DriveClub’s launch has hardly been vintage, but at this point we’re rooting for developer Evolution Studios to resolve the issues – primarily because we’ve been playing the game offline, and reckon that it’s a lot better than some of the early reviews would lead you to believe. Fortunately, the title has been slowly improving, with more people able to get online over the course of the past 48 hours or so. Of course, it’s still far from ideal.
Thankfully, a new patch – dubbed v1.03 for those keeping count – promises to enhance things further, by implementing “several game-side fixes to reduce server load”. According to game director Paul Rustchynsky, this will help the firm to resolve the online issues that have plagued the title since Tuesday – and, ultimately, will help it to deploy that long overdue PlayStation Plus version that everybody’s been waiting for.
The update also tweaks a handful of other things, like crashing and club corruption errors. So, the game’s still not out of trouble yet, but it does appear to be moving in the right direction at last. That’s good news if, like us, you’re looking forward to actually playing this properly at some point.

I'm really liking Drive Club, it's not as bad as people say it is. Really loving the races, i do get really bored of real race tracks, so this is definitely refreshing.
I played a couple of matches online and when it does work, its awesome. Especially when people properly race cleanly, instead of trying to spin you out and get ahead in any dirty way possible.
@Clamedeus I'm glad I'm not the only one. Played a chunk of career, but have had to force myself to stop playing as I want to enjoy the 'full package' with the online enabled. Obviously, the server issues are unfortunate — and perhaps unacceptable at this point — but, like you say, the game is way better than it's been branded in my opinion.
Patch hasn't done a bloody thing for my connection.
I'm not really into racing games much, but I really do wish that this game supported logitech wheels as this is a racing game. I would probably play racing games more if I could get an awesome wheel for it.
I am not big into racing games either, but I was intetested in DriveClub because I felt the whole sim-racer genre has grown stale, so I was hoping this would be good & something different.
Hopefully, they will get the servers figured out so people can play the game properly.
The patch is erasing peoples save data lol
I think it's all money making!! They still haven't released the PSN "free" yet, makes me wonder if they did that just so people would buy the game rather than wait to play for free!!
I would love to play it but it won't let me connect to the servers.
@Midzark so they're destroying any trust they had built-up with consumers by deliberately f***ing up their own servers in an attempt to get people to outright buy it when every game centric site is reporting that the game is broken.......................i don't think so
@Midzark: That's how I feel too. I am wondering if due to the sub par reviews they got they figured that the wont get the sales they thought they would so they are trying to get as much for it now as they can.
Still I wont pay full price for this game I will wait till either it hits the bargain or th PS+ version is out or I find a cheap used copy.
I don't get the hate against this game. When i have a Ps4 i will definitly buy this game.
@Sanquine it's not so much "hate" as it is disappointing!! This game was meant to be out along side the ps4... It never happened, nearly a year later and "free" version STILL isn't available, my faith in this game has dropped big time, Just good "The Crew" is looking Hot Stuff!!!
@get2sammyb Well I grabbed the "pre order" upgrade, so as of yet im still to play.
Im sure itll be 35 quid and 5 years waiting well spent!
Anyone have any idea when the PS+ edition will be release in Australia? It is still not up in the store. I heard it was release in the UK, Is that correct?
@Ginkgo You can get the upgrade, but not the free version.
@get2sammyb Agreed, i can't wait for them to get the issues ironed out, it's going to be a really fun game when every thing runs smooth.
I also can't wait for the Free Car/Track DLC's to come out. I especially can't wait to see what features they add down the road of the titles lifespan.
I bought the physical copy of this yesterday and have no regrets, just what I expected and more in terms of graphics and gameplay.
Once up and running online its definitely going to be great fun, think Evolution have made a perfectly balanced title here and I am glad to have this in the collection.
A really good range of titles so far for the PlayStation, I'm really happy.
2014 and we roll like its 1999. Argh.
The reason I do suspect they are deliberately holding back the psn free version is because they do want us to buy it. They know some people may give in by playing offline by bypassing Psn version and paying now. There is no reason the free version shouldn't have been given on day one if all we could at least just play offline. Practically everyone else is offline now anyway. So what would be difference if the Psn people had to wait to play online also but at least get a taste of the game?
They are banking on the impatient people to play any part of the game no matter what by skipping Psn version. I am patient and will wait to get it free and if they don't give the Psn version a free dlc for all this debacle (like a game site suggested) I will be content playing the Psn demo forever. There are too many driving games coming out to be loyal anymore to evolution or Sony.
Do anyone remember how Psn people were suppose to get this game for free at launch?
@Wesker Sure. But I was promised a free version 11 months ago. Still waiting and rather pissed.
Why would anyone who didn't buy when they thought it would launch fine turn around and by it because its not on PSN free when the server didn't work??? The logic behind that is crazy. It more like, many are NOT BUYING it until its up and running fine.
@JohnKarnes I wish I am wrong. Why did Sony not let tell Psn Membees have a beta to test out online a week before release? It makes no sense for one of the anticipated exclusives to come out a year later from delay to not be over prepared. I look forward to playing the trial version but will not buy the game unless I am blown away. Yes,a few months down the line the game maybe smooth online and with the weather added,I maybe tempted to get the full version. If I am correct Psn+ get the weather and picture mode. So with all the holiday games coming out I probably still want be convinced to buy drive club unless there is Major praise on gaming sites and forums from those who have full version.
Evolution and Sony screwed themselves and slot of people will buy this game once in price drops IMOgen.
I got my hands on a copy of the game four days prior to release. Servers were up and running well. Managed to experience the online features and even played dune online races. It's good fun. Hopefully they up their game soon
@Clamedeus I like it too but haven't played lately, I can't log in and don't get any club points at all then. Once the online is working better, I will be playing alot more
@Ewflex They did give it to reviewers a week early. Sometimes in a game launch you cant win! If they game it free to Plus Members a week early The people that Paid for the game would be upset posting hate. If the gave it to both wouldn't that just be a week early launch? Drive club has a free version that opens it to millions on day one. There is a lot more than just game play the servers will handle with the social features.
Many games take a week or more to smooth out server starts. next month no one will be talking about or it anymore. Its not just PS4 even PC game have the same issues. Blizzard one of the best game makers had lots fo trouble with Warcraft at launch. I felt the same way OMG a year and its still broke! I had to beat into my head " multiplayer-servers-crap happens" I will be happy and just playing the game soon as its fixed!
The gameplay in Driveclub is very good, it's a nice refreshing change to GT and Forza and is more accessible to casual race fans as it's not a sim. Also as mentioned already the tracks make a nice change from racing the same real world tracks we have been doing for years. And I don't understand all the fuss about the online side of things look how bad GTAV was for months with all the connectivity problems and hacking but yet everyone still loves GTA. If they had never mentioned a free version I don't think there would be half as much negativity around this title.
