If anyone is interested in PT, well you can play it in Dreams and it supports VR as well.
A livestream showing it in action, pretty impressive. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RhuSFA9-JWs
I’m very tempted to break schedule-protocol and play Silent Hill 2 Remake at release. Just watched one of the first reviews that have popped up on YouTube and there’s something about it that appeals to me more than all the other horror ip for some reason.
@colonelkilgore if you wind up playing SH2 remake I’m curious in your thoughts. Will wind up opting out from that game due budgetary reasons and other stuff.

@colonelkilgore I feel like this has been discussed somewhere and that I should know unequivocally the answer, but… there’s no real disadvantage to playing Silent Hill 2 without having the played Silent Hill 1, correct? (Honestly, I think I played both 1&2 a long time ago but I can’t be sure and I remember nothing about them… other that a lot of fog)
@CaptD I missed out on PT before it was pulled from PS4, but I did play the Dreams version a couple years ago. It’s an impressive creation in the context of someone making it with a DualShock controller in the Dreams app, but if I’m honest, I was a little disappointed in P.T. itself. I had heard all these grand things about it being one of the best horror experiences ever and it was…. fine? Is the Dreams version every bit as good as the OG?

@Th3solution yeah I think it was @Jimmer-jammer who stated that the narratives are not connected… apart from the location. Still, the ocd part of me would’ve preferred that they remaster the original first 😅
@Th3solution no you can play each SH stand alone without an issue!
Think of it like resident evil but even more disconnected

@colonelkilgore@Th3solution There are some light lore bits that carry over but none of it has any real bearing on James’ story. Beyond that, it has a very unique vibe, not just within the horror genre but within the series itself. It’s very much its own thing, if you will.
I suppose it’s fairly obvious then that this will be my October game. The original is an all timer for me, I really couldn’t be more excited for this. Once things die down a bit for me personally after next weekend, I’ll be devouring this thing! I’d love to hear your thoughts if you guys end up playing.

@Yousef-@Jimmer-jammer@colonelkilgore I am pretty sure I played the first game on the PS1, and I think I played another one — whether it was SH2 or SH3 or one of the other offshoots, I can’t be sure. I remember zombie nurses. They were very impressive to a young lad. Other than that and the deceptive use of fog to hide the hardware limitations of the time, it’s all a vague mess in my brain. Unfortunately there was an impression at the time that it was a lesser Resident Evil wannabe.

@Th3solution the fog is part of the atmosphere. When SH2 was ported to PS360, which had more powerful hardware and thus didn’t need the fog, the removal of the fog did a lot more harm than good. Whether incidental or otherwise, it’s a critical part of its artistic merit.

after the pushsquare review - silent hill 2 remake. i never played silent hill before (besides the P.T. demo) so im looking forward to it & i hope its actually scary because i wanna be spooked
@Th3solution I think both games have zombie nurses in them. In the third game you play as a teenage girl. For me the Silent Hill games were the more effective horror games compared to the Resident Evil games, which felt more action orientated and hammy.

@JohnnyShoulder Ah, I see. The more I think about it and read about this Remake, I’m fairly sure now that I never played SH2 and probably only played SH1. I have absolutely no memory of Pyramid Head and apparently that’s an iconic part of SH2.
Chances are I’ll really like SH2 since I enjoyed RE1-3 more than RE4 (although I’ve yet to played the RE4 Remake) when things started getting really action-ey.
I’ll try to avoid the temptation to buy SH2 Remake since I do want to play RE4 and Dead Space Remakes first. What a great thing to have a whole slew of 9’s and 10’s to choose from in the survival horror category.

My backlog of horror, horror adjacent, and zombie games to play is just ballooning —
Days Gone; RE4R, 5, 6, 7, 8; Alan Wake 1&2; TWD4; Callisto Protocol; Dark Pictures Anthology; Dead Space; and now SH2. Add to that I want to do a replay of TLoU P1 in its remake form too.
I count 16 games. 😅 The good thing is most horror games tend to be in the short side, by modern standards, 10-20 hrs. So it’s not quite like having 16 RPGs in the backlog (although I’m sure I have that many of those too… 😆)

@Th3solution RE4 is better played through and out of the backlog since it’s only 16 hours ish and won’t take that long. Dead space remake is a bit meaty going by my friend’s remarks.
The RE games are probably not great binged. Breaks are preferred.
By the time you’re a quarterway through these 16 titles, SH2 would likely go on sale.

@Th3solution Yeah I will hopefuly play the Dead Space remake soon, but had had the same intentions with Calisto Protocol last year and I never did.
This breaks my rule of not playing a remake or remastered game i've already completed the og version of. The closest were Dark Souls and FFVII, but I had never completed them originally.
