Today, at a local thrift store I ran into an original gray PlayStation system for $10. Never had this system back in the day, so naturally, as a modern day Sony fan I scooped it up. Only thing is, it was just the system itself. So I don't have a memory card, any of the necessary cords, a controller, or a game for that matter.
As a PS1 newbie, just wondering if any of my accessories for the PS3/PS4 would work and if anyone could point in the the direction of the proper places I could pick up the necessary items to enjoy this console.
Afraid not on the PS3 and PS4 accersories, heck not even PS2 stuff will work on the PS. Best bet is hit up a retro game store in your area, thrift store or ebay.

A PS2 AV cable should work with the Playstation one
Also the PS2 controller works fine with the PS1. Not sure about memory cards sorry.
@zedmayer Yes, any one of the standard AV cables (SCPH-10030 composite this one came with all three consoles or SCPH-10060 s-video) for the PS1, PS2 and PS3 will work as they all have the same AV Multi Out port. You can only use a PS1 memory cards with the PS1 console. Side note, if you are using a PS1 game on a PS2 only a PS1 memory card can be used to save PS1 games.
Any appliance power cord that looks like this one below will work.
The playstation have tons of accessories. The controller of the PS2 should have no problem running on an PSX, but I can be mistaken. The memory cards are not the same from my understanding.
Talking about modding is not allowed here please take it elsewhere. Thanks -Tasuki-
