Crash bandicoot 1 , 2 , 3 & CTR are actually good . I can't think of any other 3D platformer that did it better . Mario 64 maybe ? idk and everyone knows the OG CTR is better than mario kart 64 by a landslide .
Twisted Metal is another great franchise that doesn't get any love despite the gigantic potential it has . What other console brand had car combat ?
Ratchet and Clank of course.
The ( classic ) god of war games .
Playstation had a lot of games , but those are the few i felt like mentioning . don't really feel like listing more , lol .

No offence mate but Crash Bandicoot was never proper 3D.
Now Super Mario 64... that shat all over Crash Twunticoot.

i'll take your word for it , i was too young to even know what proper gameplay was at the time - i have more memory of the recent n sane trilogy than the OG's and even that frustrated me at times.
but did super mario 64 really sh** on all 3 crash games though ? come on now , lol . im intrigued to know.
Crash bandicoot was like a 2d platformer presented in 3D, more like a 2.5D platformer. Bloody brilliant though. While it's part of the same parent genre as Mario 64, the games couldn't be more different and they are both amazing. Crash 1-3 are legitimately some of the best platformers ever made. And Mario 64 is one of the best 3D platformers ever made. Of course that's all my opinion! I do love me a platformer though.
As for greatest PS franchises, it's hard to answer because I did so much gaming on PS1 that I would be naming multiplat games. With that said, my favourites are probably
Crash Bandicoot series
Metal Gear series
Tony Hawk's series
Uncharted series
2.5D design elements are additive in nature when you spruce up the presentation with 3D depth and dynamic camera work, like in the thoroughly decent PS1 platformer Klonoa: Door To Phantomile. Tacking on the limiting aspects of 2D platformers to a fully 3D game, like they did with the Crash Bandicoot games, wasn't an amazing idea. Although, in truth, even if it was a side-scroller, the trilogy would still not be very good.
It's funny, actually. Returning to play Crash Bandicoot: Warped on the PS1 a few years ago was a shocking experience. I distinctly remember enjoying those games as a youngling, but holy hell, it did not age well at all.
Although I still intend to give the trilogy another chance with the N'Sane collection someday.
N64 has one of the worst libraries of all time, while PS1 still has, for my money, one of the best, but Nintendo's console had a very clear edge when it came to 3D platformers. Hell, even Spyro the Dragon, a game I loved back in the day and replayed endlessly, has controls that make it difficult to return to (using shoulder bumpers to change which direction your character is pointing in a 3D platformer sucks).
Anyway:
Silent Hill
Persona
Monster Rancher
Final Fantasy
Metal Gear Solid
I've always preferred the third-party exclusives on Playstation consoles.
@Ralizah Yeah, I kinda hated my time with the first game so it took me ages to get to Crash 2. But then I got massively hooked and got 100% on that game. When I then played Warped a few months later, it just disappointed in comparison.
I’d have to go God of War. My reasons’s being that the games have covered almost all of the PlayStation consoles (only the original PlayStation didn’t get some God of War… and the PlayStation 5 should hear something tomorrow 😉). Almost all of them were received well by the critics and the fans alike (GoW: Ascension is the only outlier in that regard).
The older (pre-2018) games have obviously aged a little but their still really quite playable and epic in scale. The original and the first sequel were probably considered the best PlayStation games available in some quarters at the time… and sold like nobodies business. Then there is God of War 2018… and I don’t think any AAA game has ever been received as positively. I seem to recall it received the most 10 out of 10’s ever from gaming journalists (could be mistaken though)… and the fans were ‘quite’ partial to it too. My personal second favourite game ever… and hands-down the best reboot of all-time.
@colonelkilgore I think in terms of Western-developed AAA, God of War is probably right up there in terms of critical acclaim with Rockstar games. Although if I remember correctly, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is the highest rated Western game on Metacritic!
@colonelkilgore If you go to metacritic and sort by the highest-rated games of all time, GoW2018 is #72 on the list. Although there's a lot of multi-platform repeats padding out that list.
Top of the list is dominated by Rockstar and Nintendo games, with a few others like Tony Hawk 2 slipped in there for good measure.
While it's not AAA (honestly, the Nintendo ones probably technically aren't, either), the highest Playstation 4 exclusive on the list is Persona 5 Royal.
Interestingly, Open Critic has GoW way higher, in the top 5, and other games like Tony Hawk 2 nowhere close to the top 10.
@colonelkilgore@Ralizah I usually prefer Glitchwave for these things as it’s totally user-based and the cream rises to the top. Only problem for me is that DLC have their own entry which can slightly push full games to the side. Plus Bloodborne’s number one 😂
