How do you solve the Chained Box puzzle in Silent Hill 2? In the Otherworld version of Brookhaven Hospital, this grand puzzle will have you searching the building's depths for clues and combinations. In this Silent Hill 2 guide, we are going to reveal how to solve the Chained Box puzzle.

How Do You Solve the Chained Box Puzzle in Silent Hill 2?

After the fight with the Flesh Lip in Brookhaven Hospital, you'll be transported to the Otherworld version of the building. On floor 2F, next to the Nurses's Station, you'll find the Chained Box. It's locked tight with a combination lock, a keypad, and a separate keyhole. You must now explore this version of Brookhaven Hospital to find a key, the Combination Lock code, and the Keypad code. Below you'll find how to solve the Chained Box Puzzle in the main story order intended by the game.

Chained Box Puzzle: Where to Find the Lapis Eye Key

To get the Lapis Eye Key for the central lock on the Chained Box, you need to explore the left-hand side of floor 2F. There's a stairwell you can take up to floor 3F, which will guide you into Exam Room 4 where a mannequin is sat on a Surgical Chair. Use the Instrument of Force placed next to the mannequin on it, then follow the corridor around to the north outside wall of Room D2. You can break open a hole in the wall and pass through into Room D1, where a ladder lets you climb down into the Kitchen on floor 1F.

Down here, work your way through the Storage area and Medical Records to find another gap in the wall you can slip through. In a hole in the wall in this room, you'll find the Key of Bliss. Take the ladder in the Kitchen back up to floor 3F, then return to the Surgical Chair and use the Key of Bliss on the mannequin. Doing so gives you the Lapis Eye Key, which can be used on the keyhole built into the Chained Box.

Chained Box Puzzle: How to Get the Combination Lock Code

From the Chained Box, head south through the Restroom and use the metal cart inside to climb through into Room L1. Follow the corridor around into Room M3, where a breakable wall can be torn down to access Room M2. In here, there's a Memo called the Calendar Page you'll need.

The Calendar Page reads as follows:

1 year they've been watching me
So many pills they fed me
When a loud hour comes
I tremble every time the light falls

The Memo gives us the first number: 1. Then, if you interact with the sink, you'll notice there are 6 pills. When you interact with the clock, it sounds an alarm as it's turned to 2. Finally, the light flickers 2 times. This will give us the Combination Lock code:

Chained Box Puzzle: How to Get the Keypad Code

Opposite the Director's Office on floor 2F is a piece of breakable wall, which grants you access into the Laundry Room and then Room L2. In here, push the cupboard on the north wall to one side and then slide the metal cart out and place it underneath the high crawlspace that lets you access Room L3. Head into the Observation Room from here and grab the Director's Office Key.

Return to the Director's Office and unlock it, climb the ladder in the middle to reach floor 3F, and most specifically a Treatment Stretcher in Room 17. Follow the red wire through the corridor to another gap in the wall you can squeeze through. Power up the Generator in here, then return to the Treatment Stretcher and power it up. The following solution, which is the Keypad code, lights up:
