A sprightly Lara Croft is about to have the stuffing kicked out of her feeble frame yet again, as Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is almost definitely coming to the PlayStation 4. Responding to rumours that washed up earlier in the week, Square Enix has hinted that the re-release will be announced during next month’s VGX Awards.
“It’s so hard to keep a secret these days,” a spokesperson for the publisher sighed. “We appreciate all of the enthusiasm, however we don't have any details to share just yet. That said, we highly recommend that you keep an eye on any major gaming events happening in early December.” The company may as well have just erected a neon ‘Tomb Raider is coming to PS4’ hoarding on Blackpool Tower.
Despite delusional estimates from publisher Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics’ reboot was a critical and commercial smash hit on the PlayStation 3. As such, we’re sure one or two of you will be tempted to revisit the title on Sony’s next generation machine. Poor Lara, meanwhile, is not necessarily looking forward to experiencing the holiday from Hell in a higher resolution.

Passed me by for PS3, I wouldn't mind picking it up.
@KALofKRYPTON I have a different dilemma. I bought this at launch. Have been desperate to play it all year. Was finally going to get around to it at Christmas... But now...?! I think I'll probably still play it on PS3 - can't wait.
I still have my PS3 copy sitting on my shelf. My friend sent me it but I had never really gotten around to playing it.
If it comes out relatively soon, I'd definitely grab it for PS4 as there's not a ton to look forward to until 2014.
@get2sammyb perhaps square will join in with the upgrade offers...
@get2sammyb I started playing this last night to fill a gap until PS4. Do it! Play it!
You guys that have this game laying around and not playing it are missing out...
It's an AMAZING GAME! I LOOVE the voice acting, so very believable! I wouldn't mind getting this again for a next gen system. I think i've heard it's also coming to Xbox One.
I have to agree with Splat, you guys are missing out, With that said I will be picking it up on PS4 since I never had a copy of my own and it is a great game indeed. Definitely one of my picks for GOTY.
Played tomb raider last revelation on Dreamcast. It was rubbish and put me off for life. It will take something very special to get my attention
@RyoHazuki: I suggest giving this Tomb Raider a chance. Its not like the previous installments especially Last Revelation. I hated the original Tomb Raider games but this one is one of my favorite games this year.
@RyoHazuki I had that game on Dreamcast as well. I was about halfway in and started to fall into a fire pit. Out of panic, I saved my game hoping I'd be able to avoid it... but I could not. Load game, fall in fire, repeat. Sadness.
Haven't touched Tomb Raider since.
Wouldn't bother buying it again, having played it on PS3. All I could think was "lifted from Uncharted; lifted from Uncharted 2; lifted from Uncharted 3" and so on.
Yes, yes... I know Tomb Raider was here first, and I know Uncharted borrowed lots of ideas from it. I also was a fan of Lara Croft long before Nathan Drake was even a glint in Naughty Dog's eye; I even said before the first Uncharted that the game would have to do a lot if it was to surpass Tomb Raider in my eyes.
But it did. It borrowed ideas from Tomb Raider and took everything to the next level.
But when playing the latest Tomb Raider game, it felt to me as if whole sections had been lifted directly from the various Uncharted's. That's not to say it was a bad game - it wasn't - but I just felt like I'd seen it all before.
Well, it's one of my favorite games of the year. I bought it at launch and couldn't stop playing it until I got to the end of the story. I want to revisit it, but I'd rather do it on my PS3.
Tomb Raider 2013 would look amazing on PS4
@Tasuki yeah the latest ps3 release looked pretty alright. Wasn't tempted enough to fork out for it though with ps4 coming up. If its as good on ps4, I'll prob give it a go
@nathanuc1988 yeah, at the time I thought the franchise was so well known and did so well so far it would be almost impossible to make a poor game, it was awful. I lasted about an hour, I tried getting back into it but nope it was just awful.
I'll be buying this for my PlayStation 3 sometime. There are maaaaaany PlayStation 3 titles I've never even touched; operation catch-up begun with Skyrim this past weekend.
