Here's a list of every boss in Spyro 1, complete with information on how to defeat them. Each world contains one boss fight to contend with:
Toasty (Artisans Boss)
Any Spyro veteran will remember Toasty, the giant, pumpkin-headed scarecrow found in the level of the same name. The scythe-wielding figure appears just after you free a dragon, standing behind two sleeping dogs. Defeat these dogs by hitting them twice each with fire, then torch Toasty himself. He'll run off to the next area, where you'll need to repeat the process of flaming the two dogs and then Toasty. After the second hit, his outfit will fall, revealing he's merely a sheep on stilts. Finish the fight by defeating a few more dogs before flaming Toasty one last time. As the first boss in the game, Toasty's pretty easy.
Doctor Shemp (Peacekeepers Boss)
A large creature wearing armour (and sunglasses), Doctor Shemp puts up a tougher fight than Toasty. After freeing a dragon, make your way up to the platform and dodge the attack from his staff. The tactic here is to use Spyro's flame attack on Doctor Shemp's back, which is unprotected. Hit him once and he'll scoot off to another platform. Follow him and, once again, dodge his attacks and get around to the back of him to light him up once more. Repeat this for a third time, and he'll be a goner.
Blowhard (Magic Crafters Boss)
This strange boss is a wizard with a whirlwind body who uses lightning to attack Spyro. Make your way through the level until you spot him, then let loose some fire before he can summon any lightning. He'll dash off, as with the previous bosses, so follow him through the tunnel, not forgetting to grab any gems and kill any other enemies along the way. Eventually you'll find him again, so flame him while dodging any lightning bolts. Follow the level around to your last face off with Blowhard — one more flame attack will finish him off.
Metalhead (Beast Makers Boss)
If you couldn't guess by the name, Metalhead is the toughest boss fight yet. Make your way through the level as normal. You'll know you're about to fight him as a dragon you rescue will let you know. Enter the room and destroy all the energy pylons while avoiding his attacks. Don't touch them while they're glowing red, or you'll take damage. Once you've done this, he'll run off, of course, so follow him through to the second area and repeat the process. As soon as all the pylons are destroyed, Metalhead will be defeated.
Jacques (Dream Weavers Boss)
Jacques is a jack-in-the-box style boss with a spring body. He'll throw boxes at you, so avoid those as you chase him down and breathe fire at him. He'll continually run away as you get close, so keep up with him and keep flaming. Three hits is all it will take, so Jacques shouldn't give you too much trouble.
Gnasty Gnorc (Gnasty's World Boss)
This is the big one. The final boss of the game is the main villain of Spyro 1, Gnasty Gnorc. Unlike the other boss levels, the fight against this guy will begin immediately, so be on your guard. He'll shoot beams at you, but you're unable to reach him straight away. First, you need to chase down a thief who holds a key. Once you do, go back to Gnasty Gnorc's chamber and find a door on the right. The key will unlock it to reveal a second thief holding another key. Once you have this key, go over to the boss himself and the platform will lower, allowing you to climb up to him.
As is tradition, he'll run away, so give chase, being careful not to fall off the sides of the narrow winding paths. Eventually he'll stop at a platform — use your flame attack on him. He'll then scarper once more, so again, follow after him, navigating the tricky jumps and glides. Once you reach him, flame him again to put an end to Gnasty Gnorc.
