What Carries Over to New Game+ In Metaphor: ReFantazio?

New Game+ lets you start a fresh playthrough with much of your progress from your previous playthrough intact. It's a great way to tackle harder difficulties, or to simply experience the game again.

This is what carries over into New Game+:

  • All of your money
  • All of your MAG
  • All of your Kingly Virtues progress (Courage, Wisdom, Tolerance, Eloquence, Imagination): This means that you'll have a lot more free time in New Game+, as you won't need to raise your Virtues as much, or at all, depending on their Ranks
  • All of your items (not including key story items)
  • Any Gold Beetles that you didn't trade in on your first playthrough (meaning that you can acquire more than 49 beetles in New Game+)
  • All of your equipment
  • All of your Follower Bond items: These are key items that are given to you by Followers upon reaching their maximum Bond Rank, providing permanent stat boosts when channeling their Archetype
  • Archetype progress, including each Archetype's Rank (level) and unlocked skills
  • All Archetype stat bonuses from having mastered an Archetype
  • Your total playtime (shown on your save file)

What's New In New Game+ In Metaphor: ReFantazio?

Firstly, New Game+ gives you access to Regicide — the game's hardest difficulty setting. Regicide makes battles incredibly punishing, while lessening the amount of experience and money that you earn from combat.

Secondly, there's a new super boss that's only available to fight in New Game+. You cannot fight it on the Storyteller difficulty setting, so be sure to start New Game+ on Easy, Normal, Hard, or Regicide if you wish to fight this enemy.

It can be fought as soon as you gain access to Akademia — you just need to inspect the red book, the Book of the Apocalypse, which has been moved from its pedestal. In your previous playthrough, you may have noticed that the book was chained up in a corner of the room.

However, this boss should only be fought once you're near the end of the game, and your characters are suitably strong at level 70 and above.

New Game+ does not increase enemy levels, or make the game harder in any way outside of your selected difficulty. As such, using endgame equipment in New Game+ can make your playthrough much, much easier than intended.

More specifically, using endgame weapons will allow you to kill most of the game's enemies in one hit via action combat. If you want to experience turn-based battles again on New Game+, it's recommended that you equip less powerful weapons.
