The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has taken a break from photographing his lunch, opting to snap a quick shot of his desktop computer instead. While that would be a pretty uneventful occurrence under ordinary circumstances, the Kojima Productions man doesn’t do things by half. As such, it’s no surprise that the image includes a sneaky reference to The Phantom Pain.

Take a quick glance at the filename of the project that the luminary’s working on, and you’ll spot the letters ‘TPP_GDC2013_720p_ESRB’. Clearly the first three letters stand for The Phantom Pain. The supposed Metal Gear Solid V ruse has been widely linked to Kojima ever since it first debuted during the VGAs last year. It’s now believed that fake developer Joakim Mogren – who appeared in an interview with Geoff Keighley last week – was actually rendered using the FOX Engine.

Kojima is set to make an appearance at GDC next week, where we’ll hopefully get a proper look at The Phantom Pain trailer pictured in the image above. While we’ve enjoyed the build up to this announcement, we must admit that we’re getting a bit tired of all of the teasing now. It’s time to make things official.
