@Fight_Teza_Fight I get what you are saying but I am hopefull enough switches will be sold to ensure there are plenty of original third party experiences on the machine. At the end of the day I'm likely to do most of my multi platform release gaming on my most powerful system.

@KratosMD Portable Nintendo consoles ALWAYS get remodels, so it seems like a pretty safe bet to me.

Thing is, I don't think it'll matter too much with regard to third party support. There's only so much tech you can pack into a portable console before it... well, stops being an easily portable console. A more powerful Switch will still not measure up to what the next-gen PS and Xbox consoles are capable of, which means it won't get a lot of the AAA games those do. Which isn't a huge problem. All a Nintendo console really needs to be successful is good first-party support and consistent Japanese third-party support. Western AAAs are nice, but they're hardly going to save the system with their presence or doom it with their absence.

I could well see an upgraded Switch in the future in the manner of the now in vogue mid gen refresh They've already moved to enable system transfers and have a ready made chip with the Tegra x2, or even the Xavier which launches nest year making the upgrade relatively cheap for Nintendo to make. Doom has shown that it's not a million miles away from running AAA games at lower settings but does need that extra boost to get them in the future

Older than I care to remember but have been gaming since owning a wooden Atari 2600 and played pretty much everything inbetween.

@carlos82 Thing is if Nintendo release an upgrade for the Switch like the Pro and X with the purpose of maintaining third party support as graphics move beyond the current capabilities of the Switch it's highly likely the Switch "basic" will be left unable to play these advanced games, which would go against Sony and MS's mid-gen policy in that it does not fragment the install base. That said, Nintendo have done it before with games made only for the New 3DS. If they can't maintain playability across all Switch models I don't think it's a very smart move, not least because the install base of this Switch Pro would become a fraction of the overall Switch numbers in people's homes decreasing publisher/developer interest to bother releasing games for it anyway. And then, if the Switch Basic CAN play these games to a good standard the Switch Pro would be attempting to solve a problem that doesn't really exist.

@kyleforrester87 I see what you're saying but they have previous with the 3DS, those chips I referred to aren't that far ahead in raw power (at least the x2) so I think games could still play on both, certainly Indies and first party games always would but gives that little extra oomph for games that need it. It should also be a while before games move out of reach for Switch as both the Pro and X will anchor games development to the current generation for sometime yet. I've possibly not explained it very well but it would have to be a similar model in that all games would have to run on both

@carlos82 I hear you, but the difference between "Switch Pro" and Xbox X and PS4 Pro is the former would be born out of the requirement to ensure games are ported in a playable state to the Nintendo machine. If that becomes a requirement, original Switch owners get left behind.

Where as the X and Pro exist to push new technology, the Switch Pro would be existing just to keep up.

...'the stuttering got so bad at one point that it gave this reviewer motion sickness, as the delayed camera controls conspired with the wildly fluctuating frame rate to create a deeply unpleasant visual experience'.

Bummed out. I was really looking forward to picking this up on Switch. Didn't even mind paying the Switch Tax.
I do think RiME will end up eventually on PS+ so I might just hold off or get it when it's <£5.

@kyleforrester87 Really? The game doesn't look too demanding so I'm surprised the Pro struggles. Still intrigued, so I'll wait till it hits the bargain bin.

@Fight_Teza_Fight Yeah, the game has issues on vanilla PS4 as well, but it's nowhere near as bad as the Switch version based on what I've seen. It's an ''alright'' game I think, so waiting for a price drop is a good idea!

Got my Switch in last night!

I won't be able to get my first retail game until my next paycheck (so next weekend), but so far I've played one half of the Octopath Travelver demo, and am currently downloading the Dragon Quest Heroes I&II demo.

May try seeing if I may be able to buy Shantae, though (it's actually one of my most wanted games on the system, lol).

PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@RR529 Octopath Traveler's demo is lovely, but that DQ Heroes demo is... really rough. SE didn't do a good job of optimizing the game for the platform, so the gameplay is incredibly rough.

Shantae is OK. My least favorite game in the series, but I seem to be largely alone in that opinion. I think the colorful HD art will really pop on the Switch's vibrant display.

What games are you looking to get otherwise?

@Ralizah, I'll definitely get both Mario & Zelda (one of which will probably be my first retail game), but I'm also really excited for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 & Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and may get Fire Emblem Warriors & Knights of Azure 2 down the line, depending on how things go.

@Octane, I've heard nothing but good things about it, so maybe I'll get around to it one day.

@kyleforrester87 you should try venturing over to NintendoLife. They have a really active community over there and quite a few of them are knowledgeable and passionate.

kyleforrester87

@Wesker Yeah I read the site pretty regularly and have done for quite a while now since I have a 3ds. I'll probably start posting one of these days given how much I'm enjoying my Switch..

@kyleforrester87 yeah, during the Wii hay days, I loved it. At least a few people in the community were hyped for every single release, big or small.

Tasuki

So I decided to get Rocket League on the Switch even though I have it on PS4 for the following reasons

1)Support the devs cause honestly they are one of the best studios around l, seriously places like EA and Activision can learn a thing or two from them

2) Will be able to by with a few of my friends who have it on Xbox One.

Anyone play it on the Switch who has played it on the PS4? I am wondering how they compare.
