Horizon Forbidden West: What Are Shelters?

A Shelter in Horizon Forbidden West is like a glorified Campfire. Each Shelter has a Campfire, but it offers you more than just a save point. At a Shelter, you can also progress time by sitting on the stool, access your Stash, or upgrade your gear at a Workbench.

Horizon Forbidden West: All Shelter Locations

Below is a list of all the Shelter locations in Horizon Forbidden West, organised by region. The order of our list is simply the order in which we found them.

The Daunt

The Daunt is the area of the game you reach after the opening credits but before you reach the Forbidden West itself.

Shelter #1

This Shelter is in the northeast of the map, just north of Crimson Narrows. From the first Campfire, you need to head northeast, around the cliffs, and into the area with the aforementioned mine.

No Man's Land

No Man's Land is the area you reach after completing the Main Quest, The Embassy. This is the first region of the Forbidden West.

Shelter #2

This Shelter is located just to the east of Plainsong, a major settlement in No Man's Land. You can also find it by heading north of Tallneck: Cinnabar Sands.

Shelter #3

This Shelter is also pretty close to Plainsong, located to the south among the rocky region.

Shelter #4

Further south you will find this Shelter, located just north of Rebel Outpost: Jagged Deep.

Shelter #5

This Shelter is found up in the north of No Man's Land, northeast of Hunting Grounds: Plainsong and southwest of Riverhymn.

Tenakth Clan Lands

The Tenakth Clan Lands is the next portion of the map you reach after completing the Interlude, The Eye of the Earth.

Shelter #6

This Shelter is the first you'll find in this region of the map, located just southwest of The Base.

Shelter #7

This Shelter is located north of Scalding Spear, at a crossing point between the desert and a greener area.

Shelter #8

This Shelter can be found to the north of Salvage Contractor: The Greenswell.

Shelter #9

This Shelter is found between Tallneck: Salt Bite and Salt Bite itself, nearby a large lake.

Shelter #10

This Shelter is a short journey to the northwest of Scalding Spear.

Shelter #11

This Shelter can be found underneath a Horus machine, to the northwest of Scalding Spear and to the east of Relic Ruins: Runner's Wild.

Shelter #12

To the east of Sheerside Climb, and to the south of Relic Ruins: Runner's Wild, you'll find this Shelter.

Shelter #13

This Shelter is found to the southwest of Sheerside Climb on a snowy mountain.

Shelter #14

This Shelter is found northeast of The Bulwark.

Shelter #15

This Shelter is located just east of The Memorial Grove.

Shelter #16

This Shelter can be found to the south of Tallneck: The Shining Wastes.

Shelter #17

This Shelter is just south of Shelter #16 and west of Vista Point: The Stillsands.

Shelter #18

A little to the west of Camp Nowhere, you will find this Shelter.

Shelter #19

This Shelter is found in between Rebel Outpost: Stillsands West and Salvage Contractor: The Stillsands.

Shelter #20

This Shelter is in the very south of the Stillsands area. You'll find it by heading south from Hidden Ember.

Shelter #21

This Shelter is south of Tallneck: The Stillsands and is nearby a Rockbreaker Site.

The Lowlands

This part of the map, which leads to the western coast and is mostly covered in jungle, is reached during the course of Main Quest, Seeds of the Past.

Shelter #22

This Shelter is located just southwest of The Greenhouse, on the beach.

Shelter #23

This Shelter is found to the south of Lowland's Path, right next to an Acid Bristleback Site.

Shelter #24

This Shelter is found to the southwest of Rebel Outpost: Raintrace East and northeast of an Acid Bristleback Site.

Shelter #25

This Shelter is just to the north of Rebel Outpost: Raintrace East.

Shelter #26

This Shelter can be found north of Hunting Grounds: The Raintrace and west of Rebel Outpost: Raintrace North.

Shelter #27

This Shelter is along the mountain path, north of Raintrace Rise.

Shelter #28

This Shelter can be found just to the south of Cliffwatch.

Shelter #29

This Shelter is located northwest of The Bulwark, not far from a Charger Mount Site.

Shelter #30

This Shelter is to the west of Shelter #29.

Shelter #31

This Shelter can be found just to the northeast of Cauldron: KAPPA.

Shelter #32

This Shelter is located on a mountain trail to the northeast of The Greenhouse.

Shelter #33

This Shelter is found to the east of The Greenhouse and north of Tallneck: The Stand of the Sentinels.

Shelter #34

This Shelter is found to the southeast of Tide's Reach.

Shelter #35

This Shelter can be found in the southwestern corner of this region of the map, west of Thornmarsh.

Isle of Spires

This is the westernmost part of the game's map — an island where you'll find the ruins of San Francisco. You'll get here during the Main Quest, Faro's Tomb.

Shelter #36

This Shelter is located at the beach, north of Tallneck: Landfall.

Shelter #37

This Shelter is found west of Relic Ruins: Isle of Spires, just to the north of a Fire Fanghorn Site.

Shelter #38

This Shelter is found on the smaller northwestern island.
