If you're just getting started with our Hitman 3 guide, then you may be looking for a few tips and tricks for beginners to get you started. Below you'll find a list of general suggestions to help ease you into Agent 47's world of assassination.

Observe Your Surroundings

Hitman games can be overwhelming at first, but the only way to improve is to pay attention to your surroundings. Take time to explore the layout, and understand what type of disguises will help you to reach your target destination. Make mental notes of key items, like Emetic Rat Poisons and crowbars, and follow key NPCs so you learn their patterns. Do they stop to take a drink at any point in their cycle? Well, that's a good opportunity to poison them. All the clues you need to succeed in the game are in the level, you just need to take the time to properly digest everything that's going on.

Play the Mission Stories

There are some professional players who will frown upon the Mission Stories in modern Hitman games, but IO Interactive added them for a reason. These little guided storylines have two purposes: to demonstrate the potential of the level, to reveal an assassination opportunity, and to help you reach a previously inaccessible area. There's nothing wrong with playing them a few times to help get your bearings, and to gain a greater appreciation for the level. Keep in mind that the game also features plenty of "unguided" stories as well, so pay attention to the intel you collect and the things NPCs are talking about, as they usually serve as clues.

Save Frequently

If you're playing on Casual or Professional difficulty — which, frankly, you probably should be at first — then you can make as many saves as you like. While some may frown on this strategy, it can be a good way to learn the levels, as you can create as many checkpoints as you like and reload when you make mistake. This helps to alleviate the repetition, and gives you an opportunity to experiment without the fear of having to start over should something go wrong. Once you get to Master difficulty, you'll only have one save slot so will need to play cleanly. We'd recommend practicing on Casual, honing your skills on Professional, and then finally taking all you've learned to test yourself on Master.

Don't Be Afraid to Restart or Replan

While we recommend saving frequently in case you make a mistake, there are times where restarting missions makes sense. While it may seem like a waste of progress, if a mission's going badly then sometimes it's best to take heed of what you've learned and try again. Remember, the game gives you the option to replan your mission as well, so if you've realised that you'd benefit from having a lockpick or poison on your person, then tweak your loadout and get back out onto the field. There's no shame in starting a stage over, and you'll almost certainly find that your second attempt will go better thanks to the knowledge you've picked up along the way.

Consider Your Loadout

Once you've got an understanding of the levels, you can start to design your loadout around what you're trying to achieve. If you know you're going to need to use a poison at some point, why not bring it into the field with you to save you from having to find one in the map? Are you going for a Sniper Assassin challenge? Then either stash your favourite sniper rifle in the level, or bring it with you in your briefcase. There's an old adage you may have heard before: fail to prepare, prepare to fail. This applies perfectly to the Hitman games.

Look for Distraction Opportunities

Oftentimes, when you want to assume the disguise of a particular NPC, you'll find distractions in the world. These may come in the form of electronic panels you can disable or radios you can turn on, and they're extremely useful when you want to isolate a particular person from the crowd — or simply pass by them undetected. Remember, you can use your instinct vision to highlight objects like this in the world, and if you really can't see an opportunity to create a diversion, then consider throwing something like a coin or soda can to get the results you want.
