How Do You Solve the Coin Cabinet Puzzle in Silent Hill 2?

The Coin Cabinet is found inside the Wood Side Apartments, more specifically in the backroom of the office area on 1F, opposite the main entrance. As you explore the Wood Side Apartments, you'll discover Coins, detailed below. These are used to solve riddles in the Coin Cabinet, and you'll cycle through 4 before you get your reward. The Apartment 201 Key is what you get for solving the Coin Cabinet puzzle. Coin Cabinet Puzzle: Where to Find the Man Coin

Coin Cabinet Puzzle: Where to Find the Woman Coin

Your first sighting of the Woman Coin will come as you notice it stuck at the top of the garbage chute, from a washing room on floor 2F. You can't do anything about it for now, but take note of its position. Eventually, you'll earn the 2F Small Staircase Key, which allows you to reach floor 3F. Follow the route through the rooms still under construction until you get to Room 310. Inside, use the balcony to cross into Room 312, then use the crawlspace in the left-hand room to access a second washing room.

Pick up the Canned Juice and use it on the garbage chute in there. This dislodges the Woman Coin down below, and now you can return to the courtyard on floor 1F to pick up the Woman Coin. Coin Cabinet Puzzle: Where to Find the Snake Coin

Having picked up the Woman Coin, return to the northern stairwell you came down previously and head down the left-hand corridor into Room 116. In here you'll meet Eddie, and after the cutscene, you'll be facing an open window looking out over a pool area. Climb through, defeat the 5 enemies there, and interact with the red baby cot/stroller in the pool to get the Snake Coin.

All Coin Cabinet Riddle Solutions

Now you have the 3 Coins, return to the Coin Cabinet on floor 1F in the office area and insert them into the contraption. To solve this puzzle, you must place the 3 Coins in the correct positions, in relation to the riddle presented to you. Note: you can also flip the Coins over to reveal a sunflower, gravestone, and sword hilt. These will also be required.

The first riddle reads as follows:

Three bright coins in the five holes be,
first sits the Maiden underneath the tree.

The wind from behind the Maiden doth blow,
a beautiful Flower alone has to grow.

And here comes the Man, so sleek and so fine,
in the pale moonlight his eyes doth shine.

This gives us the following solution to the first riddle:

• Silver Man in the left-most hole
• Gold Woman in the very middle
• Bronze Sunflower in the right-most hole

Very important: The puzzle will now cycle into a second riddle, but do not move the Coin pieces. The riddles follow on from one another, and relate directly to the current positions of the Coins as they were placed in the previous riddle. If you move the pieces before you're sure of the solution, you make the puzzle a lot harder for yourself.

The second riddle reads as follows:

The man doth approach, his Blade now revealed,
his face disappears behind shining steel.

Away from the man doth the Maiden flee,
towards the Flower, away from the tree.

This gives us the following solution to the second riddle:

• Silver Man in the hole second from the left, flipped over to reveal the sword
• Gold Woman in the hole second from the right
• Bronze Sunflower in the right-most hole

The third riddle reads as follows:

Where once grew a Flower, a venemous glee,
where once a Maiden, but a stone doth be.

And over her Grave the Main doth remain,
his blade never met the vile Serpent's vein.

This gives us the following solution to the third riddle:

• Silver Man in the middle hole
• Gold Gravestone in the second hole from the right
• Bronze Snake in the right-most hole

The fourth riddle reads as follows:

The Beast who its teeth in her flesh doth bore,
He who has failed, She who is no more.

Now unto you falls a grievous chore,
who carries the blame for what fate had in store?

For this final riddle, it's actually asking you a question rather than demanding you place the Coins in specific positions: who do you think is to blame for the woman's death? Is it the man, herself, or the snake? There's no wrong answer here, so you can put whichever Coin you like in the top hole. Doing so rewards you with the Apartment 201 Key and the Coin Cabinet puzzle is complete.
