Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has taken a break from photographing his lunch, opting to snap a quick shot of his desktop computer instead. While that would be a pretty uneventful occurrence under ordinary circumstances, the Kojima Productions man doesn’t do things by half. As such, it’s no surprise that the image includes a sneaky reference to The Phantom Pain.
Take a quick glance at the filename of the project that the luminary’s working on, and you’ll spot the letters ‘TPP_GDC2013_720p_ESRB’. Clearly the first three letters stand for The Phantom Pain. The supposed Metal Gear Solid V ruse has been widely linked to Kojima ever since it first debuted during the VGAs last year. It’s now believed that fake developer Joakim Mogren – who appeared in an interview with Geoff Keighley last week – was actually rendered using the FOX Engine.
Kojima is set to make an appearance at GDC next week, where we’ll hopefully get a proper look at The Phantom Pain trailer pictured in the image above. While we’ve enjoyed the build up to this announcement, we must admit that we’re getting a bit tired of all of the teasing now. It’s time to make things official.

He did that on purpose... the little tease.
This whole thing is hilarious, Kojima is a true showman. Though I'm still very skeptical that mogren was computer animated. It seems possible, but the detail of his mouth and eyes were lifelike beyond anything that's ever been made before.
Bravo Kojima, Bravo. This guy certainly knows how to put on a show.
@hamispink These past teasers certainly look like they were done live, but if they were done with the FOX Engine then color me impressed.
I much prefer tongue-in-cheek theatrics to the painfully boring releases of most games recently. He's making this release as memorable as all the other MGS games. It really does look live action, tho, I agree... talk about a system seller
I watched the video on Gametrailers again carefully and there's no way that guy is cgi or whatever. He's just an actor or employee of Konami. I'll be very surprised if I'm wrong. Fun stuff, though!
You have become a lil too obsessed with video games if you think Joakim was computer animated. I think it's cool that Kojima San wraps his game reveals up in a world of espionage like his games. But I don't care about this one personally. Not even factorin in how watchin a room full of people shot at close range goes WELL beyond the range of things humans should ever expose their psyche too, I'm just not feelin this game. Limpin around on a gimpy leg the whole time takes it out of the realm of game and into the world of Sims
The whale was the coolest part and that's prolly not even in the actual game
Whenever an Apple-head starts criticizing me again for working on a Windows PC with Adobe products I'll show them this pic. If it's good enough for Kojima it's good enough for me.
