If you’re a PlayStation 3-only owner, your addiction to the Mass Effect franchise probably started with the second game. After all, the original title was published by Microsoft as an Xbox 360 exclusive way back in 2007 – but now it’s finally coming to the PlayStation 3.
The Mass Effect Trilogy will launch at some point in the near future, and will include all three titles from the popular sci-fi series. Assuming you already own the second and third games on PS3, you’ll be able to pick up the original as a standalone title from the PlayStation Network. We suppose it’s a bit strange playing through the series backwards, but needs must.
BioWare also took the opportunity to announce N7 day, which will take place on 7th November (it makes more sense if you type your dates North American style, we suppose). The event will prompt a “worldwide celebration of the Mass Effect franchise”. The studio’s not joking, either – a variety of in-game, online and live events are planned to mark the occasion. Er...
Still, Mass Effect on PS3, huh? If it was 2007, this would have been huge news.

Best news ever!!! I have been dying to play this game but don't have a 360 or a PC good enough.
@Splat To be honest, I'm surprised they're taking the effort to port this. Why didn't they do it when ME2 came out? Contractual obligations with MS, perhaps? It has been five years now...
Me too! I still haven't finished 2, believe it or not. I just couldn't get into the story revolving around recruiting, but I think the first would really help me get into it.
@get2sammyb - To be honest I thought it was a pipe dream, but I'm a Mass Effect fan boy so I could not be happier lol. I mean sooner would have been better, but I will take what I can get.
WHAT! This seems insane after all this time. Didn't ever see this coming...
I'll actually be able to play the series, and fully through!!
I'm not even sure how this is possible. Microsoft really gave up the rights to allow this to happen? Really?
For those of you who haven't played the original Mass Effect, I implore you to do so. It's a dang good game!
One of the biggest reasons I didn't want ME2 when it came to PS3 was the lack of ME1. With that problem solved, I may give this series another look.
I wonder what the standalone game will cost? I'm assuming $20 since that is what Mass Effect 2 is going for on PSN. IGN is saying the whole set will be $60.
Here is a pic of the set.

The original Mass Effect was a big reason I bought the 360. To those of you who haven't gotten a chance to experience this game yet, you're in for a treat, the game has its flaws but it's still the best in the series.
Perhaps too little too late for me. Loved ME2, enjoyed ME3. Not sure sure I will bother. It would need to be cheap.
Are they going to allow you to port your save from ME, into ME2 and then replay the whole series?
I would assume that 5 year old graphics would need to be cleaned up too. The industry has come a long way.
"Are they going to allow you to port your save from ME, into ME2 and then replay the whole series?"
I will be very disappointed if not. That said I'm getting it regardless. I just read on their website that the standalone digital game will only cost $15...
Yessss! About time PS3 gets the entire trilogy. I seriously can't wait to finally play this.
