@KratosMD So the BULK of the content, the main racing and tracks aspect, is all available on WiiU and has been ported to Switch. The DLC may well be added in from the start with this version but its STILL all ported from the WiiU
If you are looking for a revelatory upgrade over the graphics from the WiiU version, you are in for a disappointment. Shadows, texture maps etc are all identical and no anti-aliasing either. From Eurogamers review - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Switch's port of the 2014 Wii U game, inherits a pretty spectacular package. This bundles together all 48 tracks - including those in the two DLC packs.
Battle-mode has been overhauled and no longer an afterthought but it still has 'revivals' from older Mario Kart games. I am NOT denying that its the 'ultimate' Mario Kart 8 game overall. If the Racing is all you are interested in, you don't get much of an upgrade from the WiiU and DLC content if any at all. Its by far the best hand-held version of any Mario Kart but at its heart - its still just a port of the WiiU version with a better battle-mode than the previous game. Mario Kart 8 was arguably the best game on WiiU and the Deluxe version is the definitive version but the majority of it is just a port of the WiiU with a higher resolution in 'docked' mode.

There's plenty of big PS4 games that are probably more worthy of your time IMO, especially as you've invested in a PS4 Pro and 4K TV. Horizon is a good choice. I will be getting a Switch to play the likes of Zelda at some point in the future when I have a quiet spell with my PS4.
I've played a bit of Zelda, it was just "okay" if I'm honest. I'd have to play more of it. It's the kind of game you need to sink big hours into.
@KratosMD The 'identical' part was referring to the visuals rather than the content and if you read my post properly, it came just after I was talking about how the game stacked up against the WiiU version from that perspective - and apart from the resolution increase - it is identical - no real tweaks - unlike games like Skyrim for example which is also a port this gen but had a lot more attention put on the presentation as well as the increase to resolution. Instead of getting defensive over a few words, read the whole thing and it should make more sense.
Of course everyone, I though, knew it had a revised Battle mode which obviously isn't going to compare directly to the WiiU version as it was poor but the point I was making is that the 'bulk' of the experience is the same as the WiiU version visually identical too! If you own the WiiU version and/or all the DLC, it maybe difficult to justify buying a Switch for what is essentially, the majority of the content. Battlemode was always just a 'novelty' bonus MP mode where as the racing is what Mario Kart is known for. Racing is also the part that people will play on their own and spend the bulk of their time in. Nintendo could have spent a bit more time on the visuals - adding in some AA solution, adding in a bit more detail to the backgrounds etc on the courses as well but they didn't so racing is essentially identical to the WiiU version with a better battle-mode.
Having a few 'extra' characters makes no difference - you only have about 3 different types anyway - the small, lightweight class, the medium class and the Heavy class. Doesn't matter if you play as Mario or Luigi as both are the same - different colour and vocals but still the same. and these few extras will just be more of the same. Most people have their favourite from each class anyway. Its not like a Racing game where a new car can have significantly different characteristics from other cars in its 'class'.
@kyleforrester87 It's probably Because Im starved of good racing games and Zelda is meant to be marvelous. With having the ps1 it's been a good laugh and I'm quite tempted to play GC games in pseudo HD if it comes to the Virtual console.
@KratosMD haha nice, I shouldn't doubt Nintendo tbh. Im a big Mario fan and was initially a touch disillusioned. But since GameCube it's been mainstream devices with Okayish games. With 2 blockbusters out of the blocks I'm pretty tempted.

This isn't true at all, there's 9 weights and car customisation to optimize for each track.
I'm not for one minute saying it has the customisation of forza or gt but for a kart racing arcade game its pretty in depth.

@themcnoisy I guess the least you could do is wait till E3. It's less than two months away after all. But yeah, if you didn't own a Wii U before, the line up is great so far. If you did, it doesn't really get interesting until Odyssey later this year.
@Octane good idea, I will wait it out until E3 and see what new games are heading to switch.

Question - anyone here tried licking a Switch cartridge to see if they taste as bad as reported? I am asking as I got my first cartridge yesterday delivered to work (all digital previously) and first thing I did was see how bad it tasted.
I had assumed that everyone with a Switch would be curious and give it a go but, turns out, no one I work with who has one has even contemplated it. They thought I was mad so I am throwing it out as question. When someone tells you not to do something stupid, who here would try it? I couldn't resist.
Now I may be an idiot, but there's one thing I am not sir, and that sir, is an idiot
Maybe its just me but I am VERY particular about what I put in my mouth and even if someone said a Switch cartridge tasted great, I would have no desire to test that out myself. The last time I tried doing something like this was when I was a child and it was the 9v Battery on the tongue...

@themcnoisy I've put my Switch on eBay as it looks like it'd be gathering dust for quite some time as I don't see anything in the release schedule that I fancy until Mario at Xmas.
Zelda was a big disappointment for me, it's a good game but it didn't feel like I was playing a Zelda game, it just seemed to be another open world game with too much of the traditional Zelda gameplay having been removed. I certainly wouldn't put it up there with the best in the series and there have been quite a few games this year I've enjoyed more.On the other hand Mario Kart 8 was fantastic on the Wii U and I've played it to death and would highly recommend it if you do jump on board, especially if you have a few friends to play against whilst Bomberman R is possibly the worst game I've bought in the last few years.
It's a good console (a few minor annoyances aside) but for me there isn't any games that are gonna keep me interested in it for the time being and basically none which can't be experienced on other consoles. I'll probably jump on board again next year when the games are there, just at this moment I have far too many on PS4 with that number likely to increase throughout the year.
Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.
@carlos82 funny that, I've just bought one for my son's biffday. I never had a wii u so mk and splatoon will be getting bought for me. I mean er him.

@Tasuki I can't say I agree, mainly because it has no dungeons (I'm not counting them as they're far too short) and the lack of progression in your tool set as you essentially have everything you need at the very beginning. With some actual dungeons and a half decent story (I was so disappointed in that regard) it'd be up there with my favourite games ever as the world is genuinely brilliant, other gripes being the lack of music and being given a Master Sword but having it taken off me like a naughty boy because I used it. I'm in no way saying it's a bad game because that'd be silly but I have so many fond memories of the likes of Link to the past, Ocarina, Majoras Mask and Windwaker whether it be the music or specific scenes but have almost none of this game except Kass because he's amazing

Was never really that keen on Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U, yeah it was a good game but the battle mode was awful and the character list was utter rubbish, thankfully Deluxe has remedied that.

Agreed. I don't actually know if it was the Wii U itself, or if it was also partly the game, but I was disappointed enough when I played Mario Kart 8 back in 2014 that I sold off my Wii U to fund an Xbox One purchase. Fast forward three years and I'm having a blast playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. In fact, I can see why many have said it's the best in the series, it's definitely up there for me with the DS, Wii and SNES entries.
Try MK Double Dash!!, a way better game. MK8 is still my favourite though. I used to like MK64 too, but that game is almost unplayable by today's standards.
