Glad they are not releasing all at once. While I do like to binge sometimes, it just far less social and doesn't let each episode stand on it's own. It's better to discuss after each episode.
All aboard the hype train!
Just wait a bit and then binge watch on Now!
I always hold back on the shows I want to watch until all of the seasons episodes are available… but I’ve already come to the conclusion that I won’t be doing that in this case.
Much like Game of Thrones before it, I won’t be able to wait for this one and will have to watch each episode as it airs.
Mad thing is that my parents and work colleagues (all of which have no interest in gaming) have got in touch with me about the show.
The production value of this show seems so big. I hope it’s as good as it looks. Can’t wait!
Removed - current gen piracy/emulation
Now TV is absolutely dog *****. Making you pay extra to watch in hd in 2023. What a joke. And don’t even get me started on the ui or the bit rate. I hate to say it but looks like I’ll be sailing the high seas.
"stream the last of us on NowTv in 720p for £13 a month....now, come on now.
I’ll be watching it on sky, fingers crossed it’s in 4K HDR
"If you're in the United Kingdom, you can watch The Last of Us on Sky Atlantic (I don't have Sky) and NOW TV"
To me this is like saying "if you're in the UK you can buy gold wrapped in excrement"
Yeah, I think I'll just not
Removed - current gen piracy/emulation
I'll be watcing it when it gets a home media release. Don't have Sky and I'd rather enjoy it at its best than to be streaming it on NowTV
Yep, NowTV is pathetic. £10 for 720p and an extra £5 on top of that if you want a whopping 1080p!
The deal between HBO and Sky expires in 2025, hopefully it doesn't get renewed and the UK can have HBO max like the rest of the world in time for season 2 of TLOU.
If HBO/WB continue with their standard release practices then the 4K blu-ray will be out by June. I'm going to wait for that. I'm certainly not forking out for bloody NOW TV.
Like most PlayStation fans, I cannot wait to watch the TV adaptation of The Last of Us…
*Checks has Sky Atlantic!
[EDIT] Doesn’t have Sky Atlantic… BUGGER!
Although I do not like the principles of NOW: Pay extra for HD, the regular pricing etc. It's actually a pretty good service once you get in.
for example, I'm currently paying £1 for Cinema, £2.99 for Entertainment package and £2 for boost. But with upscaling on my TV's the boost isn't even that important, it helps being able to watch on multiple devices and cutting adverts out though.
Pretty much watched everything I want on Cinema so that'll get cancelled, but Entertainment package for TLoU at that price is hard to argue with to be fair.
Just make sure you get your trials if you've not yet done so, and get on their system, or look for deals on the site and sub to a service and they will then email you all kinds of other deals, pretty generously/frequently too
I'll just be playing the games. Let the non gamers watch the show. I'm sure they'll enjoy it without the hassle of having to press buttons on a silly game controller or needing any skill.
I just hope the pirate version of this is better than the pirate version of Game Of Thrones. There weren't any pirates in it for ages
I'll be watching it on HBO Max. I'm assuming it will be 4K HDR or Dolby Atmos. Either way, it will look good on my LG C1.
Why do we in the UK get useless ways to watch this show.
Sky Atlantic doesn't do 4k. And has anyone actually seen NOW TV.
For the standard subscription you only get 480p on everything. But you can an extra fee and get a boost (which is what its called) and have your shows in 1080p. Yes us in the UK are living in the 1990s it seems.
I'm actually very angry about this. Its an utter joke.
@Pikki It should be available on Crave, with the extra $9.99 HBO upgrade. I watched Game of Thrones that way, so I assume The Last of Us will stream there.
Which is unfortunate, since Crave is probably the worst streaming service in Canada, at least in terms of picture and audio quality. I watched Doctor Who recently, and it wasn’t too bad, but when I watched The Batman I could barely see anything thanks to the horrible pixelization on anything black - which was 90% of that movie.
Removed - unconstructive; user is banned
@themightyant not only that, there’s also less chance of spoilers if you have a whole week to watch the latest episode.
@Bez87 Game or Thrones is available in UHD on Sky so assume The Last of Us will be the same? Or is their UHD not 4K?
Will be watching it but I'll sure has heck not be giving my money to Sly.
I'll be watching the show. Unless after a few episodes it totally loses my interest, I don't mind tuning in once weekly for an hour. I have faith in the actors to hold the show up.
@Enigk once its been put on the main sky box streaming service. Not Sky Atlantic Channel. Or their attempt at the stand alone service they made Now tv, which is a rubbish attempt.
Basically charge as much as netflix and amazon but only give you 720p or standard def on some stuff as standard and you have to pay more money for them to provide you with a 1080p image but you can also get 5.1 surround sound if you pay extra. No UHD unless you actually have sky TV box.
Utter rubbish for the UK here.
Don't know if this is going to be a hit or not, can usually tell after episode 1. Hopefully though it's not a flop like the halo TV series. The witcher series has set the bar to beat for game based TV shows.
Liam- do you know when the review embargo is up?
@Zombie9ers I've read at midnight PT tonight, but we weren't included in any pre-release screenings so I don't know for sure.
@UltimateOtaku91, was there a halo TV series ? Was it that bad I never heard of it at all,
The witcher season 1 was great, S2 kinda dragged on,
Usually hbo high budget tv shows are really good, ( boardwalk empire, got, westworld, deadwoodist goes on)
So.i have some confidence in the last of us tv series
@LN78 nice to see I'm not the only one hoping and waiting for a physical 4K bluray release. Can never be bothered paying for all these multiple streaming sites every month when 95% of their content I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Youtube is miles better and it's free with weird and wonderful unique content every day albeit with ads but not a problem when it's free
@Beerheadgamer82 YouTube is the only subscription fee I actually pay regularly. I hate adverts.
@LiamCroft thanks!
Just an FYI for the UK folk complaining about your streaming services - Netflix in the US charges extra for UHD 4K, now $19.99m. So we’re only paying $14.99 for 1080p. So it’s not just you.
Whether I watch Sunday night or not may depend on if the Ravens have their starting QB back or not. Though after the Giant game maybe I’ll need an NFL break for 85 minutes, then watch the 4th qtr. Depending on how I like it rest may be waiting. Not skipping the SuperBowl to watch live, that episode can wait until after the game, even if I do decide to watch week to week and not wait to binge.
@LN78 true but I'm so used to these youtube adverts by now that it's totally worth it paying nothing. I have considered paying to get the adverts off cause that is also worth it but I just like how it's free and so easy accessible for everyone for free. I just mute the 15 or 20 sec ads such a small annoyance considering all the content is free
@LiamCroft Why do you have the start time listed as 6:30 and 9:30 when everything I’ve read says 6:00 and 9:00?
https://www.hbo.com/schedule?focusId=726744
@Beerheadgamer82 They throw in their music service as well - it's a decent enough alternative to Spotify. I should probably highlight that I REALLY hate adverts, though.🤣.
@Uromastryx yeah halo had a series last year, got quite a bit of hate due to master chief being in a sex scene and showing his face lol
https://m.imdb.com/title/tt2934286/
@LN78 yh I hear you lol
Yawn this is not the last of us its a wana be.
Gonna have to hold off on watching until I actually play these games. They're next on my list after Horizon Zero Dawn.
@rjejr to be fair, Netflix in the UK charges extra for HD streaming too. There are 3 levels, although I guess there's 4 now:
1 - basic with adverts (cheapest)
2 - basic without adverts (only 1 device at a time)
3 - HD (2 devices at a time)
4 - UHD (more devices - 3? 4? not sure)
I imagine these are the exact same tiers you have in the US - these guys have just forgotten about it, or something
Possibly because Netflix generally has a very wide variety of stuff on it, whereas most people (who don't have Sky already!) usually only want Now TV for the things that are specifically on there
@LiamCroft For the UK they always show them the same as it launches in the US so 1st showing of it in the UK is 2am on Monday 16th Sky Atlantic.
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk nope Sky Atlantic is an HD only channel not 4K, you would only get it if they also provide a separate UHD version to download separately like they do with Sky Cinema.
They didn't do that for House the Dragon so.
@danlk1ng Thanks for the info, that does sound like the US tiers. I just read so many comments about companies charging extra for HD like it’s something extraordinary but it really isn’t. I agree it should be behind us tho, 1 price should cover. And anything with ads should be free. 🤑
Just realese all episode at the same time.
We have internet now, we dont have to wait for the next tuesday c.mon.
Have noticed last year or so that some miniseries only have 8 episodes.
Thats perfect !!
Not for TLOU but you know...
I think i put in 20 hours in the first game, the first time.
So 20 episodes with the start of s.2 in 2024, please tell me im dreaming.....
Please let this not be Lost or Sopranos all over again beacuse.........!..!
Holy crap have you seen the last bit of info : the infection will not be spread by spores, but by tendrils?!
WTH! Really? That doesn't make any kind of sense (because fungus), and takes out a lot of the tension that comes with the way the infection spreads.
I'm getting even more skeptical as the release gets closer and closer...
https://collider.com/the-last-of-us-cordyceps-infection-explained-neil-druckmann-craig-mazin-comments/
@rjejr As @danlk1ng says, Netflix UK has tiered subs -
Basic with adverts*: £ 4.99/month & 1 device at a time in HD (720p)
Basic: £ 6.99/month & 1 device at a time (720p)
Standard: £ 10.99/month & 2 devices at a time (1080p)
Premium: £ 15.99/month & 4 devices at a time (4K)
Now is very overpriced for what it is (it is Sky after all!) but I could probably stump up for 1 months sub when all episodes are available and then cancel it afterwards.
@InvaderJim I watched house of dragon in UHD HDR it was a separate download that came out the day after it aired. The problem is not all Sky Q boxes handle HDR so you’ve got to have a specific model to watch it
I found reference to 4k, no mention of the HDR aspect
https://pressroom.warnermedia.com/us/media-release/hbo-original-drama-series-last-us-debuts-january-15?language_content_entity=en
I shall be watching via torrent. I don't have the money to spend on something I'm only watching one series on. Plus I'm cheap
Like Game Of Thrones, House Of The Dragon and most big HBO shows, Sky Atlantic will air the show at the same time in the US at 2am Monday morning in the UK. Check your tv guides I know I’m not wrong!
Yeh, like others here, im not giving any of my cash to the ripoff merchants that are Sky. Now TV is crazy expensive in comparison to other streaming services, and lower quality to boot. Then sky locks its service behind a paywall, justifying ita obscene cost behind the need for a top box or a tv (glass) just give us an app already and reduce your prices...bloody pirates
@danlk1ng
I’ve not watched TV in years, so wholeheartedly concur.
@Olmaz
Perhaps this is simply a matter of aesthetics? In reality the spores would not be visible. Interiors thick with clouds of dust particles would likely be the way to show them. Maybe it was decided that this proved not to be particularly threatening, or strong enough visually. There may well be other practical means why this decision was made.
@Vacuumator Apparently not an aesthetic decision :
"Mazin explained. "For instance, little things like the spores. In the game, there are these where you encounter spores and you need to put a gas mask on. In the world that we're creating, if we put spores in the air, it would be pretty clear that they would spread around everywhere and everybody would have to wear a mask all the time and probably everybody would be completely infected by that point. So, we challenged ourselves to come up with an interesting new way for the fungus to spread but mostly I think we just connected with the soul and spirit of the game."
Little things indeed... [facepalm]
https://comicbook.com/tv-shows/news/the-last-of-us-spores-changed-games-tv-show-adaptation/
@sanderson72 "stump up for 1 months sub when all episodes are available and then cancel it afterwards"
That's usually the way we do things but w/ my kid home from college for the holidays we currently have HBO Max for $1.99m for 3 months, 1 month of Netflix my kid signed up for, not the $20 4k version, Amazon Prime, Paramount+, a week of Showtime and Hulu Live TV.
Unfortunately our 3 months of HBO at $1.99 will run out late Feb, so I'll have to sign up for another month of HBO to watch the last 2 or 3 eps. Which doesn't seem worth it for $15. And I'm still mad at them they dropped Westworld just when I signed up, my wife and I still need to watch season 4. And it was there show. 🤬
Sky TV has the rights here in NZ.
In Australia it is on:
Binge
Foxtel via Fox Showcase
Foxtel Now.
Just for the last of us Aussies.
@themightyant
HBO is adamant about keeping their episode releases weekly. The CEO made it clear they do not want to follow the "Netflix" release model.
Removed - current gen piracy/emulation
@Olmaz post #59 oh wow! My interest has gone from 10 to a 4 with this one quote...
This is were the ole fire stick shines
@danlk1ng
As an American who has Hbomax and can luckily watch it in 4K, it really pisses me off that Europeans are just inherently getting an inferior streaming experience just because of where you live. Is it not possible to just access it via VPN?
Never played the game but have bought the new remasters version - should I watch the Tv show first or play the game first - literally no idea about it as have avoided spoilers
Can't wait! Right into Mando season 3 once these episodes wrap up, Pedro Pascal fans are feasting this season
Did anyone else read that interview that the show version will make some big changes from the game story and will "challenge" fans?
They just couldn't help themselves.
@PegasusActual93
They get the Mac and cheese with no artificial dye so I say we're about even.
I'm sure my favorite Shady streaming website will have this... 😉
@GreatAuk
That is officially the most random reply I have ever gotten.
I'll be watching the series weekly with my Mom, looking forward to seeing her reaction to certain moments.
@Bez87 It hits Sky live at 2am and then you can download it after that in 4k.
Without deals Sky, NOW TV and their terrible Sky Glass are not good value. I'll be cancelling after my current deal runs out, conveniently after The Last of Us finishes, unless they give me another stupidly good deal.
Yeah I'll watch it via sky. Luckily I got a decent deal for £11pm, so that's good. But.. I would say avoid the HDR option on sky, with House of dragon it was shockingly blue.
@Palleon that's a tough one. The show will be following the same story but expanding on certain things. Also some story elements have also changed. (Like how infection spreads) i don't think it will matter too much if I'm honest. I genuinely think the game will be better irregardless.
We got rid of our cable boxes yet the big boys still figured out how to nickle and dime us. Never fails.
I'll buy it on Prime if it reviews well. Did the same with HOT D and Chernobyl so I don't have to touch Now TV. HBO TV shows usually show up on there the day after the last episode airs.
Yeah! HBOMAX it is then!
@rjejr Westworld was a case of diminishing returns - I think I endured season 3 (one was excellent and two was good enough) and didn't know (or perhaps, care) there was a 4th? Apparently there should have been a fifth and final season but it was canned by HBO.
Will pick up hbo max for a month when season is finished and binge. Looking forward to it.
@sanderson72 We - my wife and I - hated season 2 but liked season 3 enough we were looking forward to 4. We had read 5 was cancelled and 4 was being dropped off the service at some point we just didn’t think it would happen so soon after release, thought it would be years down the road. Streaming is still in it’s stupid infancy phase I guess.
At this point we’ve basically given up on the idea of “cord cutting” and have just accepted paying $75m for Hulu Live w/ Disney+ as the “new” cable and we’ll pay for a month here or there of NF or HBO as needed. Oh and we paid for a student year of Amazon Prime for my college kid that we watch on. It is all getting to be more than cable ever was. 🤑
@Enigk I dont have sky, I have virgin for the fast internet, thats why the hbo sky deal is awful and I'm raging hahaha because the only way I can watch it is by getting now tv and their streaming service is 1080p max for a shocking price deal or no deal. I may have to just wait until it is released fully and then use the 7day free trail to watch it. As its being released weekly. Maybe one day hbo max comes to the UK.
@rjejr I'm in agreement with you. As good as streaming is, all companies are bringing their own out and each one costs and looking at my streaming subs, its basically more than cable ever was. Streaming Will only be truly the only way to go when they band together and create one or at least pockets not each studio having a sub.
@Bez87 Eventually Disney will just buy every entertainment company and Disney+ will have everything for $300 a month. 😂
@rjejr Good then ill pay that hahahaha. To be fair to disney, their streaming service is one of the best I've used, whatever can be 4k is 4k, we also get the Imax versions of films and the layout is top notch, on par with netflix, followed by amazon for its content but amazon layout is god awful to find things esp when its mixed in with the pay or rent content. All 10 times better than the now tv
Every time I open Now TV to watch a football/NFL/NBA game, or a film I see a giant poster of Joel and Ellie that spans further than the width of the app, with a countdown to the shows air date 😁😁 there's a trailer in every add break, there's also huge posters plastered around the UK.
The hype is building
Also, I'll say it again, NOW streaming with your TV upscaling it... hardly noticeable that it's not 4K native. Sure, no HDR, but the image at viewing distance on a good 4K TV is fine. It's worth trying out of you're unsure whether it will look crap or not 😄
Canada has Crave, which has like 90% overlap with the HBO Max catalogue, including brand new shows like TLOU. You might want to consult the wikipedia page for HBO/HBO Max if you care to actually make a proper list.
Lol I'll wait til its all on sly plus it
@Vacuumator i read it was because if it was spread by spores the spores would get everywhere. You’d need a gas mask 24/7.
@Bez87 I'd say my main complaint w/ Disney+, which is the same complaint I have with most of these streaming services, is they let you add stuff to watch to a "List" but then it's always difficult to find the list. List should always be the first row on top AND have a button. 😝 And you're correct about Amazon just having everything together so you can't tell what's included w/ Prime, what can be rented or bought, what you need to sign up to Showtime to watch. It's too confusing.
Think I'll be happy in a couple of months after I've finished my current list then I can just go back to watching baseball and gaming, let all the new shows sit around until next year. Though I do need to see Witcher 3, which isn't dated yet but do. As is Foundation season 2 (Apple TV+) and Wheel of Time season 2. The only thing worse than the streaming service apps is the way these shows come out willy nilly. I'm old. Like old old. I grew up on tv. I need regularly scheduled seasons. (What you'd call "Series".) If it takes a year to make 8 or 10 episodes so be it, but come out every Oct or March, not just whenever. That's the worst for me, the not knowing.
Let's just hope we get Pedro from Game of Thrones and not Pedro from WW84
A little disappointed that it’s not going to be complete until mid March. That feels like a long time away. I prefer the option to binge a show if I want to, even though most shows take me a while to get through. If the quality of this one is as good as we’re hearing, then waiting a week between episodes might be hard.
In Bulgaria the first episode is in theaters too.
@ILikeStake you are going to get the Chernobyl production team so you are safe lol
Let's go bois, I'm ready.
@sjbsixpack
As with many fictional diseases, transmissibility would be far more likely inside, in a contained area, with little or no ventilation. Outside, it would be highly unlikely that the virus would spread, therefore there would be absolutely no need for masks to be worn - to do so would prove to be pointless. This is under the presumption that CO 2 is at a non-harmful level, which of course it would be.
Coming to Prime Video for France
@Bez87 it's a joke mate arrrrrrgh pirate I go
I'll be watching it on Plex.
@Vacuumator it’s not a fictional disease, Cordyceps is real. It only infects insects tho. And of coarse the spores would get everywhere. If there’s a gas leak it spreads everywhere, spores would do the same. The wind would blow them for miles.
@sjbsixpack
I’m aware it’s real. I was jesting with some heavily-veiled satire.
In Greece its on Vodafone TV, i'm subscriber to way too many subscription services right now though, dont want to add one more.
Ive been with sky 24 years at this point (diamond vip member if you believe the marketting bs!)
This is one of the times im grateful I am, and I cant wait to see them do justice to a story that means a lot to me.
Im a little concerned that its undoubted success will mean they must consider making no 2. I personally loved no 2 as well and thought it was brilliantly concieved and written, but have to acknowledge that the narritive around that story became very toxic, partially due to anti-woke protestations, and also due to those who dont want there stories to explore the depths that that tale does.
This one however was almost universally loved and it will be fantastic to see it brought to life!
@colonelkilgore it's going to be one of the biggest series in a long while. The interest on the trailers is insane. The 97% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and slew of 5/5 ratings has added fuel to the hype.
@Bez87 yes we're living in the dark ages here. This is why the 8K TV market has collapsed. There's barely any 4K content in the grand scheme of things it's pitiful, let alone 8K.
@Bez87 honestly if I can't watch it in ultra hd, I would pirate it. I'm in the US so I'll be watching it on HBO max
I'll listen to call me chato or the critical drinker on this show. Gears of war I hope it follows the original trilogy not the latest mess.
My fellow United Kingdom friends, I hope y’all have a great way to watch. I didn’t even know HBO Max wasn’t available there. I wonder why.
Removed - current gen piracy/emulation
So glad this is coming to South Africa's Showmax streaming service.
In South Africa we can watch it on m net, so exited been playing since the first ps3 game
@danlk1ng your right that Netflix charges with different tiers. But no matter what tier you get. You get the entire catalogue of Netflix and let's just state we go for 4k at 15.99 a month.
This includes multiple devices at once, all shows in 4k. We have the choice of films and TV series.
Anazon aswel have great selection of films and TV series, most in 4k. if you opt in for all benefits of amazon and pay a year fee itonly works out at 7.92 a month. Or monthly payment of 8.99.
Disney Plus with star (uk)
All of disneys great titles for the kids all marvel and star wars content. Some great shows and series on the star part of the app and more adult shows, pretty much all are in 4k dolby atmos, and on new films we get Imax versions for even better picture. All this for 7.99 a month or pay one off and get it for 79.90.
All very good choices.
Then we get to NOW TV. Split into sections, but movies are normally the latest from the sky cinema and series are good But for comparison we do entertainment and movies. The deal at the moment is for 6months we can get it for 15 a month then it goes up to 19.99. This gives you content at 720p and only on one device and 0 surround sound. You can pay any extra 5 and get most shows and films in 1080p with 5.1 surround sound.
So conclusion is even though now tv is more expensive you still don't get anywhere near the picture and sound quality of either of those 3 or the fact amazon offers all its services for that low price
So for the rest of us to be stuck on this service and only people paying for full sky, then us in the UK who don't want to pay the outrageous prices for sky, we are getting a rubbish deal.
I would rather it be released on amazon and I pay for the series for 4k
I won't comment it all again but thats what we arenup against to watch the last of us here. Not worth it.
The Last of Us’s premise is eerily similar to the tv show Z Nation. Hopefully it’s better than Z Nation.
Bit fed up of the HBO stuff in the UK always being on Sky or Now TV. Two things I will never pay money for. So looks like I’ll be waiting for 2nd hand DVDs in a few years’ time, or other means….
@Bez87 I’ve never subscribed to NOW TV before so I was going to wait until all 9 episodes have released then subscribe for the 30 day free trial, watch all the episodes then cancel but if what your saying is true about only getting 720p with no surround sound unless we paid extra then I’d rather wait until I can watch it in 4K with surround sound on a different service one day.
@Bez87 If you want to watch something special just subcribe for a month and watch and unsubcribe. For me i have HBO and and Netflix that's enough.
@Bez87 Streaming 4K isn't that fantastic either but it's good enough the best way still is a disc though but that's to expensive in the. So I'll only buy the best movies I love.
@MaccaMUFC ive never subscribed always seen the adverts and the now tv boxes you can buy and yea 100% true. I dont have sky myself so knew it probably would be on now tv, so went to go see how much it will cost and saw what quality your paying for and couldn't actually believe it. The more shocking thing is paying for a boost which is only giving you a boost to 1080p hahaha. Considering we have now had 1080p as standard for more than 10 years. Its an insult to charge extra.
@Flaming_Kaiser this is true and probably could get a 30day free trial and wait for the full season to drop but at 1080p, its just the principle really.

Very true 4K streaming isn't picture perfect and disc is the best but it isn't far off and with a wired connection and high speed Internet its nearly there and convenient.
@Bez87 I'll probably rather pay i dont need to do much effort and i dont mind to pay for something i like. I just don't have the money to stay subscribed to everything its just to much.
@Flaming_Kaiser ive ended up being naughty and downloaded kodi and just streaming it for free at 720p instead of paying now tv
@Bez87 I'll pay for stuff I want to see it's not that much. I just look what I want to watch a small fee to watch a complete series isn't such a big issue.
@Flaming_Kaiser I'm not sure what you class as a small fee.
The only deal for now tv right now is 15.99 instead of 19.99 for 6months but don't worry you get the 1080p boost for free for 7days. To me that isn't much of a deal.
That to me isn't a small fee. Not until the series has finished and you binge watch within 7days.
@Bez87 I pay 6,99 for it here in the Netherlands that we got after it launched with a 50% discount for life as long as you stay subscribed. But watching a complete series for €20 is still a steal, if its a great show.
