While owner Electronic Arts has made no attempt to resurrect the Road Rash franchise over the past few years, DarkSea Games has put together a Kickstarter to create a new title in the former favourite’s image – and it could come to the PlayStation 4 if enough people register an interest in the project.
If funded, the title – dubbed Road Redemption – will release on the PC, Mac, and Linux first. However, the studio mentions that it “would definitely like to port to the PS4” if it can raise enough capital. The developer’s currently asking for an investment of $160,000, which it’s well on the way towards achieving at the time of writing.
As for the game itself, it will feature a loose narrative about an ex-jailbird rising through the ranks of a notorious biker gang. The combat will be based on counters and parries, with various weapons such as sledgehammers, submachine guns, and assault rifles on offer. “A stronger weapon is always an advantage, but even a weaker combatant can get the upper hand by forcing his opponent off the road, or into oncoming traffic,” the developer explained.
You can feast your eyes on some footage of the title over on the project’s Kickstarter page. It looks extremely early, but there’s the nugget of a good idea there. As massive fans of the car combat genre, we’ve been craving a new Road Rash for years, so this looks like it could be the next best thing.
Currently, a $15 pledge will get you a DRM-free copy of the game for your computer-based platform of choice. More costly tiers include branded clothing and beta access.
