

Pong was the first video game and also the first video game console
Pac Man became an icon and had a TV show as well as lots of merchandise
Super Mario Bros too as well as the longevity
Tetris is the most played game ever
Doom maybe not the first FPS but less controversial globally than Wolfenstein with its 'Nazis'
World of Warcraft is probably the best known MMO

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

I would go on and say also that

SMB Made video games a marketable form of entertainment in the West again after the Video Game crash of 83.
World of Warcraft Is the most successful MMO
Tetris is just a global phenomenon.
Doom As you said not the first but it put FPS games on the map.

Good list I'd have thrown in Sims and replaced Doom with Wolfenstein 3D.

Yeah Wolfestein was first but it didn't get the recognition that Doom did. Alot of people didn't know about Wolfenstein till after Doom.

@BAMozzy A little off topic but, Pong was not the first video game nor the first home console. In 1962 some college students created the first game on a mainframe called Spacewar, and in the early 70's Nolan Bushnell turned it into the first commercial arcade game called Computer space. A year or so later he made the Arcade Pong. The first home console was the Magnavox Odyssey released in 1972. The first home console version of pong was released in 1975 in japan as TV Tennis Electrotennis and a year later in North America as Pong.

An Interesting fact about Nintendo, They made the light guns for the Odyssey. Their first foray into the video game industry.

Let me rephrase that then...

Pong was the first game to reach mainstream popularity and become a global success. It is also regarded as the one of the most historically important titles and many consider the release of the home version the successful beginning of home video game consoles. It may not have technically been the first but it was the first to go global and first 'sports' arcade game.

I seen this and the first thing that struck me was this;

Who controls the hall of fame?

Are they qualified to make the call?

Why is there a hall of fame?

And where in the bloomin world was streets of rage 2?

Honestly as good as Streets of Rage 2 is it really didn't do anything special. If you want to be honest I would expect Double Dragon to get in before SoR2. By the time SoR came out there were so many brawlers out already. The only reason it came out was cause SNES had exclusives rights to Final Fight.

Lol no need to be sorry. I was just commenting that's all. Even though I agree that SoR2 freakin rocks.

Pushsquare can do an annual hall of fame taking votes. I would say to do it in Feb/March when we a quiet week. Playstation only. Only games over 5 years old or something.
