Looking for how to get Master Tapes in Zenless Zone Zero? Master Tapes are the secondary gacha currency in HoYoverse's urban fantasy RPG, which can be used on Stable Signal Searches, the game's permanent banner. They should not be confused with Encrypted Master Tapes, which can be used on time-limited banners instead. On this page, as part of our Zenless Zone Zero guide, we're going to explain how to get Master Tapes.
What Are Master Tapes in Zenless Zone Zero?
- Master Tapes operate similarly to Acquaint Fates in Genshin Impact and Star Rail Passes in Honkai: Star Rail
Master Tapes are the secondary gacha currency in Zenless Zone Zero, as they're the resource used to pull on permanent characters. They should not be confused with their more colourful counter-part Encrypted Master Tapes, as these have more value due to their ability to be used for time-limited S-Rank Characters and S-Rank W-Engines.
What Do Master Tapes Do in Zenless Zone Zero?
Master Tapes can be used to pull on the following channels:
- Stable Channel for permanent S-Rank Characters
A pull or draw is known as a Signal Search in Zenless Zone Zero. It costs one Master Tape to perform one Signal Search. You'll receive one item for each Signal Search, as per the rates outlined when pressing R3.
While the contents of the Stable Channel will get updated over the course of the game's lifespan, the pool of available characters will not change unless communicated by developer HoYoverse. This means you'll be able to permanently unlock all of the Agents included within it.
How Do You Get Master Tapes in Zenless Zone Zero?
Master Tapes can be purchased from the Signal Shop with the following currencies:
They can also be unlocked in the following ways:
- Increasing your Inter-Knot Level
- Advancing the New Eridu City Fund
- Earning Trial Rewards from the Compendium
Inter-Knot Level
As you progress through the game, you'll increase your Inter-Knot Level, which represents the overall level of your account. While you won't earn Master Tapes at every tier, some levels reward you with the gacha currency. You can find out How to Increase Inter-Knot Level through the link.
New Eridu City Fund
The New Eridu City Fund is Zenless Zone Zero's battle pass, which rewards you with free and premium items for each tier you advance. A total of 5 Master Tapes can be earned for reaching Level 50, and these can be claimed for free without purchasing the Growth Plan.
Trial Rewards
Access the Compendium by pressing L2 and Cross/X and you'll find Primers, which are tasks designed to familiarise yourself with the game. For each five Primers you complete, you'll earn Trial Rewards, which include a Master Tape.
How Much Do Encrypted Master Tapes Cost in Zenless Zone Zero?
Master Tapes command the following costs in the Signal Shop:
- Polychrome: 160
- Residual Signal: 20
- Fading Signal: 90
Is It Best to Spend Polychrome on Encrypted Master Tapes or Master Tapes in Zenless Zone Zero?
- Polychrome should always be spent on Encrypted Master Tapes
There's no situation where we'd recommend spending your Polychrome on Master Tapes. This is because, despite having the same cost, Encrypted Master Tapes can be used on time-limited banners, where Master Tapes can only be used on the permanent banner.
As a result, there's no urgency with Master Tapes, as characters from the Stable Channel will always be available and you'll unlock plenty over time through normal gameplay. You will be able to pick an S-Rank Character after 300 pulls, but there's no time limit attached to this.
