@JohnnyShoulder Considering its not even an official console yet, I would take that as nothing more than a rumour, an educated guess at best. I think I said $300 as an educated guess. Its supposed to have a 4TF GPU which is obviously less than a PS4 Pro numerically - although DF did show that a 4.2TF RDNA PC GPU can match an Xbox One X, which correlates to the ~50% gains of newer GPU's. Its essentially an Xbox One X with newer hardware and a much better CPU so $300 isn't an unreasonable guesstimate...

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

@BAMozzy Yeah I don't put much stock into leaks and rumours. It makes me think what is the point as is it only a slight improvement over the X (not Series X). It would certainly make the X redundant.

@JohnnyShoulder
Ok thanks. I put mask and PPE on to come into this xbox thread.
Checked the link. No I dont believe any 'leak' about the consoles prices. That's literally the last thing we ll learn and the companies may not even know yet themselves.

The crowd, accepting this immediately, assumed the anti-Eurasian posters and banners everywhere were the result of acts of sabotage by agents of Goldstein and ripped them from the walls.

JohnnyShoulder

@JJ2 Ha ha you can never be too careful lol.

@JohnnyShoulder The point is that the X has an old and weak CPU where as the new 'S' would have the same CPU as the Series X. That means the Series S could offer the same frame rates - albeit at lower resolutions. At some point, regardless of how powerful the X is, the CPU will be inadequate for modern games but the Series S wouldn't have those issues

@BAMozzy honestly now a days with how tight things are getting for people if they did release a console at $300 even if it was technically inferior it would probably sell really well because most people wouldn't care about the power if it's still playing the same games

most people will go for the cheaper option if they can

"I pity you. You just don't get it at all...there's not a thing I don't cherish!"

"Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!

JohnnyShoulder

@FullbringIchigo Yeah defo the casual/general consumer will usually go for the cheaper model to put under the Xmas tree. Even If it is true, I don't think we will see it at the same time as the SX.

@FullbringIchigo Maybe, maybe not - at least there could be a choice for some. I think it really depends on the person though. If its purely price, then MS would sweep up with the Series S being potentially $100 cheaper than a PS5 and still have the ability to play the majority of games as well as MS's exclusives. They could wait for PS5 to drop in price and have enough exclusives they want to play before buying. All the multi-platform releases will be on Xbox so its only the PS5 exclusives that they could wait for...

I don't think the world is anywhere near as tight as it was back in 2012/13 when there was a Global financial crises. Analysts were predicting that consoles wouldn't survive because people wouldn't spend $400+ on leisure activities when things were so tough - I am certain that influenced MS/Sony's build and why they went cheap on CPU and 'bigger' on GPU to make games 'look' next gen. Of course Coronovirus could have a big impact but equally, that could be virtually over in a few months. The SARS outbreak lasted around 6mths so we could be coming out the other side of this outbreak in a couple of months.

Consoles could also benefit as people stop socialising in real life and invest in home entertainment instead. According to an IGN poll, 70% of people have a 4k TV or are planning on getting one for next gen consoles.

Having access to a game is only part of the equation. Being able to play the game at the best is important to some too and helped Sony this gen. MS may have messed up E3 2013 but by the time the console released, almost everything had been addressed - the final thing, Kinect, was removed a few months later making the Xbox cheaper than PS4. Its been clear that the PS4 was more powerful which translated to better visuals and sometimes even better performance. Even with B/C and MS turning things around, the PS4 still sells more. Consoles like the Pro and X also prove that people will pay more for better hardware even though they do not offer any game that cannot be played on a base console. People spend money on PC upgrades too for better visuals/performance.

People are different and have different situations. I doubt many kids have 4k TV's in their bedroom and rely on birthday's/Christmas to get a new console so parents may well buy the Series S if its the most affordable next gen option and of course, not everyone plays 'enough' hours to justify spending a lot on a console. If its just about access though, people won't buy an Xbox Series S or X for at least a year or two and could just buy an Xbox S (or that digital S as that's even cheaper) and still play all (or the majority) of games released. But some gamers want better performance and the benefits that upgrading will offer - like loading times etc.

Personally, I am not interested in a Series S - although can see the benefits to my Son. I will get the Series X and a PS5 (or at least want to but who knows what may happen between now and then) because I want my games to play and look their best on consoles. I bought a Pro and X too despite owning the base hardware and they didn't offer unique software...

Yakuza 0 is now on Game Pass for both Xbox and PC. Means I can now mod it on PC to make every character Kuze.

My question with the rumoured graphically inferior Xbox is: Can a game designed for a 12 Tflop GPU be scaled down to a 4 Tflop GPU simply by reducing the resolution to 1/4 of the original without further develop input?

My understanding was that some visual effects are graphically demanding independent of the resolution they are render at and therefore may not work properly on the system who graphics don’t meet the minimum requirement. I played half life two on a laptop who graphics didn’t meet the minimum requirement and whilst it ran the flashlight animation didn’t work which made navigating through dark areas problematic.

Well, Xbox has been cheaper countless times this generation. It didn't matter. If they can't get better exclusives and give more reasons for customers to buy an Xbox they'll keep buying PS $100 or not.

@KratosMD I say yes only because it is such a fantastic game. If you have access to it, it is a must play.

@BAMozzy you're one of the biggest voices for XBOX on this site, if anyone can get traction on PureXBOX being back it's probably you

@KratosMD i do and it looks like i was wrong

still it's nice to have a dedicated place to talk about XBOX but it's going to be up to everyone who frequents this forum to help make it a success

@KratosMD Dunno if you managed to find the answer, but I did come across this:

Moon Studios is keeping a tight lid on the story for now. All we know is you'll "unravel Ori's destiny", and that you'll venture beyond the forest of Nibel—the titular setting of the original game. The devs have also repeatedly promised an emotional story like the original's, so keep a pack of tissues nearby.

Hope that helps! But I really do recommend you play the first game.

@FullbringIchigo Biggest or most frequent voice LOL. I am very pleased to see Pure Xbox back!!

From my perspective, I don't have any allegiance to either Sony or MS consoles - I am a gamer first and foremost and both have their strengths and weaknesses, both have their own unique software and despite Sony's significantly higher volume of exclusives over the course of this generation, I have roughly equal number of 'exclusives' on both platforms.

It may seem that I am perhaps more defensive over MS here on a site dedicated to Playstation, but that is often because Fanboys take unnecessary digs or making false accusations at Xbox but if the same occurred on PureXbox I would be equally as vocal in defence of Sony - and was in the past. Its funny when you get called a 'fanboy' or 'troll' on both sites because of it.

To be honest, I think the biggest way to spread the news of the return of Pure Xbox would be via the sister sites making an article and getting their reviews mentioned by publishers. If an advert on TV shows a review score from PureXbox, that is much more likely to reach more people than I can by sharing articles etc on my social media sites. I rarely use Social Media myself. If I notice anyone in the comments of articles talking about owning Xbox, I will of course mention that Pure Xbox is back - especially if I don't recognise the name.

It was such a shame to see PureXbox go but glad its back. Hopefully people here will see this thread and come over. As I own both systems and will (hopefully) own both next gen systems too, I will be on both. At least I won't be posting GwG every month here anymore...
