Can you play used and pre-owned games on PS5? Many of you will be eager to know if the PlayStation 5 will prevent you from playing second-hand software. As part of our PS5 guide, we’re going to clear up any confusion concerning used games, but for more information check out our list of All PS5 Announced Games and New PS5 Game Release Dates in 2022.
Can PS5 Play Used and Pre-Owned Games?
PS5 can play used and pre-owned games, meaning you can purchase second-hand software and enjoy it on your PlayStation 5. You’ll also be able to borrow games off friends. The caveat is that you’ll only be able to play used games on a PS5 with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, as the PS5 Digital Edition does not include this feature. You can find out more about the differences between the two models through the following link: PS5 Digital Edition vs PS5: What's the Difference?
Free PS4 to PS5 upgrades will also work on pre-owned purchases, but you’ll need to have the game’s Blu-ray disc inserted in your console in order to play the games. I swap games with friends and some from cex.
all 3 people concerned about gamesharing being removed
I'm definitely planning on buying both new and used ps5 games and also using my backwards compatible ps4 game collection on my ps5. I currently use a combination of mostly physical discs and some digital games. I am old school, as I love the physical discs.
The problem is that there's still no ps5s available for me to buy and I'm not going to buy one from a scalper.
